So I'm trying to turn my current character into a dnd character because I'm a big nerd, but I don't know how to go about it.
5th Edition is the most current and here is their SRD, which is pretty helpful. :)

5th Edition SRD

Does your character concept fit (at least "close enough") to one of these classes? :
  • Barbarian
  • Bard
  • Cleric
  • Druid
  • Fighter
  • Monk
  • Paladin
  • Ranger
  • Rogue
  • Sorcerer
  • Warlock
  • Wizard

I picked bard because the character has a background for a dancer.
Cool. :)

To start, you'll want to generate Ability Scores for each of these:
  • Strength, measuring physical power
  • Dexterity, measuring agility
  • Constitution, measuring endurance
  • Intelligence, measuring reasoning and memory
  • Wisdom, measuring perception and insight
  • Charisma, measuring force of personality

Each one will get a starting number from 3 to 18.

There's many ways to create these scores (usually would be dictated by the game master which method to use). Some of the more common approaches:
  • Roll 3d6 (Repeat 6 times, then re-arrange the values amongst the 6 Ability Scores.)
  • Roll 4d6, drop the lowest die value. (This site will do it for you! https://gc3.github.io/taters/dnd5e/ability_score_roller.html)
  • Assign what 'seems right' for the character. A score of 10-11 is considered human avg.
  • Divvy up some pre-determined number of points amongst the 6 scores. (That linked site will do that for you too!)

So for my human bard, I have:

Strength-9

Dexterity- 15

Constitution- 14

Intelligence- 13

Wisdom- 11

Charisma: 16

Is that good?
Yep! Then check out the details on the bard class: https://5thsrd.org/character/classes/bard/

And the human race: https://5thsrd.org/character/races/human/

I've never played a bard, so don't know all the ins and outs to it, but picking out spells is always fun! :)

This is what ended doing with her, so is it accurate to what a dnd character sheet would look like?
Gettin' close! :) The other important thing you'd need would be how many Hit Points she has (unless it's on there somewhere... maybe I overlooked it)

Hit Points at 1st Level: 8 + your Constitution modifier

Since her Constitution is 14, that translates to a +2 modifier. So she'd have 10 Hit Points.

Okay thanks for telling me, I'll add that in right now.

For anything else... ask Juls.
Legit saving this thread for personal reference 😂😂

Awesome topic thanks Juls, Tusitala2017, and any future contributors to this! This is turning out to be a great educational thread for transferring a character from freeform to strict mechanics & dice roll kind of rp :D

I don't know if I'd go that far. I haven't played anything 5th edition much past 1st level. I only know the basics. XD
