"Alright." Faye beamed and took out her phone to let Amy know she didn't need a ride anymore. Speed dial rocked. "Uh huh, promise me you'll call me and tell me everything later. You sound so happy I can imagine you spitting rainbows." Amy said from the other side of the line and Faye looked at Max smiling. "I'll tell you tomorrow. Bye!" She hung up. "Meteor shower waiting for us!"
Max chuckled a bit. "Why did you promise to tell her? She won't leave you alone now." he teased. He went to get her into the car and smiled, driving off to the beach. A meteor shower. It sounded really nice. He'd seen a lot in his day, since he didn't sleep during the night much. But it was a lot better when you were seeing it with someone else.
"I know, I know." She walked with him towards the car and got in, eager to get there. She'd never seen a meteor shower before and had been very curious and excited about it when it had been mentioned in class the week before. That's why she'd asked Amy to go with her. Faye could tell Max felt better that day. He didn't sound mad at all, or like he was injured. "What happened with the scratches? Are they gone?"
Max glanced over at her. "Huh? Oh, yeah. Mostly. They're a bit scarred over. But when I got home, I made sure to drink more blood. So they're still there, but they aren't burning or anything anymore." He sighed slightly. He was still not happy about getting so close to going vamp when he was so close to Faye.
Faye nodded and leaned her head back. The day had started bad, then it had turned worse, and now it was perfect. When they arrived at the beach and the car stopped, she practically jumped out. "Let's go!" It'd been a long time since her feet had last touched sand. Beaches were for the day, and after some time, to avoid being reminded she couldn't enjoy that, her family had just stopped taking her there, even if it was just a few blocks away from her home.
Max laughed a bit. "Slow down, girl!" He caught up to her quickly and took her hand, smiling. "I haven't been to the beach in a while. When is this meteor shower supposed to happen? Do you think you'll be able to stay awake?" Oh, sheesh. He just realized how her parents might feel if they knew he was the one who was taking her on this night-trip. He shook his head slightly. Well, they had given permission for him to date her!
"Nightfall! And it's perfect because that's when I'll be able to see it!" Faye had done all the research the last weekend. She nodded, and it was more like if she was guiding him instead of the other way around. "We still have a lot of time but I just thought it'd be awkward if we went to my house first.." She frowned. "I still can't believe my parents agreed to this." She said lifting their hands. "Just when I thought I had them figured out."
Max listened to her and chuckled a bit. "Well...that's how parents tend to be. They sure threw me for a loop, too. I was positive that I'd be told to leave you alone." He held her hand, smiling a bit and walking along with her. "So what do you want to do until the 'magic time'?"
Faye listened carefully for the sound of waves and stopped walking when she thought they were close enough to the water. "Me, I'm going to make a sand castle." She laughed. "Or at least try to." Taking her shoes off, she plopped down on the sand.
Mwx stared. "What? With your loss of sight? He took in a deep breath and let it out. "Alright, might as well try." He chuckled.
She frowned and nodded, determined to do it. "You can help." Faye felt the sand, deciding it was moist enough and started molding it. It wouldn't be an first-prize one but she wanted to feel lke she could do it. "Do you think I should start learning Braille?" She suddenly asked. "I had never given it much thought, but now... I'm not sure this will go away."
Max listened to her, frowning when he heard her speak about learning braille. "When did this happen, Faye? This curse. And why?" All curses had a reason, generally. He helped her mold the sand, but his attention was more on her, and this curse she had.
She sighed. "It happened when I was two or three. Cupid stopped by once in a while, accordingbto him, it had been him who had made my parentsvwork together." Faye smiled a bit, remembering how her mom had told her everything."Anyways, asked my parents to help him find his bow, that some other god had hidden; but they refused. They had a family and didn't want to risk that. Their days of quests were behind." Faye accidentally destroyed one of the little towers she was making with her foot. Well, it wasn't going to work. "Because of that, the guy got mad and when he saw me there... ta da!"
Max crushed one of his own towers in his anger as he heard the story, but then tried to relax for her sake. "That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Gods are so fickle." He scoffed softly. "Curses are tricky, Faye. I mean, you could always try to talk Cupid into un-cursing you, but I doubt that's ever happened before so I wouldn't put your hopes into it now." He sighed. "The way I look at it...go ahead and start learning braille. If the curse wears off or is lifted, then that's great. But if it's not, then at least you're educated and able to deal with it properly." He hated talking like this. He knew it probably wasn't helping her spirits.
"Okay, I will." Faye nodded and gave up, wiping her hands on her jacket to get rid of the sand before taking out a bag of gummi bears from her pocket. "Do you want some?" She held out one and wiggled in front of her, hoping that's where he was because if not, she'd look very funny.
Max looked at her for a few long moments. This girl. She couldn't read, she couldn't build sandcastles, she couldn't even see where people were. It was nearly heart-breaking. He reached over and wrapped her up in his arms, holding her close, but gently. "Sometimes I think you have more strength than I do, Faye."
Faye ate the gummi bear and shook her head. "Why? Because I'm not depressed all the time because of this?" She laid her head on his shoulder, drawing her knees close to her chest. "I used to be, but then I realized I'd go crazy if I continued like that."
Max held her close, sighing softly. "Yeah, well...I guess that's true. It's still amazing though, how strong you are with this." He looked at her and smiled gently. "You're pretty amazing, faye."
She smiled too and even though she normally blushed when she was complimented, she just nodded. "Thanks." Faye wanted to kiss his cheek but maybe it wasn't a very good idea right then. What if she missed and something else happened? She blushed then, because he was her first boyfriend and didn't want to scare him away.
Max just held her like that for a while. Though, he did move around a bit so she would be sitting in his lap and leaning against him while he hugged her. This way, the first thing she would see would be the ocean. They could hear it, though. The gentle, repetitive noise of the waves washing onto the shore. Max was unusually quiet. He always had something to say. But for at least fifteen minutes, he was completely quiet. "Your parents are pretty nice, you know." he said at last.
