It’s a rainy winter day in your home town. Maybe you’re a waiter, an artist, or maybe you’re just a teen. Whoever you are, life feels slower than you expected it would be. Is this really all there is? You watch as people walk past your window, talking to one another. But you were never that much of an extrovert, were you? Still, you couldn’t just lay around all day. Well, you could, but even that had gotten boring by now. You watch as the sun descends over the horizon. Maybe if you go out in the dark, you won’t run into anyone. That’s probably a good idea.
You head to the kitchen to make yourself some dinner first, only to find your fridge empty. Ah well, all the more reason to go outside, right? You recall a 24/7 shop being round the block, from the last time you headed out. How long ago was that? One week ago? Probably longer. Anyway, you put on your jacket and head outside. The cicadas are particularly loud tonight, so much so that you have to cover your ears. In a couple minutes, you reach the shop.. only to find it closed. The 24/7 shop. CLOSED. You’re too irritated to question it, and wander off.
You need to find a shop so you can eat, but it’s dark, so very dark. So dark, infact, that before long you find yourself lost in the woods. Strange, you don’t remember a wood being nearby... you turn around to go back, but the path is gone. The cicadas are getting louder, and you can hear them through your hands now. The rain is pelting your back like rocks, you can’t see anything, and the cicadas are deafening now. You close your eyes, wishing for it all to stop. “Let me wake up!” You cry, but you can’t hear your own voice. You can’t feel your legs anymore. “I want to wake up, I want it to go away! Please!” You beg, as if anyone could hear you. Nobody would ever hear you out here... or could they?
“Don’t be so childish. If it was a dream, your mind wouldn’t instantly guess it the second anything mildly bad happened to you, would it?” A raspy, nightmarish voice said from behind you, somehow audible over the cicadas. Panting and out of breath on the grassy floor, you realise you can hear them because the cicadas had stopped. The rain had too. There was a warm fire in front of you, not spreading across the grass at all. You get up and turn around, dumbfounded as to what just happened. Standing in front of you was a 9 Foot tall, semi-humanoid hulk of charred flesh and black ash. “I’ve been waiting.” You fall back in shock, mouth open to scream, but nothing comes out. Somehow, a warm smile cracked across this abomination’s face, warm in both the friendly way and the fact that it was made of red flames. A comfortable bed cushions your fall as you try to focus on your breathing. “Fair reaction. I’m guessing I’ll be doing the talking?”
You can’t bring yourself to say a word. Of course you can’t say anything, you’re too afraid to even blink. He continues. “The name’s Nyyth. I’ve come to offer you a deal. You probably have some preconceptions about the whole ‘Dealing with the devil’ thing, but you’re hearing me out wether you like it or not. Well, I’m getting ahead of myself, aren’t I? You came out here looking for food, right?” Nyyth snapped his fingers once, and a tray of your favourite dish appeared on your lap. “No strings attached. Promise.” You suddenly remember how hungry you are. You look between the food and the demon towering above you. Well, you were going to starve soon, so you just had to trust him. Besides, the scent of the food was just too enticing.
As you eat, Nyyth continues. “Your life is so boring, isn’t it? Wouldn’t you like to.. spice it up a little?” His smile turned a bit more sinister. “For the sake of tradition, I can give you 666 wishes. Whatever you want! Well, almost whatever you want. I have my limits, too. You obviously don’t need to use them all in one go, I’ll just follow you around, invisible to everyone else. Make up a code word if you need to make a wish without drawing suspicion. Just one thing... as soon as you use em all up, I get your soul, for the rest of time itself!” He let out a echoing laugh. “Anyway, Waddaya say, kid?” A blackish purple flame appeared in his palm, as his red grin spreaded across his entire face. “Wanna be pals?”

Some magic. Few can use it, but most of the players probably won't have it. Magical characters will likely believe that they are all alone.
Modern
Combat is expected as part of the storyline but it won't dominate the plot.
