She held up her hands, holding back her comment about how bad of a excuse that was. "Just breathe. I'll do what I can. I'll even take her to puppet shows if that's what it takes. I'm gonna go to see how she's doing now." She got up and turned around to give him a hug before she left. Who knew for long would he disappear? "Take care. And don't return your tux just yet. We have still two weeks more to go until prom."
Max hugged her back, letting go with a sigh when she mentioned the prom. "...right. Well, unless you can get her to become some creepy goth with a turn-on for blood and gore, it's probably not happening, Amy." He suddenly hugged her again. "You stay safe. And keep her safe too. Salted windows, and all that." He let her go and turned away, leaving quickly. He had grown too attached. Been in the same place too long. Now it was hard to leave. It was even harder to leave the girl that he loved. He went back to his house and got some things together, and then went on his search. He'd be gone for at least a full week. He would contact Amy once or twice, to check in. But he never talked to Faye. He was far, far too afraid.
"Bye cuz." Amy sighed and went to check on Faye. She'd lost a great deal of blood but it could be fixed, and meanwhile she had to stay at the hospital. "I hate the food." It truly was gross, but she had no other choice but to eat. Many people from the school came to visit, people she'd never seen before, but she recognized them by their voices. They made her stay at the hospital a little better. Her uncle was there everyday to lighten up her mood with a joke, and Amy too, even the still lovesick guy from school came, the one that Cupid had 'influenced'. Now that she actually knew him, Faye thought he was a nice boy. She asked for Max many times but Amy would always change the subject, so she stopped doing that.
When the day of going back to school finally came, she was more than happy to put on her uniform and walk in. It was a totally new experience for her to have more friends. It was a pretty warm welcome that day, but there was something off. She didn't see Max anywhere.

The teacher for her first class with Max paused before taking attendance. "For once," she said with a sigh, "Mister Maximilian has informed us of his absence. Apparently he has important family matters to attend to and he will be gone for a week or so. If one of you would like to take notes for him to help him when he comes back, I might be willing to give a bit of extra credit to you. Come see me after class about it." After that, she just went on with class. Probably the saddest thing Faye would realize was that Max's absence, aside from the teacher's announcement, was completely unnoticed. Nobody else cared. Nobody else asked where he was. In fact, it seemed like no one else even knew him. And that started to beg the question...did Max even have friends? Was his cousin and Faye the only two who cared about where he was or what he was doing?
Faye rubbed her forehead. What was he doing? She took notes for him, trying her hardest to not leave anything out so he wouldn't get behind. If he no longer cared about her, she would show him she hadn't forgotten. At lunch she caught Amy's arm, and dragged her into the girl's bathroom. "Now, tel me where is Max. Where did he go? I know you know. I won't follow him like some crazy girlfriend. I just want to know if he's alright." Amy's shoulders slumped. "I don't know. He didn't tell me. He'll be back. I'm sure he'll be back." Faye took a deep breath and handed Amy the notes she'd taken. "Just give these to him when you see him. We should go eat now."
Max wouldn't return for five more days. He finally came back, and it was on accident that he met with Faye. He had gone to Amy's to tell her he was back, and it turned out that Faye was at Amy's house. Once he had found this out, he hesitated in the doorway. "...Ask her if she wants to see me, Amy. If she says no, I'll go." He stayed in the doorway, waiting for Amy to get an answer. He was dressed like he always was, and he seemed completely normal. Except for a new faint scar trailed along his cheekbone on the right side of his face.
(I'm gonna scoot off to bed, just so you know I'll post when I can tomorrow!)
Faye had been talking about an offer to the prom from Jake, aka lovesick boy, when the doorbell rang. She waited as Amy talked with whoever was outside and then poked her head back inside to tell Faye it was Max. She got up from the couch, her first reaction was to run to hug him. Wait, what? That'd be way too easy for him. She'd been waiting for him to show up for days! Saying she was angry was an understatement. She smiled half heartedly and pointed behind her. "It's your house. I'm going to the kitchen." It wasn't a 'yes', but it wasn't a 'no' either. Amy looked back at Max. "Uh... Come in. It's good to see you again."
(Okay, Nighty!)
(Okay, Nighty!)
Mwx heard the response, but he only came in when Amy spoke. "This is a bad idea. I should go." He took in a deep breath and let it out. "Yeah. It's good to see you again, Amy. Did I miss anything big while I was gone?" He didn't sit, he simply stood.
