Drom Rekkin (played by MochaJee)

It was Drom’s turn to be taken aback. Declan had just offered shelter. Hardly anyone had done so since he was a child. It was easier to accept a child into your home, a full grown man, much less so. His eyes looked to one of the windows belonging to Declan’s home. The fire seemed warm and even the pelt on the floor would have been most comfort he would have felt in ages. He quickly shook his head and closed his eyes as if to rid himself of the temptation.

He pointed to the empty alleyway, sandwiched between Declan’s home and the neighboring one. The roof extended over it and it seemed free of any refuse. That area would suit him just fine. He clasped his two palms together and gestured a pillow on his cheek.

The kindness of the offer was not taken lightly. Drom wished he could express that to the man. His facial muscles had long lost how to smile, but he hoped his eyes shone. He recited a quick prayer to Ban in his head with a blink for the man and his family.
Vanadey (played by Feather)

Vanadey followed her brothers to the home of the lord of the realm, formulating her story as she walked. She held not a smile nor an indifferent expression. Rather, her features were soft, welcoming, and pleasant. Many eyes were drawn to her as she walked, some in awe, others in jealousy. Either way, she took no notice.

When the guards addressed her and Ban, she let the latter speak first. After him, all eyes were on her. In a voice a smooth as honey, so they were not to suspect her of lying, she spoke.

"I am Selia. I've resided in the forest since the death of my father, whom was a fine huntsman in his glory days. I came as a witness to the findings of this traveller--seeing many, many wrongs for myself." She gazed up at them with sad, moist emerald eyes, "Please allow us to speak to his Lordship. It is vital that our message reach his ears."
Nagash (played by Cactus_Jones)

Arkan has spotted the new arrivals in the town, to him they felt strange as their presence felt off to him. He then began to tail behind them as stealthily as he can and making sure his skulking went unnoticed from he saw and was successful in his tailing with almost no consequence in it. He saw Vanadey and her magic to the apple with the child and knew right then and there he had found them. So he quickly left the sight and blended in the crowded and walked back to his home. When he arrived at his house he sat at the center of the living room and began to pray to his God.

Nagash was sitting in his chair and reading his book near his sister waiting for his strength to return to him before he could even walk. As he was reading he heard a voice. He began listening and discovered the voice of the entity. It was his servant and he had found the siblings. As listened in the prayer it surprised him to the forms his siblings had taken. As the prayer ended he turned Nimue and said to her, "Sister, I have found them... from what I had heard, they safe ."
Hamos (played by MochaJee)

The guards must have been astonished for they paused a while as Hamos’ companions replied to them. This group was very different than the usual common folk and rabble that visited to list pointless grievances. The one to the left, he looked younger, with his facial hair just beginning to show quickly hurried inside.

Moments later they were escorted inside by the guards and led by a manservant. Hamos would not consider the main lobby regal but it was certainly grand. A large staircase sprouted from the middle and connected to the second level balcony with adjoining rooms. Only a handful of other servants and maids could be seen attending to their chores. Most of the commotion came from the kitchens. As was expected as supper would probably be served soon. The most that Hamos could tell of the Lord Edrir from his home was that he was not vain. In another lord’s manor, a large portrait of himself may be the first thing they wished their visitor’s eyes to be drawn to. Here, the walls were adorned with paintings of family, nature and scenes of Deermire itself. The man seemed to care for his people.

The lord finally showed himself after a few minutes, trailed by the manservant that let them in. He wore a dark blue doublet with the top bit unbuttoned. His hair was fell inches above his shoulders and he sported a trimmed mustache and goatee. His gait was hurried and there were slight bags under his eyes. He wasn’t haggard per say, but he may be soon if he kept on as he did.

Let the show begin, Hamos thought to himself and then spoke while offering the best bow his he could muster, “My lord”.

Edrir, quickly glanced at Hamos and his companions then showed them into a room with plush furniture and a long end table with a bowl of fruits.

“Please, make yourself comfortable, can I offer you all anything to eat or drink?” he asked the group as he found a place to sit facing them. The manservant waited expectantly.

Edrir’s face showed visible signs of confusion. He kept looking at Hamos then the other two as if trying to figure out the correlation between the three. He seemed to recognize the garb that Hamos was wearing and may have wondered where the rest of his unit was.

