Ember stood was ducked behind the crate near one of the food stands in a local food market in Belgium. She had her eyes set on one of the french breads sticking out of a basket. Her ears were covered by her favorite beanie cap covering her ears nad baggy pants hiding her tail. The streets were destroyed due to the misiles that had fallen not long ago. Food was hard to come by and Ember had no money. Once she knew that no one was looking, she went for the bread. Just before she reached it, a knife flew past her head, hitting one of the wodden pillers near her. Her eyes widened in suprise and she backed up."Just what do you thing you're doing?" The man who owened the stand spat at her, then called for his son. His son was a very buff man, his muscle could be seen through the line of his shirt. Ember gulped, but stood her ground. The man took the first move, swinging his hand back for a punch. Ember easily dogged, her fist sucessfuly connecting with his jaw.
Liam saw the fight that was about to being. The girl dodged the first move but the second one was heading straight for her head. He quickly ran oer there and took the blow. It really didn't have much effect on him, seeing as it ended up at the center of his chest. He wasn't very buff, but he was strong for someone in his mid-teens. He glared up at the man, clearly annoyed. "What is wrong with you?! Attacking a young girl for what? Trying to get something to eat like the rest of us?! What the hell is wrong with you?!?!" He yelled at the man.
Ember stood there in shock, then she felt annoyed with the fact that he took the hit. "Excuse me? You think I cant take a hit for myself? You think I'm too weak?" She hissed, her eyes blazing with anger. "Just because I'm a damn girl, I CAN fight without help."
Liam looked behind him at the girl and shook his head. Oh, how he hated to explain things. "No, it is not like that at all! I was just trying to....uh....help...." He knew this wasn't going to help at all. He could never explain himself to anyone he didn't really know, and right now, he barely knew he was. He knew his beliefs but who his family was and what they did and if they were alive or not was all a mystery to Liam. "I swear that was not to case. I am not sexist like that, I don't believe that at all, miss." He tried to explain in a rush.
Ember narrowed her eyes, sticking her bottom lip out in a pout. "Miss? Help? Okay, 1. dont call me miss, it makes me sound like an old lady, and 2. You dont think I can handle myself, that I'm just some fragile girl that cant hit worth a damn? Huh?" Her eyes were like fire now as she adjusted her beanie.
Liam gulped and shook his head. "Please listen. I'm not like that, I promise. I'm sorry if it makes you feel old if I call you miss, but that is just how I was told to talk to women that I do not know. I'm sure you can handle a fight fine, but....how to put this.....I just can't stand to watch men try beating up a woman for something so simple as this during these times."
"So you didnt even think to let me take my own fight? You just had to step in? What if it was a guy, hih, would you step in?" At this point, her eyes were now daggers.
Liam was getting annoyed with this girl. "I was just trying to help you. A beautiful girl like you shouldn't have to have your beauty tranished by these men. I'm sorry if I just wanted to help when you rather just agrue over about all of this." He let out a sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose. He began to relax again, trying to see this all through this young girl's point of view.
Ember was sbout to say something back, when she stopped. One word stuck on her mind. "B-beautiful." She studdered, for once at a loss for words. The fire in here eyes disappered and was replaced with shock. She didnt even notice that her beanie was comming off, reviling a bit of her golden ears. It was only when she felt a slight breeze on them that she pulled it over her head and her eyes, trying to hide her face. "You... dont really mean that."She mummbled.
Liam was surprised by her shock at that. "Of course I do." He gently placed tilted her chin up to get her attention. "Why would I say it if I didn't mean it?" He gave her a kind and gentle smile.
Ember had pulled her hat up a but ot she his face inches from hers, and she felt him grab her chin. It only made her blush farther adn full her had even farther over her face. "Y-yeah, thanks. I'm Ember, by the way." She said, despritly trying to change the subject.
He let go of her chin and straighten his back. "Pleasure to meet you, Ember. I am Liam." He held out his hand to her with a gentle smile.
Ember removed her hat from her eyes and stared at his hand before taking it. "Nice to meet you." She mummbled, not meeting his eyes.
He titled his head slightly, confused as to why she wouldn't look him in the eyes. "Is something the matter, Ember?"
"I-its nothing. So, um, thanks for the save back there, and sorry for yelling at you. Its just that... I get pissed when people say thing like, I'm too weak to fight, or shes just a girl, and all that crap."
Liam nodded. "It's nothing and I understand. I was not trying to do that, it just really aggrevated me to see men beating women, whether they can stand their own or not. It really isn't right, in my mind anyways. I don't think you're weak at all, you seem like a very strong and confident woman to me."
"Thanks." She scratched the back of her head and sighed. "So, where you headed to?"
Liam suddenly stiffen and panic rose in him. He rubbed the back of his head nevrously. "Yeah, about that... I kind of lost my memory, so I really have not a clue about who I am." He admited with a sheepish smile.
Ember gave him a suprised look and bit her lip. "Umm... If you like... You can stay with me."
Liam shook his head. "No, it is fine. I'm sure I can find a place to stay." He gave her a reassuring smile.
