Max looked at her right in the eye. "Because he made Faye fall in love with someone else. ANd she doesn't even know why she stopped falling in love with me, so I know that it's not natural. It's not natural at all. If she chose to stop loving me, I'm okay with that. But this is forced. It's wrong. Against her will. So I'm going to go make him fix it."
Faye's mom cursed and crossed her arms angrily. "Unbelievable. This guy thinks he's the king of the world! And to think he used to be some rot of friend back i camp..." She shook her head and took her husband's hand. "Alright, go ahead. But, be careful."
Her father nodded in agreement. "He might not be a fighter, but he has other ways of hurting people, as you have found out."
Her father nodded in agreement. "He might not be a fighter, but he has other ways of hurting people, as you have found out."
Max nodded. "I know. I'm going to make him stop." He gave a nod and hurried off. Where did he go? Well, where the god of love would be; a love hotel. He just focused on his vampire senses, looking for the 'feel' of a god, of some supernatural nearby.
A young man was flirting with the girl behind the desk. He had an almost white shade of blond hair that curled at his neck. His face was more like the one of a teen, in spite of his real age. If you knew what you were looking for, it was easy to tell what he was.
Max went right up to him. "Cupid. We need to talk. Now." He glared at the girl, letting his vampire nature come out to scare her away. He looked at the man. "You and I are going to have a nice. Little. Chat."
Cupid turned to see who was talking to him as the girl quickly found something else to do, clearly intimidated. The blond guy seemed to have drunk too much ambrosia. He looked at Max lazily. "And you are...?" He tapped his chin and then snapped his fingers. "Oh, I know, now I remember you. What's up?"
"Maximillion Fonteres. I want you to take off the spell you have on my girlfriend Faye. Right now. Now." He looked at him intensely. "Why did you mess with her anyways?" He almost wanted to say that the god didn't know what he'd gotten himself into, but he stayed quiet. For now.
He leaned on the desk for some support. "Faye? My uncle's grand daughter. I remember her too." He loosed his tie and adjusted his coat. "I can't do anything." That answer wouldn't please Max, he was sure. "You just have to pull out the arrow, that's all." The god reached for his drink. "The curse will be gone soon, and I wanted some fun before the debt was paid."
Max took the drink and splashed it right in his face, dropping the glass. "How do I pull the arrow out? I don't care about your damn fun but you will NEVER do anything to Faye. You will stay away from her." He was pissed off. That was obvious.
The god pulled his eyebrows together, looking confused. "Dude, that was the finest ambrosia you can get around here. What a waste." He wiped his face with his sleeve. Unlike other gods, he knew when to react to an offense, and when not to. "Gods, just pull it out." He rolled his eyes. "If you love her, and focus, you'll be able to see it."
Max looked at him. "...Alright. Stay away from her and her family. Got it? Good." He turned and left. He was going to fix this quickly. He went back to his house. "Amy, Faye, are you still here?!"
Amy was playing video games in Max's huge TV. She nearly fell from the couch -an habit of her- when he walked in. "Max, hey! What happened? Is everything okay now? Faye?! Come here!" She said as she stood up, looking over at him. He didn't have an I-just-came-from-fighting-a-god look. "She's in the garden." She added.
Max walked right past her and went straight to Faye. He stopped and looked at her, focusing carefully. Where was that arrow? He had to find the arrow and save her. "Faye, come here. Please. Just for a minute." He looked at her, almost desperately.
Faye was sitting on the ground near the moon lilies Max had shown her the first time she'd been at his house. The flowers soothed her. At the sound of his voice, her head turned towards him and she stood up, even taking a few steps back. "Where's Amy?" Her gaze darted to the doors behind him, worried he was still mad.
Max looked at her sadly when she stepped away. She was scared of him. "She's inside. It's okay. Please. Just...come here, just for a moment. I promise, I won't hurt you." His eyes were still surveying her, trying to find the arrow. What if he wasn't in love enough to see it? But he was more in love than he'd ever been with anyone else, how could he NOT see it?
"O-Okay." Faye said doubting. But walked closer to him anyways. She didn't know what he was hoping to accomplish now, just that he was planning something. "What's the matter? Are you going to yell at me again?" She looked down at her feet, not mad anymore, just... sad.
Max shook his head gently, his eyes searching for the arrow. Damnit! Was Cupid lying to him?! "No. I'm not going to yell. I'm sorry, Faye. I'm sorry I yelled. I'm sorry..." He felt a lump growing in his throat. "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you." He stepped closer and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her in for a gentle hug. "I'm so sorry..."
Faye was surprised by how soft his voice was now. It was her Max again. She blushed slightly when she caught herself thinking like that. She was so confused. "I forgive you... It's okay." Her arms wrapped around his middle and she pressed her cheek against his chest. The sadness too overwhelmed her. What could she do to make it better?
Max felt tears sliding down his cheeks. He couldn't see the arrow. It was hopeless. "..and I forgive you." he said quietly. He pulled back and turned away so that she wouldn't see his tears. "...if he makes you happy, then...then you should be with him." He couldn't remember the last time he had cried like this. Was it when his parents died? "...you shouldn't be around a monster anyway."
A tear fell on her cheek, that's how she realized he was crying. Faye blinked and stared at his back for a moment. Her side stung more than ever now. He was saying what she'd wanted him to say now; but it didn't make her happy. It'd never do if he was upset. Cupid's effect on her didn't vanish, but the heart is limitless, and she couldn't continue being so detached. "I'm sorry. I love you." She said quietly.
