Hello everyone,
I'm not sure where to put this as it is kind of a very random subject and I have no idea who to go to to figure this out.
I just got a new laptop, and Google Chrome of course wasn't installed, so I installed it.
However, I noticed something from the beginning that I am now noticing more in detail, which is this wierd mechanical sound coming from the laptop. Not from a fan or anything, but it's like a mechanical stuttering kinda sound, I'm not sure how to describe it. I noticed it comes every time I write something and use my mouse, it's not that bad when my mouse is standing still, BUT the sound is only present when I have Google Chrome open. When I close it it's not there, when I use Internet Explorer it's not here. There are no updates as it updates itself. I have checked.
I'm not sure how this would ever be a thing, but I was wondering if anyone knew anything, and if I should try and uninstall and reinstall Chrome browser to see if that would help?

My first question is whether your laptop has a hard drive. The way you describe it sounds like a hyper-hard drive shuffling data. Chrome is a nice browser, but it’s always been a bit bloated in storage use.
If you’re laptop has a flash drive, then I have to say I have no idea why it would be doing that other than fans.

like im on a laptop and currently i have not heard anythink like this before i think its best if you get it checked out at one of those shops where they can help and fix things if your concern about it.
as i dont think theirs much you can do if you have never built a computer or a laptop from scratch (which i have and so it was easy for me to fix,... i am not a technician just a normal 16 year old girl obsessed with tech)
and also i think it depends on where you got your laptop and how much as that could affect how it was made and how good of a quality it is.
( just my opinion, if it helps ? )

There's a saying out there and it's practically a meme at this point, but Google Chrome is a RAM eater. It will spike your CPU. Find a better browser like Firefox!

It has an SSD drive in the side but other than that I don't know anything.

I study as a web developer and we get pretty good quality laptops, even with gaming graphic cards, from the school we study at, so I guess it's them I have to talk to.

I might try firefox because of this, haha! I have just never experienced it before. However, the laptop dosen't get high in cpu and dosen't get hot or noisy. It's just what I have told in my first post, lol.
I agree with the person who said that it might be a CPU problem. Google Chrome is notorious for being a memory hog and, even though it is only a web browser, it tends to allocate a ridiculous amount of valuable resources to run in the background. Even though I use Chrome for its speed and customizability, it isn't the most computer-friendly of browsers.
I used to work in information technology at a local community college, and it astounded us workers that they would demand we install Chrome on mediocre machines. But... it was better than IE. shrug
Other than that, I am not entirely sure what the problem could be.

Thank you so much for your input!! It has definitietly helped me.
I have now downloaded Firefox and using that now. The sound is still there but it's much less and not as loud as when using Chrome, so it seems it has helped a bit.

Wow, some IT that actually insists on using a memory hog... For shame!
I agree that Firefox is probably the best browser option. Most laptops these days are SSD, or “flash” as it was sometimes called. I suppose the CPU activity triggering the cooling fan to run hard is the noise you hear. Google Chrome should be called Platinum since it costs that much in resources...

There actually is Google Chrome Platinum. But it's notorious for being so slow. And will only slow down the computer. Firefox is definitely a better browser for laptops. I had uninstall google chrome and then reinstall it soooo many times, because it kept on crashing or just not plainly not opening up at all. Chrome works much better on desktop computers it turns out. But I am too glad you have found something that has worked. ^^

Ah, I did not know this! I guess I'm just a noob, lol. I have heard Google Chrome takes a lot of energy off the laptop but didn't know it was that bad. Glad I wrote in here to find people who knew more than I did. Thank you.
