Max was going to see her soon, so he didn't mind the lack of goodbye. He went back to his own house, smiling and imagining what she could be plotting. He would put his school things away and settle down on the couch, waiting and listening until he could hear someone pull up or come up to the door. Maybe he didn't have anything better to do, or maybe he was just that excited.
Rushing into her house, Faye went to her room to get a raincoat. When her mom had dropped her at home, it had already started to rain. Perfect. She made sure everything was okay with her motorcycle, even that it had an extra helmet. It'd been tough having to learn how to drive that thing. It'd taken her several days, but at last, she'd managed to do it and driving it had become one of her favorite things to do. In a matter of minutes, she was in front of Max's house.
Max heard something. Not a car, but a... a motorcycle? He stood up and stretched, then went to the door and opened it. It was pouring rain. And she was on a motorcycle. In a raincoat. Max couldn't help but laugh. He got his own raincoat and went out to her, climbing on. "You're absolutely ridiculous, do you know that Faye? Absolutely ridiculous." He was still chuckling.
Faye narrowed her eyes at him when he climbed on behind her. "Hey, you were the one who said that if we did this, I had to bring a raincoat." She glanced at him over her shoulder. "Don't forget the helmet." She handed him the extra one she'd brought and them smiled, getting ready sto start driving again. "Ready?"
Max snickered. "I did." He nodded and took the helmet, putting it on. "Vampire in the rain with a raincoat and a helmet...I don't think I've ever felt so ridiculously human before." He chuckled a bit. "Ready."
Faye laughed loudly. Yes, she felt pretty silly in that motorcycle with a raincoat on and a helmet, but she wouldn't change that moment for anything. "Alright, then let's go." She smiled and started driving. Since she'd learned how to drive that thing, and to do it properly, without falling, she always got a rush. It was true what some people said about it giving you a sense of freedom.
Max smiled, proud of her as he watched her zoom along on her motorcycle. He enjoyed feeling the wind and rain whipping past them. It was great, to spend this time with her after all the struggles they had been through. It was a chance to just be at peace with her.
She pulled up just at the edge of the woods, on a hill overlooking the sea. It was a different perspective than from the sand, but not less beautiful, with rain and all. There was a silence for a minute before she turned to him. "Have you thought that you're still a vampire, and I'm still a human? And it will probably continue to be that way after our trip?"
Max was quiet for the entire ride, looking around and enjoying the sight. And then suddenly Faye dropped a bombshell on him. "..yeah." Way to kill the mood, Faye. With a sledgehammer. "I know." He didn't try to think about it though, because then he'd want to leave her again and that would all go to hell pretty quickly. He sighed.
The rain wasn't as heavy now, so Faye pulled down the hood of her raincoat. She nodded, and stopped the engine. "I wanted to apologize again about everything, and thank you, too. So... I'm sorry, and thanks." She smiled. It was easier to say what she really thought when she wasn't looking at him. "You know, Cupid once told me this was doomed, but I refused to think that then, like I refuse now."
Max listened to her apology. "...of course, Faye. And...you have nothing to apologize for. Really." When she mentioned Cupid, he frowned. "I don't like him." He took in a deep breath and let it out. He didn't want to admit that Cupid might be right in the end. How could this ever turn out well? But Max was tired of worrying about the future. He just wanted to be with Faye and make Faye happy in her life. If she got older and wanted to love someone else, or if she got older than died, as long as she was happy, he didn't care. It wouldn't be as happy of a life for him, though. "It's a lonely world without you, Faye."
"Yeah, I don't like him either." She looked down in silence after the last thing he said. It was full of unsaid worries and feelings. Faye carefully got off the motorcycle, holding her helmet under one arm. "How about we make a promise? From now on, we'll avoid talking about me dying or getting old, unless it's about a possible solution that will not just bring us down. Is that okay?"
Max nodded a bit. "..agreed." It was pretty difficult to decide, though. Was it that smart? To just ignore life and the world? Or should they really focus on this? He sighed and looked at her. "I just want to enjoy my time with you, Faye." He smiled a little and kissed her cheek.
"That's what I want too." She looked over her shoulder at the woods behind her. "Do you know that place where small kids used to go? That lake? We can go now if you want." She looked down at her raincoat. "I don't think you'll let me get in the water, but... we could just spend some time there." She poked him, smiling. "So, what do you say?"
Max smiled softly at her and gave a slight nod. "...yes, I know the place. Going there sounds just fine to me." He put his arms around her and held her close, then let her go drive them off to the lake. She was right though, he wasn't going to let her get in the water. She'd catch a cold!
Happy he'd agreed, she kissed his cheek, where his scar was, the put the helmet back on and started driving again. Faye was having a really good time. Each time there was a curve, she'd lean towards one side exaggeratedly, or if there was a small bump in the road, she'd laugh when it made the motorcycle jump.
"Okay, I think this is it." She said after around ten minutes, stopping at the edge of the woods again. There was a sign indicating that the lake was just a few meters from there.

Max just smiled and held onto her, happy to see her so excited and enjoying herself so much. After seeing her so sad, he liked seeing her happy. He felt like he was almost redeemed in her happiness. "What should we do with the motorcycle? Will it be alright to leave it?"
"Hmm, what? Oh yes, the motorcycle." Faye tapped her chin for a moment. Her dad would kill her if something happened to it. "We could hide it behind a tree. That way it won't be visible to everyone who drives by." She started pushing it towards the nearest tree.
Max chuckled softly and nodded. "Indeed. Alright then." He helped her push it behind the tree and made sure it was all nicely hidden. Then he took her hand and started towards the lake like she wanted. "So what shall we do at the lake, hm?" He put his arm around her and held her close as they walked.
"Thanks." The raincoat was keeping the cold at bay, but she was grateful for the added warmth of Max's arm around her. She shrugged, smiling. "We could talk. About what we've been doing, not all can be bad, right? About our trip..." Faye rested her head against his shoulder as they walked. "Where should we go first, or we could just talk abou the weather." Honestly, she'd missed just talking to him, having him around. Sometimes while he'd been away, and there had been some random thing she wanted to share with Max, she'd tilted her head to a side to hear better, and then discovered that she no longer needed to do that to find him, followed by the sinking feeling that he was no longer there.