Amy made a face but let Max in, closing the door behind him. "No, nothing except for Faye's parents' freaking out,, Faye freaking out and yeah, minor school stuff." She looked back to where Faye had disappeared too. "I swear I should lock you two up in my room to see if you'll finally sort your crap out. She's making dinner now."
"Mmmn." was the only response Amy got about locking them in a room. "Did they give her an order to stay away from me?" He wouldn't be surprised. "Let her go, Amy. She doesn't have to see me if she doesn't want to." He sighed slightly. "But...we need to talk." He sat down this time and leaned back, closing his eyes. At that moment, he looked tired. Very tired, and worn out.
"I don't know if I'm going to stay in town."
"I don't know if I'm going to stay in town."
"Well, they didn't flat out forbid her to see you, but," She made a pause. "They are encouraging her to consider another prom date, but she's not going." She said lowering her voice.
Faye had been listening to everything. She walked out of the kitchen, ready to pour on Max's head the salad she'd been making. "So you're leaving again, just like that?"
Faye had been listening to everything. She walked out of the kitchen, ready to pour on Max's head the salad she'd been making. "So you're leaving again, just like that?"
Max lifted a brow. "She's not going?" He was about to ask why when Faye walked in. He stood up, a very old habit kicking in of standing whenever a lady entered the room. "I'm not positive yet." He looked at her for a few moments, then slowly sat down. "Why aren't you going to the prom?" He looked at her, inspecting her carefully to make sure that she was alright.
"I don't feel like going." There were just a scar on her arm and a faint pain in her head to remind her of that day, oh, and the nightmares, but that was an entire different story. Faye didn't ask anything else even though she was dying to. Finally, after that awkward silence, she sighed. If he wanted to leave, then fine, she'd not stop him. Who needed him? Not her. She was just fine without him. "Have a very good life, Max. And thanks for... Stoping that vampire." Faye returned to the kitchen. This was her being too proud to ask him to stay.
Max was quiet as she spoke and he let her go back into the kitchen. He took in a deep breath and let it out. "Amy...I need some advice." He was speaking quietly. "We don't match. We can't. She's human. I'm vampire. Look what happened. She's never going to look at me the same again." He looked towards the kitchen. "..I'm dangerous. Too dangerous. And...things get complicated when I stay in one place for too long. I managed to hold out this long, but people start questioning when I'm not changing like they are."
Amy rubbed the back of her neck. "I'm so sorry. This was my fault. All I wanted was for you two to be happy before going to college and to have a good time! I didn't expect you to really fall in love." She bit her nails. She'd truly messed everything up for her best friends. "But," She looked at him sternly now. "If loved my boyfriend as much as you two love each other, I'd find the way to fix whatever is standing between us, and if I couldn't, then I'd make the most of every single moment instead of wasting time with fights." The last part she said it aloud so that Faye would hear too. It was a pain to be in the middle of all of it, but she was partly responsible. "So, what are you going to do?"
Max took in a deep breath and let it out. "...I have a different look on things, since I'm so old. If she wants me to leave, then I will. She deserves better, she deserves a normal life." He looked to the kitchen. "Faye. Come in here please."
Amy stood up. "Okay, I did what I could. I'll go make sure the lasagna doesn't get burned." Faye wiped her eyes. It wasn't fair that he was so calm and collected. She was so young and everybody seemed to think she didn't know much about anything, almost like a kid. "What?" She walked into the living room. "Really, Max, if you want to leave you are free to go. I have my sight and I will be careful each time I walk from one place to another. It'll be like before, but better."
Max was calm on the outside only. If she could glimpse inside him, she would find complete and utter chaos. "I never said I wanted to leave. I just have been considering it. There's...there's problems, Faye. For one, when you're forty, I'll be probably in my mid-twenties. For another, people notice my lack of aging, and that will start a lot of problems..." He rubbed his face. He seemed...old. Not physically, but how he acted just seemed old, like he had aged inside but not outside.
Faye went to sit on the couch, her resolve cracking. She hugged her knees to her chest. "I-I already knew that. I've known this whole time. I just thought... Nevermind. It's a-alright. You should leave town. M-Maybe you could go to Europe? Or go see the Northen Lights. There are plenty of things to do, and you have a very long life." She remembered her scrapbooks, filled with pictures of things she wanted to do and places she wanted to visit. "I wish I had listened to Cupid. He knew this would happen." She snifled.
