Raeliel walked right into the room to find that he had his shirt off! "O-oh, I'm sorry." She turned around, looking down at the floor. "...are you okay?" She was worried about him...very worried. Their first day married and she got him all beat and battered. Great. That didn't bode well at all. She closed her eyes tightly. "Saelhil. When we were dancing, yesterday. I...I started feeling--" But they wouldn't find out what she was feeling. There was a knock on the door. Raeliel sighed and went to go answer it. To her surprise, it was a messenger. The messenger held out a letter. It was addressed to her. She thanked him and shut the door, then opened the letter to read it.

She'd barely gotten through the first few sentences when she gasped, dropping the letter to the floor and covering her mouth with her hands. "No...no..!" Tears welled up in her eyes and she hid her face in her hands quickly. No amount of training could keep her from crying right now.

Saelhil nodded to her question, and quietly put his shirt back on, turning to face her fully. "You started feeling what?" he murmured when she left, though he knew she couldn't hear him. He shook his head lightly and followed her, careful not to hurt himself as he went downstairs.

"Raeliel...?" He saw her crying and quickly went to her, setting a hand on her arm. "Raeliel? What's wrong?" He spotted the letter on the floor and picked it up.

Raeliel just hid her face in her hands and cried. She let him read the letter, because she surely couldn't tell him. 'Dearest Raeliel. It is very unfortunate that I must interrupt your wonderful new life, but I must be the bearer of sad news. Mirathin was attacked on the return journey. He arrived home, but his injuries were too great. I regret to inform you that your dear friend has passed away. Take comfort that he passed happily, knowing that you were starting a wonderful new journey in your life. Condolences, your father, Lord Dragun.'

Well. That was interesting.

Saelhil had to read it twice in order to make sure he wasn't mistaken. Mirathin was... dead...? He had barely met the man, but Raeliel seemed to love him dearly (as a friend or otherwise wasn't really important at the moment). But more than sadness he felt anger. Raeliel's... whatever you would call Mirathin... had been attacked to the point of death, and all Raeliel got for consolation was a letter delivered by some stranger? Had Lord Dragun no heart!? Did he not know how deeply it would affect Raeliel?! Saelhil felt his stomach boil with anger, but he said nothing, only tossing the letter aside. Without hesitation, he pulled Raeliel towards him, keeping her in a firm embrace to try and at least cushion some of the shock. He didn't care if she pushed away; she had to know that he cared for her happiness.

Raeliel did not push away. At this moment, a comforting embrace was what she needed the most. Her hands moved from her face to cling to him, and she sobbed against his chest. She couldn't believe it. Mirathin was their best soldier, it was why he'd been sent as her sole escort. It was just...too unbelievable. But there it was, in her father's writing. It had to be true. Raeliel cried against Saelhil until no more tears could come out. Then she just stayed in his grasp, sniffling softly. She was devastated.

Saelhil exhaled softly, holding Raeliel close until she stopped crying. Eventually, he just kissed her forehead and slowly pulled away. "Why don't you go rest?" he suggested gently, watching her with sad eyes. How could her father do such a thing to her? There was no summons for a funeral, no personal consolations. The letter seemed rigid and too formal. Saelhil had to go speak with his father; something had to be done. Lord Dragun couldn't just leave his daughter, devastated, in the midst of complete strangers!

Raeliel just gave a little nod. She said nothing to him, but after what she'd just learned, that's no surprise. She leaned against him for a moment longer, then left to go climb into bed. She wished it was just all a bad dream. She would wake up and it would be that first morning again. That was all she wanted. To just wake up and find it had all been a dream. After crying so much, Raeliel fell asleep rather quickly. And for a while, she was lucky to have dreamless rest.

Saelhil, meanwhile, went to speak with his father. After a lengthy discussion, Saelhil found out that Raeliel, by order of her father, was to remain in the village under any circumstance, until further notice. This made Saelhil rather angry, but he didn't speak against his father, but only said that it was cruel to keep Raeliel somewhere she didn't want to be with someone she didn't want to be with. However, the conversation was private, and so it would be safe from any eavesdropping or rumors... at least, Saelhil was mostly sure of that. He returned to his own home to check on Raeliel.

Raeliel was still sleeping soundly. Saelhil did indeed have a dilemma now. He couldn't just leave her and go to her town for her, but this was all getting ridiculous. As Saelhil came into the room to check on her, Raeliel stirred slightly. She rolled over, seeming to wake for a few moments. But then she just fell into soft tears, and pulled the blanket up around her some more.

Saelhil sighed, watching her. What a horror her life must be at the moment... He shook his head and sat on the foot of the bed, trying to figure out what he needed to do next. Did she know she wasn't allowed home? Probably. Perhaps he could sneak her back to her village, maybe in disguise?

After a few more moments, Raeliel finally sat up. She had felt the shift on the bed when he sat down. She rubbed at her face a little and sniffled. "...When are we going to be getting visitors again?" She got up and went to the washroom to wipe her face. She had to get herself under control and pull those appearances up again so that she could pretend everything was okay.

"We won't be, don't worry," Saelhil murmured. He rubbed his face briefly, then stood. "Raeliel... Raeliel, I want to take you home." He turned to face the washroom, waiting eagerly for a response.

Raeliel was just coming out of the washroom when he asked her that question. She froze and stared at him. Then, she turned her head away and walked back to the bed. "I can't, Saelhil." She sat down on the edge of the bed and sighed. "This is my home. I'm here." She looked down at her scratched-up palm. She knew he wouldn't understand it all. It was probably ridiculous in his eyes.

Saelhil shook his head. "I want to take you back to your village. You should be able to say goodbye to him." He frowned. "Your father should have come in person." He crouched in front of her. "Let me take you back. Only for a day or two. Your town is big; no one would notice two more people. We can go in disguise, if you're so worried. Please, let me take you."

Raeliel looked down at him as he crouched in front of her. "Saelhil..." Tears welled in her eyes and she turned her head away. "I-I can't. If I went, it would be betraying everything. My life is here now. Everything else is the past. My village, my father...Mirathin. Th-they're...they're all in the past. My life now is this village, and you....that's all that matters now.." She sniffled and wiped at her eyes. Saying goodbye sounded so nice, she had to admit that.

(I'll be able to respond right away for about 45 more minutes, but then my posts may stop or be sporadic, depending if I can post via mom's phone or something lol.)

"You can't move on if you haven't said goodbye to your past," Saelhil said quietly. "No one has to know we went. I will tell everyone I'm taking you to the eastern shore for a few days. Newly weds always go there." Saelhil tried to catch her eye, but since she looked away, he squeezed her uninjured hand to get her attention. "Let me take you."

Raeliel hesitated for a few long moments, but finally looked back to him. "...alright. Only if we go in disguise, and nobody knows we went." She slid off the bed so that she was kneeling with him, and then she just leaned against him. "...thank you, Sael..." she said quietly. She stood up after a few moments. "So...when do we leave?"