“My lord” Hamos begun, still standing. A military man would hardly ever sit in front of his lord. Or so he thought. “I must ask for your forgiveness, our unit failed your task. Our commanding officer and the rest of the men have simply disappeared. We were attacked, for the life of me I could not tell you what they were. I went down, and when I woke, I looked for them but could not find anyone. Their tracks stopped at dead ends, I was hungry and alone. After a few days I found these two. They may have witnessed more than I have. I will let them speak for themselves.”

Edrir showed little reaction to the tale he had just spun. Hamos wondered whether the story was believable. These humans could be so stubborn at times.

“Your name, young man?” he asked Hamos.

“Darren, my lord” Hamos replied almost too quickly.

“Please sit, rest and eat. Merin, have them bring dinner here tonight. I will dine with my guests today” he said to the man servant still waiting behind him.

“Well then, while we wait, I would like to hear the rest of your stories.” he said to both Ban and Vandey.
Vanadey (played by Feather)

Vanadey was in awe, the grand building having a design like no other. Then again, she had only ever seen the halls of Flamespire in her life.

Vanadey gave a slight curtsey, "Of course, my lord." She took a breath before speaking. "I have spent many years in the forest, my lord. And never in my life have I seen anything like this before." Her eyes told anyone who looked in them that she was speaking the truth. They swirled with concern and sorrow, the corners of her pink lips pointing down slightly. "There have been attacks on travelers. And recently my brother had been killed by one such creature. The trees, flowers, grass, and plants have been dying as well. The waters seem poisoned, too. And the ani.als grow sicker and weaker each day."
Ban (played by FlamingPsycho) Topic Starter

Ban looked around, somewhat curiously, though still he kept a disinterested tone about his face, enjoying the view but not awestruck by it at all. He listened to the stories of the other two, of why they had come to this place, slowly, internally, formulating his own excuse.

Once Vanadey finished, he bowed politely to the Lord, to tell him of his reasons.

"I regret, my lord, that I am nothing more than a mere traveler. I am no homebody, and thus do not have a place to settle. But that does mean that I have had many years of exploring, and vast knowledge of the woods. I also can tell when something is wrong, and that is what is currently happening. Our natural world is dying. The fish are being poisoned, and then their predators fall ill as well. Unless action is taken to find this issue, I fear that we will all die. And so once I came upon this idea, I ran to find you and stumbled upon my friends here, to take you my message."

He glanced at Hamos, hoping his story was fine. He really did not communicate to humans often, he preferred to speak to other holy beings, or to animals he held in high regard. Speaking to humans was so very, very odd.
Hamos (played by MochaJee)

Lord Edrir had heard the reports and for the most part they seemed to corroborate the stories that were being told. Merchants and travelers were being attacked, some said they were by highwaymen, others could not recall. He had doubted a few of them. Many a swindler would come to him under the guise of falling upon misfortune, hoping to receive some form of compensation. Yet this peculiar group did not seem to belong to that group. They had yet to complain about their future finances and how they would no longer be able to support themselves as another commoner might.

“My lord, dinner is just about done. Are you sure you want to dine with these guests?” He asked while ferrying a jar of wine and four goblets. The last word had a condescending note to it. Merin did not particularly like that Edrir spent so much time for the people of Deermire. He could recall him saying, A lord should not involve himself in the troubles of peasants.

“Yes, I believe I made myself clear about that matter Merin, we will be dining together in here” Edrir said. He may spend an indecent amount of time with the common folk, but he would not bring them into the dining room. That was decidedly reserved for lords and ladies. He squinted at the woman that called herself Selia. It was a shame that she had kept to the wilderness for so long. With her beauty, she could have had any suitor she wished.

“This is all very troublesome news, though not a surprise. I’ve heard similar stories in my reports and I am at my wits end trying to differentiate fact from fiction”.

He reached for the wine himself and began pouring out the glasses. Merin would have undoubtedly given the guests paltry amounts. He passed them around and raised his own as a silent toast before taking a sip.

“I have already informed the people that should they have extra mouths to feed at home, their children are welcome to come train at my keep. I will care for them and use them to bolster our guards. Still, I do not know if I have enough to spare to go out into the woods and investigate these disturbances myself.”

He paused for another sip, and studied his guests for a reaction.

