Faye shook her head, walking next to him. "No, not today. I was going to the beach, near my house." She smiled halfheartedly. Her parents had very subtly forbid her to go to his house, but she could still be his friend, at least. "And math was great, it seems much easier now. Thanks."
Max nodded slightly. "That's good. And the beach sounds fun, seems like you'll have a good time." He walked her to her class and put her books on her desk. "...Can I talk to you after school, Faye?" He looked at her very solemnly, even though she couldn't see him. She'd only have time to give an answer before the teacher would come in and shoo Max off to his own class.
Faye sat down and tensed when he asked her that. Maybe he didn't them to be friends anymore, or... or something worse. She was being way to negative, so she nodded and smiled again. "Sure, I'll be at my locker."
Max nodded, though she couldn't see. "Alright. Have a good class, Faye." And then he left. Her negative suspicions were pretty close, though. He had to find out what her parents thought of him, and whether they wanted them together or not. And he could only do that one way. So he skipped the rest of the school day, instead driving to her house to talk to her parents. He only had a bit of time, because he had to meet her after school. But hopefully it would be enough to find out whether he could be with Amy or not. He knocked on the door, taking in a deep breath.
Faye's mom opened the door, wearing an apron with a smiley face on it. She seemed really surprised to see him there. "Max? What are you doing here, kid?" She frowned, knowing it had to do with Faye. The poor girl was having troubles concentrating again because of the intrigue she had been left with.
Max cleared his throat slightly. "Sorry to interrupt, ma'am. But I need to talk to you and your husband." He looked at her, very calm, but very serious. "I need to know your feelings on my being around your daughter. After I've told you the truth." Yes. He had to do it. It was just guaranteeing an end to his relationship with Faye, but he had to make sure they knew before making any decision about their daughter.
She opened the door wider to allow him in, sighing heavily. "I told her you two could still talk and hang out... I just... Sev? Could you come here?" She called and then gestured to the living room. "Take a seat." Faye's dad came down.
(Going to bed, I'll respond to the next post tomorrow! )
Max came in and sat down. He looked at Faye's parents very seriously. "Sir...ma'am, I just thought...with the situation as it is, and my presence around your daughter, that I should tell you what I am." He paused, took in a deep breath, then continued. "I am a vampire. Half of one, really. The official term is dhampir, but that's still loosely used given my unique situation. Still, there is no denying the vampire blood in me. What you witnessed last night was the result of a Mongrel attacking me with silver-covered claws. I didn't realize the claws were covered in silver until the effects started to take place." He looked at them carefully. "Now that you know what I am, I must tell you something. I have every intention of dating your daughter. However...if that is against your wishes, tell me now, and I'll remove myself from her life as much as possible. I just advise you to keep in mind the affect that might have on your daughter."

Faye's parents looked at each other, frowning. They were both thinking about the consequences of Faye being around him. "Complicated..." Sev muttered. His wife smacked his arm. "First, we both appreciate you came here to talk to us. I... we know how it feels to be different from the rest, and I just wanted more for her, but..." She was thinking about her father freaking out when she'd told him she would get married. Smiling, she looked at Faye's father. "Sounds familiar?" He sighed, leaning forward. "I can't believe you are okay with it." She looked at Max again. "I know she won't be safe. She's never safe. But do your best." Faye's father nodded. "You have our permission. Rememember: I have a very fine collection of knifes." Both of them laughed. Same thing Faye's grand father had said once.
Max was rather...astonished, that they weren't going to kick him out and forbid him to see her. He gave a serious nod. "Sir, if I ever got Faye hurt, you wouldn't need to worry. I'd sooner go through that silver poisoning than let something happen to her." He stood up, checking the clock quickly. "Well...since we've come to a conclusion, I have to get going. I promised your daughter I'd meet her after school. Sir, ma'am, don't worry. I'll protect her." With his life. He bid them goodbye, then went back to his car. He got to the school just before the bell rang, and went to Faye's locker to wait for her.
Her parents were okay with it as long as he kept his word. Back at schook, Faye rose from her seat the second the bell rang, something she never did to avoid having to suddenly encounter someone in her way and fall down. She was so distracted that forgot to be careful at the stairs, and would've gotten a pretty serious head injury if someone hadn't stopped her before it happened. It still hurt though, because the stairs were really crowded. Finally, she got to her locker, staying close to the walls and walking slowly. She leaned against it, and sighed, not realizing Max was already there.
Max smiled a bit. He reached over and wrapped her in his arms, knowing his cooler skin would tell her right away it was him. "Hey. How was class?" He just held her, there in his arms, in front of the whole school. "I've got some news." He kissed her head gently. "Your parents gave me the green light to date you. So what do you say, Faye? Want to be my girlfriend?"
A blushing Faye, recognized him and his voice right away. She slid her arms around him in return. In that moment she couldn't have cared less about what the others might tell their friends. Then she froze, beyond happy, but shocked and overwhelmed. "You talked with my parents? When? How -?" She couldn't believe what he'd just said. The night before it had seemed as if he'd been mad at her... "I thought you were going to say we wouldn't be friends anymore because of yersterday." She relaxed because it didn't matter anymore, and smiled, letting out a relieved sigh. "And yes, of course I want to be your girlfriend."
Max held her gently. "Well, honestly it all depended on your parents. If they did not want you and I to see each other, then I would have told you that we needed to stop being around each other. But since they approved, well..." He smiled. "Things are better now." He chuckled softly. "I'm a bit old-fashioned, I guess, wanting to make sure your parents are okay with me dating you. But it really is for the best." He closed his eyes and sighed contently. "So...let me know when you can come over next, alright? You've got beach plans today, didn't you say? So, later." He was patient. Besides, he had some security to fix up at his house to make sure that nothing else happened there.
Faye frowned a bit, trying to imagine how that conversation had gone, and a little upset she wasn't able to see him as he talked. She just hoped her parents hadn't said something that would embarrass her. She could understand the old-fashioned part, he was a vampire and it made sense. "Sure, I'll tell you. Though, the beach is more about the stars than the beach itself actually." She smiled and let go of him trying to remember where was right and left again.
Max helped orient her. "This is the left." he said, moving her hand in the direction. "Where are you going next? I can walk you there." He smiled at her, kissing her head gently. "You'll love the stars, Faye. It's supposed to be a beautiful night out tonight." He glanced around a moment, then just waited to hear if she needed his help.
Now that she wasn't so lost, she could find the way to the parking lot. "Outside. Amy is going to drop me at the beach." Her cheeks were still a bright pink that didn't seem to want to fade. "It was her idea. We were going go together but she has family dinner tonight so it's just me now."
Max froze. "Wait, what? You're going to the beach alone?? Absolutely not. I'll come with." He was not going to let her be out alone by herself on the beach...that was just beginning for trouble, and not even the supernatural kind! "Just call Amy and tell her I'll take you so she doesn't have to make the trip. Do you need to stop at home for anything, or are you just looking at the stars and not swimming?"
"Hardly anyone goes there, really. That's why it's a good place." She touched his arm, and figuring out where his ribs were, she poked him. "It'll be okay. And I'm smart enough to not go diving while I can't see. Are you sure you don't have other things to do today?" Faye hoped not. Now that he'd offered to go with her, it seemed even more appealing.
Max flinched as he was poked in the ribs. He couldn't tell her it tickled, certainly not. "Nothing more important than making sure you're safe, Faye. Besides, I'd rather spend time with you than anything else." He could always fix up his security later. Faye was most important right now.
