What do you think of fandom RP? Do you RP as canons, or do you prefer to play an OC and have someone else play canons? Do you prefer, even, RP set in a fandom universe, but with all OCs? (I've seen this a lot with My Little Pony, Harry Potter and Sailor Moon RPs.) Have you ever RPed your OC while another person played a canon, without you knowing anything/much about the fandom they were in, just learning things as you played? (This is something I specifically love to do, though from the other end, and it clearly doesn't necessarily work for all fandoms.)

Do you do crossovers? Would you? What limits would you put on crossovers?

What fandoms are your favourite to RP, if you RP them? What fandoms do you think don't lend themselves well to it -- indeed, if you think any do!
Thomas Baker (played anonymously)

As you're probably able to tell by looking at the character, I don't have a problem with Fandom RP. It's a fun way of expressing one's enthusiasm for a particular work of fiction.

My personal preference is playing an OC, preferably in an era before or after that fandom's current "setting". For example, this particular character is a Harry Potter 'verse OC, for a RP set decades after Harry leaves Hogwarts.

Yeah, the Harry Potter universe seems to be one where most people prefer OCs, though of course I've seen exceptions.

As for me, I love fandom RP, and play both canons and OCs for it. This depends a lot on what fandom the RP is in; I prefer mostly OCs for Harry Potter universe and Redwall, for instance, but for Batman I prefer to play canons (though not necessarily WITH canons), for Phantom of the Opera I play entirely canons, and for Animorphs I'm... a little more flexible, but prefer to play canon myself. I don't think there's a single fandom I play that I won't RP with someone playing an OC, though.

I don't do much crossover, which is too bad, because I've always wanted to do a huge 19th-century-setting musical crossover. If someone can come up with reasonable crossovers (for instance if someone wanted to do Phantom of the Opera in Equestria, instead of just having characters randomly teleported from one to the other), I'm often game, but I'm not happy with crossovers that break continuity too much. For instance, an Animorphs/Dr. Who crossover works fairly well; An Animorphs/Redwall one would not.

Obviously my favourite fandom to RP is Animorphs, though most of my fandom RP has been Harry Potter. I've never ever been able to grasp Death Note RP. I just don't get how that would work, I love Death Note (I am currently wearing a Death Note shirt, even), but I just don't see how it would make good RP.

I love to play ponies alongside super serious broody antiheroes, 100% pure komedy gold

I don't mind fandom roleplays, although I heavily prefer involving or interacting with fan-made characters only rather than canon ones.
