Last night I took my usual sleeping pill, but hadn't had the full dose in a while. Geez...the things I did in the middle of the night half asleep! I apparently wrote some odd stories, started an account on something called Kindle KDP (I think it's called), and somehow lost my social security card. Someone found it though, thankfully--on the floor.
I mean, I had been wanting to open an account on Kindle KDP, but doing things half-asleep is dangerous territory. Could have lost my social security card and had to go through the hassle of getting another one.
Also, I heard a guy on the radio talking about sleep and he said there's a stage of NON-REM sleep that we call "deep sleep," which we associate with feeling refreshed. I always thought it was the REM sleep that did that.
He said sleep is no longer considered binary (REM vs non-REM), but that sleep is more complex than scientists originally thought (of course, right?).
He said sleepwalkers and things might be in a state where part of their brains are awake and other parts are asleep, and it be a throwback that we see now in animals like whales and some birds (which can sleep with half their brains at a time, so that they can keep surfacing for air or flying as they sleep). Yep yep, that sounds like me last night! *hard, hard facepalm*
Any similar sleeping stories?

IM AWFUL TO SHARE A BED WITH. I literally will turn so my head is where my feet are supposed to be. I have been told that I’ve scratched people, stolen their pillows out from under them. I also lay diagonally so... I’m not fun to sleep with.
When I was 8 I slept walked right out the front door, with only pants on (though not a huge deal given I was only 8 years old) and across the street and started knocking on the neighbors door and telling them my parents were not home.
The freakiest part? I remember all of it. I could hear and see everything, process what I was doing, but could not control my body or what I was saying.
I have another one about when I took Ativan for the first time (anxiety med) but it's a bit darker themed so if you wanna know PM me cause I don't wanna talk about it on here cause the details are a bit too intense on that.

So the body is supposed to paralyze when sleeping to avoid acting things out, and sometimes that happens when the brain isn't quite asleep yet and is still processing sensory information from the real world, and is in a highly suggestive state that's prone to wild hallucinations because the brain is partly asleep. This is where a lot of old nightmare concepts of awaking to a demon sitting on your chest comes from. It's supposed to be a terrifying experience.
I recall somehow hitting that state once, but... it was pretty chill. Just looking up at my ceiling, having a relaxed conversation with a disembodied voice... I even told it that it wasn't real, but that's as much as I can recall of the conversation.
I also breathe shallow enough, I guess, that people will think I've stopped breathing. (Already got tested for sleep apnea. No worries.)
And then a friend of mine, back when we shared a tiny little studio, I got to hear him say some pretty funny stuff in his sleep, with a super adorable voice. The only one I can recall is, "Weeeeeee... Weeeeeee... I'm on two bears now. Weeeeee..."
And I guess when we were kids, my older brother once got up, went downstairs to the kitchen/dining area of the house we lived in at the time, ignored our parents asking him why he was up as he poured himself a glass of milk, sat dowm, drank a bit, then went back to bed with never a word. Had no memory of t the next day.

Thanks to all who posted! I enjoyed reading all these sleep stories.
Nnnnh my mom has too many videos of me in my sleep.
1: I once woke up sitting next to the washing machine. No idea why.
2: I kicked my bunk bed ladder so hard one night that I tore all of the ligaments in my foot and couldn't walk without crutches for 6 weeks. My foot didn't heal properly and is still tender and sensitive.
3: my mom got a video of me searching for something in my bed after I threw my glasses at her. Apparently I was searching for "The A". Whatever that is.

I feel like I may be too tired to say something here, but I am anyway.
I often wake up with no clothes on anymore.
Sometimes I get up and stare at something randomly in my room for like,10minutes before falling asleep again.
I will crawl across my room in my sleep to retrieve something I thought I needed (usually in a dream).
I've texted and called friends in my sleep and held nonsensical conversations (I also sleeptalk/yell).
I used to sleepwalk into walls or let myself out of the house.
My brother once upon a time would sleepwalk into the kitchen and try to pee in the garbage.
... you're welcome.

Oh. I've been reminded. I have apparently sang in my sleep on multiple occasions. Was even complimented on it, so I guess it wasn't too bad for being asleep.

What song did you sing?
My son sleep walks, not as much as he used to. The most memorable was when he came down stairs because his bed was "in the lake and everything was ruined and soaked". Sleepwalking seems to run in my ex's family.
His sister is superbad for sleep activity. She walks, and fights (verbally and physically). Then when she was trying to diet she would get up and sleep-eat she figured this out after waking up to a bunch of wrappers and a half eaten block of cheese beside her.

Ah ok. I figured something like that but it would be funny if you were singing the macarana or something random like that, so had to ask.