“However, I will say that the people of Deermire are resilient and resourceful. Before the troubles, my job mainly consisted of resolving petty disputes and throwing the common thug into the dungeons.” Edrir then looked to Hamos. “I may have new orders for you if you are ready to return to duty. I will not send you out again, rather into Deermire itself. We have hunters, woodsman, blacksmiths and farm hands that are just as skilled as my men if not more so. You may be able to find a few that are more suited to investigate these happenings. What do you think?” He asked looking to all three instead of just Hamos.

The question hung in the air as the kitchen staff began placing plates of bread, cheese and meats along the long end table between Edrir and Hamos' siblings. Hamos noticed that he shifted uncomfortably under Edrir’s gaze when the question was posed to him. He could barely believe it. He, a god, felt nervous in front of this noble. He found the hierarchies of power among humans very curious and this experience had given him quite another outlook.

“My family, my lord. If I can, I would like to seek them out before I return to my post.” he blurted out, still wincing at hearing how different, Darren’s voice sounded compared to his.

Obviously, he would choose whether or not he would take on the Lord Edrir’s orders after discussing with Ban and Vandey. It seemed to have merit, if there really were skilled men and women capable of defending themselves from this new evil.

It may have been their fault that they left their seats in Flamespire unattended, leaving Deermire so vulnerable, but they did not have to take the burden on just themselves. The humans were a part of this world, and if they wished to continue residing in it, they too would have to defend it.
Ban (played by FlamingPsycho) Topic Starter

Ban, ever silent, a strong believer in actions being far more important than the words that may slip from his mouth, ever so gracefully watch the lord, examining the manservant, eyes like colorless shards of ice, changing as balance shifted, different nuances from each other, a small yet ever visible sign of the shift of the world as it began to crumble like old bones, laying in a dusty corner years and years after the bone-bearer's soul had joined with its past kin and in the land of the ever dancing spirits. Yes, indeed, he could feel this issue becoming more dire as every second passed. He yearned to not be in this royal household, but instead where he belonged. Where they all belonged.

As the lord spoke, he did take advantage of where he stood in the proximity of Hamos. For a god, one would normally assume he would be a well-muscled, strong bearer of supernatural strength and talents, but his strength was not of the body but instead of the mind, the soul. His body was, compared to most, a rather pitiful vessel indeed, which only made it clearer why he preferred to keep himself at an animalistic form. He himself was suffering with every power struggle between the good and the bad, the right and the wrong, and had rested a friendly hand on the shoulder of the other, sturdier god, leaning against him slightly, exhausted, though this exhaustion could not be settled with a long night's rest. After all, heavenly deities typically do not sleep.

Golden hair partially obscuring some of his face, as it was rare that he kept it pinned back, he watched Lord Edrir, watched him as he poured wine. What a polite lord, most humans with any political power wouldn't be so kindhearted to such unknown strangers who they knew little of, gratefully taking his cup

"I can guarantee you, my lord, that we do speak fact. We come merely to warn you of the dire circumstances and alert you to how action must be taken before the human race is wiped out. I would advise that as many as possible are trained in the skill of war, though not war against other humans, but war against forces of nature. War against enemies like none they have ever faced before. Preparation and strategy is your only chance." He warned, voice hollow as he spoke.

Unlike Hamos, he certainly felt no discomfort in front of this human, only worry over the future.
Hamos (played by MochaJee)

Edrir raised his hands up in apology to Darren.

“Of course, find your family and enjoy their company. You have deserved that and much more. Only when you are ready, please return and we can discuss your future here” he said immediately. He mentally scolded himself for seeming inconsiderate. He could not use these recent troubles as an excuse for ignoring common indecency.

“Take a horse from the stables Darren, I will have payment sent to you on the morrow” he said with a nod. “Now please let us eat and after the two of you are welcome to spend the night in one of my spare rooms. We rarely have the pleasure of hosting travelers”.

As they ate, he tried to listen more than he spoke. A lesson taught to him by his mother. People are always quick to fill silences and often reveal more than they ought to, she would say. With the usual commoners that turned out to be true. So much so, that he would get more relevant news of the on-goings of Deermire from their gossip than the official reports. These three however did not give up much. Probably due to the fact that they had led more secluded lifestyles, he thought. Besides the soldier, the other two seemed peculiar. He could not put his finger on it, but it was as if their auras were slightly different. It was as if they were nobles in commoner’s clothing.

“I will do my very best to prepare Deermire for whatever she may face and I thank you for this warning.” He said in response to Ban. There it was again, the man spoke to him as if they were equals. “So shall I tell the maids to set up rooms?”

