This is an Adoptive Parent/Child connection and storyline.
The Scenario:
You are a youth who through whatever unfortunate circumstance, winds up at the Ranch in need of care. It is provided and through time and some teenage angst and drama, your character becomes a ward of the Ranch owner and eventual adopted child.
Urban fantasy type creatures are allowed and encouraged! (i.e. werewolf, half breed magical beings, witches, shapeshifters etc...) Eventually the idea is the Ranch becomes a haven for orphaned or displaced troubled children of different types. There will be some world building together along the way.
Rating is G to PG-13 with nothing explicit obviously as child characters are involved.

Magic is fairly common. Players and NPCs important to the tale may have it. Mistborn.
Modern
Combat is expected as part of the storyline but it won't dominate the plot.
