Max smiled widely at her. "The city and then the beach it is, Faye." He drove off with her, heading right into the city. They would be hitting all these places. The city, the park, the beach, wherever her little heart desired. Max would let them go in any store, any area, wherever she wanted to go. He let her lead. He just followed, and death-glared any guy that eyed up his girl.
Every place they went, was like discovering a new world for her, even if she'd been there before at night. Faye didn't buy anything, just looked and marveled at all she'd been missing, snapping pictures of everything she could, and even some of just her and Max. Those were the ones she wanted to remember the most.
With still a few hours of daylight left, it was a miracle they reached the beach at last. She almost teared up all over again at the sight. "Thanks f-for driving me around all day." She smiled at him.

Max had a wonderful time with her. He took her everywhere she wanted, helped her take pictures, and just...reveled in her happiness. When she thanked him, he smiled gently at her. "Of course, Faye. I'd do anything for you. You know that." The beach was beautiful. He was so excited that she got to see it.
At his words, Faye gave him a hug and a quick, gentle, but loving kiss. "But this was really something very important for me." Everything seemed to be okay now, as if the moment she met him, her life had started changing for the better. She looked at the sea and then back at him. "I bet you can't catch me!" She smiled and ran towards the water kicking off her shoes.
Max smiled at her. "All the more reason to do it." He kissed her back happily, then grinned and chased after her, giving her a chance to actually get away before he would nap her and kiss her cheek. "Gotcha!" He grinned and held onto her, smiling. They had splashed into the water at some point, but all he cared about was Faye.
Faye laughed and splashed some water at him. "Alright, I lose!" She turned to look at him. "It's not fair you're a vampire, you know. I'm usually faster than Amy, and she's pretty fast for human standards." The water reached their knees and it was just the perfect temperature. Not too cold and not to warm, either.
Max grinned at her. "Life's not fair, Faye." He snatched her up in his arms and kissed her cheek, then let her go to splash at her. "Well, you can't be faster than everyone, Faye. Someone has to be faster than you." He winked and poked her forehead, grinning.
Faye smiled happily when he kissed her cheek, leaving a tingling sensation there, as always. "I know, but -" She was cut off by the splashing, which caused her to splash back. Something touched her ankle and she gasped, waddling-running to practically hide behind Max. "Giant Squid!" She looked again and blushed. "Oh it's... it's a fish."
Max laughed a bit. "Faye, it's a fish, not a giant squid." He held her gently, smiling. "It's okay. I won't let anyone hurt you, Faye. Or anything." He walked through the water with her, holding her hand. "This is nice. It's really nice."
"My parents used to say there were giant squids in the water to keep me out of it. You know... because I could drown." Faye had believed it, and still kinda did, but that was something she would never outright admit. She laced their fingers together. "Yes, it's nice." She smiled at him lovingly, but then remembered something he'd said the night before that she'd been meaning to talk about with him. "Max, do you really think of yourself as a monster?" She asked him after a moment.
Max chuckled a bit and smiled at her. "A giant squid? Well, far off and really deep there are squids, but not this close to shore, silly." He pet her hair, but stopped when she asked that question. He looked at her for a few long moments, then sighed softly. "Yes, Faye. I do. Most of the time." He was hoping to avoid this conversation, but he knew he couldn't manage to avoid it forever.
Faye fixed her gaze on the water, the small waves lapping at their feet. She could sense that was probably the last thing he wanted to talk about, but it was something important. "How did it happen?" She paused before firing another question. "You don't have to tell me, if you don't want to. I just... I would never think of you that way. I don't see my teachers as humans, you as a vampire or me as a demigod. They're teachers, you're Max, and I am me."
Max paused, looking at her. "How did what happen? My vampirism, or how I came to consider myself a monster?" He looked around. Did they really have to talk about this on the day that she got her sight back? He sighed deeply and stared at the sun that was getting low in the horizon, casting the sky into lovely shades.
"I figured both answers may be related so I asked about how did you become a vampire." She followed his gaze. It was understandable that he wasn't much of a fan of the sun, but even he had to admit that sunset was beautiful. Faye squeezed his hand gently, trying to tell him without words that it was okay, that she would judge anything he'd say. She just wanted to know him. There was so little she knew about him, and she didn't want to ask Amy for those answers.
For the first time, Max pulled his hand away gently. When he was thinking and talking about what a monster he was, he couldn't touch her. He felt like he was contaminating her innocence with his bloody hands. "I was born, Faye. Born with a human parent and a vampire parent. My father was a human, my mother, a vampire." He took in a deep breath and let it out. "It's...not really supposed to happen. But it does sometimes. Mainly because my mother was Turned in her youth, just a little older than we are. Once you're Turned, you don't age. In my case, I age slowly."
Faye didn't say anything when his hand left hers, instead, she shoved her hands into her pockets, so that they wouldn't hang cold at her sides. He will either dump you or mourn your death for the rest of his life... Though annoying, Cupid's words were true. She nodded at his explanation. "Did they... Did they love each other? Or was it some kind of a one night thing?"
Max was quiet for a few moments. "...let's get back before it gets cold. We can go to my house. It's easier to explain when we're there." He would take her arm gently and walk with her to the car, helping her dry off and then get into the car. He drove them off to his house, and went inside with her. "Stay here."
He left for a moment, and soon returned, carrying a fairly large, ornate frame. When he turned it to face her, she could see that it was a painting. A lovely young woman, a handsome young man, and a small boy who certainly resembled Max. They were in older clothes, certainly not jeans and t-shirts. They were dressed up nicely, and all posed for a nice picture.
"Those are my parents."

Faye let him walk her to the car and didn't ask more questions during the ride to his house. He was upset enough as it was. When the got there, she paused just for a moment to admire the flowers he had planted that day she'd went out shopping and returned to his house later.
"Okay." She said when he asked her to stay in the living room. Her hair was still damp but it wasn't dripping water, so she guessed it'd be okay if she sat down on a chair until he came back, but got up inmediately when he showed her the painting. "It's beautiful." She smiled at that younger version of Max. It was really cute. Faye glanced up from the painting at him. "I don't think you're a monster, I think you're a miracle."

Max felt his gut wrench up when she spoke of him being a miracle. He smiled ruefully. "Some kind of miracle." He set the painting aside and sat down. "Father died. Mother left. She didn't want to stay with me, I guess I reminded her too much of dad or something. Dad is the one that's related to Amy's family. Her like...great-grandfather's brother, or something." He took in a deep breath and let it out.
"...do you really want to know, Faye?" He looked at her, very serious. This was an important matter. "There's no going back if you say yes." Once she knew, she knew. You can't un-know.

She flinched but sat down as well. She had meant it. Perhaps she didn't know what had been of his life before but he had truly changed hers. "I see." She was aware that whatever he'd tell her was serious, but she couldn't just pretend the conversation never happened. "Yes, I'd really like to know." She stared right back at him and nodded.