At first he was ambivalent to whether they would take up his offer, but now he hoped they would. If it would give him a chance to learn more about them, he would allow them to stay a week.

Hamos looked to his siblings trying to discern if they would accept the lord’s offer. He admired the man’s hospitality. He many not have been a disciple to the lord of home and family, but it was the decent thing to do. It was probably why there were rarely any holy men devoted to Hamos. The ‘decent thing to do’ was already honoring the way of Hamos. Providing shelter for you neighbor or lending an ear to a friend’s trouble were all actions that he deemed sacred. His siblings wished to guide the mortals to respect different and sometimes complex facets of life. He wanted to remind them that the simple things are just as important.

“I know my roof is not as grand as Lord Edrir’s but I too offer it to you both. My parents love guests and would gladly all the kindnesses you both have repaid me in escorting me back home. We don’t have much but we are comfortable” Hamos said as Darren, offering both Ban and Vanadey a way out should they not want to stay next to the lord.

Hamos hoped that the lord was not listening too closely to his tale. He dearly hoped that news of Darren’s parent’s death would not be something that the lord would have remembered. He did not want to put the lord in an awkward situation of having to deliver grim news to a returned soldier that had also been orphaned.

He did not mind if his siblings stayed with the lord. He doubted Vanadey would due to her affinity towards nature. Ban however, he was unsure of. He had always thought that he was more quick witted that himself and may find some opportunity if he were to work with the Lord Edrir. On top of that, he knew his brother needed rest and a night in a manor would certainly be welcome.
Ban (played by FlamingPsycho) Topic Starter

At least this lord was a kind lord, very much far from arrogant lords of the darker kingdoms, who had all but turned their back on old beliefs in order to pursue something new, something completely false, forgetting the old ways the had governed their lives for so long and thus driving another dagger through the already bleeding heart of each and every one of the gods.

Though Ban was wary of the offer. It was honest enough, he was sure, and he doubted Lord Edrir wished to cause him any harm, but he wasn't sure if it was the wisest choice in his present condition, not if he stayed like this. The lord may make assumptions of his trouble, and grow suspicious, and possibly try to find him the help that would never work, would do absolutely nothing if it did not harm his current vessel first.

On the other hand, though, he was still resting a good bit of his weight on Hamos's shoulder and didn't look forward to having to continue his feign of a human and walk back to wherever they would be staying tonight. So, perhaps it would be wisest to take advantage of the lord's goodness for at least one night, but then again...no.

"I do appreciate the offer, my lord, but I believe I shall find my lodgings with Darren tonight, and return at a later date to discuss this issue." He murmured, voice gentle, still resting against the other god. After all, there was always more to discuss about the problem that they indirectly caused by taking their ill-fated rest.

While staying with the lord would certainly help him glean more about Deermire's issues from a human standpoint, he could worry about that later. For now, he needed to make sure he got rest in a place of true safety.
Nagash (played by Cactus_Jones)

He stood up and began to think to himself of how and why would he meet the rest of his siblings. He went over the pros and cons of the meeting. He then began to remember the incident of Harriscon when he and Hamos almost brawled concerning the outcome of a the poverty of the town. He gave the people of the town an option of how to stop their problem... He told them to kill the poor, the elderly who couldn't provide for themselves and orphans who's couldn't get a family to feed and clothe them. The people would agree and a week-long slaughter of the people he told for them to go after came to fruition as the economic situation improved greatly but there were those who strongly disagreed of what happened to them. Hamos confronted about and Nagash responded to him in a cold-blooded manner which garnered him the title of "Cold-Blooded Logic."

But Nagash knew this world needed to heal and quickly before it was to be ripped asunder by the demonic horrors that wished to feast upon the chaos and suffering of the world he had helped create. So gotten ready by getting his camping equipment ready, 2 weeks of food if he rationed and finally took his sword, staff and a book of spells to remind of him of what spells would be needed for his traverse to Deermire. As he left his cave he reminisces of the last years he called this cave home and actually liked his home away from his Flamespire. So he then walked down the mountain with carefully watching his step before coming at the base. He then spotted the boat that was created before for a quick 6-hour journey to the town. He unknotted the rope from one of the logs holding it. As he climbed aboard he grabbed one of the oars sitting on one of the seats and began to push himself from the dock and rowed his way to the outskirts of Deermire.
