Max waited for the typical response one usually had when finding out that they were dating an old man. When she reacted so kindly, however, he smiled. "True..."
Faye looked at him for a long moment, realizing how close their faces were. She was able to see him now. Her gaze fell to his lips and her cheeks got a tint of red. Almost without thinking, her face started to inch closer to his.
Luckily for Faye, Max knew a bit more about this kind of thing. He noticed her gaze on his lips, and leaned in to give her exactly what she wanted. A soft, tender, gentle kiss. She had made it obvious that she'd wanted one, even starting to move towards him, so he didn't feel bad about giving her one.
It was ten times better than what it had been earlier because this one wasn't an accident. The kiss did strange things to her heart and she didn't mind at all. Faye pulled away, rubbed her nose against his softly, and then her cheek was pressed against his shoulder again. She had a big smile on her face.
Max smiled as the kiss ended and he chuckled slightly as their noses touched. He put his arms around her, holding her close and enjoying her head on his shoulder. He couldn't remember the last time he felt so happy. So truly, honestly happy.
Faye didn't say anything about it. She felt that words would probably spoil the moment, and she really didn't want it to end. The sadness that had been present in the morning was completely gone now. There was just calm and happiness. She could've even fallen asleep in his arms if the sound of a car pulling up outside hadn't prevented her from doing so. "Those must be my parents."
Max got up carefully and kissed her head. "Probably. I'll check, just to be sure." He went to the door and peeked out, his body tense in case it was an intruder. He couldn't help his paranoia. After what happened, he wasn't letting anyone lay a hand on Faye.
Indeed, it was Faye's mom, getting out of the car, tired, but looking much better than earlier. Faye got up after him, staying at the bottom of the stairs. "Is it them?" She checked the clock on the wall. It was late. She'd completely lost track of time after returning from walking in the rain.
Max nodded. "Yeah, it is." He looked over at her and sighed. "Guess I better get going." He smiled a little. But with parents back, he should probably leave, give them some family time.
Faye sighed but nodded in agreement and closed the distance between them to give him a hug, and then a shy peck on the lips. "Alright. Thanks for staying with me today, and Amy too, but I'll thank her later." She smiled.
Her mother was just outside but she stayed there for a moment to allow them to say goodbye. She'd had her fair share of awkward moments involving parents and daughters when she was a teenager herself. She trusted Faye and didn't want there to be any awkwardness.

Max returned the light peck and held her close. "Any time, Faye. I'm just a call away, okay? Be careful." He kissed her head, gave her one more hug, and then left. He smiled and said goodbye to her mother, giving his well-wishes before getting into his car and heading home. To an empty house. An empty house with no Faye.
Both her mother and her smiled at his back as he left. Her mom kissed her forehead. "He is a good boy. I'm glad you left the hospital. It was not okay for you to be there. Your dad practically had to drag me out to get some sleep. He's going to stay there tonight." Faye's gaze was fixed on Max's car driving away, but then she looked at her mom. "How's he doing?"
"He'll be with us soon." Her mom replied smiling and then walked into the house. "Do you want to watch a movie?"
And so, that's how the remaining of that evening went for Faye. It was friday and there were slim chances she'd have time to see Max until school on Monday since she'd be going to the hospital again to visit her uncle those days.

Max didn't come by unless she invited him, completely understanding that they would be busy with her uncle. He, in the meantime, kept himself occupied with hunting furies and making sure the nasty creatures, and any like them, stayed far away from his girlfriend and her family.
Monday came and Amy was just coming from the cafeteria before classes begun. She looked very troubled and scanned the halls, hoping to catch a glimpse of Max around. "Where's this guy...?" She tucked a strand of her purple hair behind her ear and kept looking for him. Something was really wrong with Faye and she didn't have the slightest idea of what to do.
Max was the one who saw Faye first, and he came over and smiled. "Hey, how's your uncle doing?" He was honestly quite glad to see her, after not being able to for the whole weekend. Max didn't realize how lonely and downright pathetic his life was without Amy until that weekend!
Faye seemed to be looking for someone too, even when Max appeared. She smiled at him politely, as one would to anybody that approached. "He'll return soon, thanks for your concern." Her smile turned into a genuine one when she finally found what she'd been looking for. "It was really nice talking to you, but I have to go. Bye!"
Just then, Amy came running down the hall. "No, wait! Faye don't go!"

Max stared. What...? He looked over at Amy and caught Faye by the arm gently. "Hold on a second, where are you going? Amy's calling for you, isn't that who you're looking for?" She was obviously looking for someone, but still, it wasn't usual for her to brush him off like that.
Amy reached them and took a moment to catch her breath. "Faye, what do you think you're doing? You could have smashed your nose with a locker!" She was relieved Max had stopped her. Faye had been acting weird the whole morning. "How are you going to find whoever you're looking for if you can't see him?!"
"I told you I heard his voice earlier, and he's around now." Faye put her hand over Max's hand. "I'm really sorry, but...-"
"But, she didn't have breakfast today!" Amy cut her off before she could say what Faye had told her earlier. That'd totally crush Max.

Max was already on alert. "He? Who are you looking for, Faye? I can help you find him." He looked at her hand, but didn't let go. "You know how crowded the halls get at this time, you'll never find him and you'll end up being late for class. Come on, Amy and I will help."
"You would? Thanks!" Faye smiled brightly. "See, Amy? And you said he'd be mad." By this time, Amy had practically devoured her nails. Faye tilted her head to a side, listening carefully the voices talking around.
Amy shook her head. "No, no, no. It's not a good idea." She gripped Max's sleeve. "Believe me, you don't want to help her."
Suddenly, Faye squealed. "I found him! I think he's the one that just dropped his books." She knew it because of the curse he'd said aloud when it happened.
