"Of course it doesn't." Saelhil leaned over to kiss her forehead. "...if it would make you feel any better, I'll cut mine as well." He smiled a bit at her.

(Oh no! Feel better soon!)
Raeliel smiled a little when he said it doesn't, blushing as he kissed her forehead. But what he said afterwards made her stare at him in utter surprise. He would be willing to do that?? Her eyes followed him, his hair. It was longer than hers was now certainly. She sighed softly, reaching over to brush her fingers along his hair. "I can't ask you to do that, Saelhil..." Cutting her hair had been devastating. She didn't want him to suffer the same emotional turmoil.

Cutting her hair had been devastating. She didn't want him to suffer the same emotional turmoil.
Saelhil brushed his eyes briefly when she stroked his hair, then watched her. "I just don't want you to feel uncomfortable when we go home..." he said quietly. He turned slightly so he could face her properly. "I'm willing to do anything to make you happier."
Raeliel paused. She looked at him, looked into his eyes like she was so often afraid to do. She wanted him to cut his hair. But she just couldn't ask him to do that. She ran her fingers through his hair, catching some of his locks gently in her palm. "Your hair is so lovely, Saelhil." She smiled a little at him, then let it go and turned to look back at the sky. She didn't know how to feel about his complete and utter commitment to her, his willingness to do anything for her happiness. "You shouldn't try to be so pleasing, Saelhil. Women are fickle."
Saelhil watched her, then looked up to the sky as well. "I suppose I should try to act more like a man and not care at all. But that seems a bit mean, so I don't really think I want to." He chuckled a bit.
Raeliel chuckled softly. "...always rebellious, aren't you?" He seemed to be. That was just him. She rested her head against his shoulder once more, still holding his hand. Just for tonight, she wanted to relax. She wanted to be happy. Just for tonight, she wanted everything to be okay. She wanted everything to be perfect. Just for tonight.
Saelhil grinned, leaning his head against hers and sighed happily. It was nice, just laying there. It was peaceful, and quiet. After a while of staring up at the sky, he closed his eyes, so at peace that he felt he could sleep right there.
Raeliel watched him as he seemed to fall asleep. She was quiet for a few long moments, letting him just sleep for a bit. Then she would slowly reach over and touch his face. Gently, carefully, so that he wouldn't wake up. Though, she didn't know that he was probably still awake. She trailed her finger along his cheek, and started tracing his facial features. His jaw, his lips, his forehead. It all drew her in. She leaned over him now, looking down at his face. She leaned down, slowly, and kissed his cheek.
Saelhil had been dozing, but her gentle touch made his skin tingle. He exhaled softly when she kissed him, but it could have easily passed off as a mid-dream sigh. So she was finally warming up to him... For this, he was glad and very happy.
Raeliel pulled away after the kiss and just sat up, looking up at the stars. "I don't know what to do around you." she murmured quietly, thinking him still asleep. "It's so easy to be honest, and that scares me, so I...can't. If I tell you what I want, how I feel...it's just a burden." She closed her eyes. "...Above everything else, I'm scared. I'm scared that some day, you'll turn into a lie too." She was quiet for a few moments. "If I just keep it in, if I stop burdening you...maybe you won't stop caring about me. Maybe if I just be that perfect wife, then you won't have to lie like Miralin..." She took in a shaky breath and lay down, but there was a little space beside them now. "I wish I wasn't married to you." she whispered. "If it wasn't you, I wouldn't be so scared...I wouldn't be so pathetic." She closed her eyes and stopped talking. She was talking to herself more to him. But he was asleep, so she could say these things aloud.
Saelhil felt his heart drop at her words. He had tried to show her that he didn't care what she said, or how she acted. He was his wife, so he wanted to make her happy. He wanted so badly to tell her that she would never be a burden, that he would never lie to her. But he couldn't. She would become even more closed up if she knew he had heard her innermost thoughts. So he did his best to continue pretending to sleep, now trying to decide how best to continue trying to show her his unconditional affection. He had seen how deeply Miralin's lie had affected her, and how that human had caused her so much stress. He didn't want any other man to do that to Raeliel, but he didn't know if she would ever fully trust him, as she had once trusted Miralin...
After a while, Raeliel nudged him gently. "...Saelhil. Saelhil, wake up...we should go to bed." She didn't want to sleep in bed alone, but it was getting a little chilly now with the night progressing so deeply. She was very gentle with waking him, and she brushed some hair from his face as well. "Sael...come on, let's go to bed." She stood up and would offer him a hand. "You missed some good stars, you know." She smiled slightly. "..but it's been a long day. Come on. We'll get to bed, and in the morning, I'll make us breakfast." Like a perfect wife would. Holding his hand, she went down with him to their bedroom. She climbed in to bed, curled up against him some, and would fall asleep probably sooner than he would. She was tired.
(Work now, I'll post when I can. Depends if the scanners are working or not as to how much I can do away from the computer I'll be posting, though it will be sporadic)
Saelhil awoke with little fanfare, following her downstairs, gripping her hand tightly. He was suddenly very worried, for some reason. As he lay in bed, now holding Raeliel close, he found he couldn't sleep. He was worried about his wife, and her expectations for herself. How could she expect herself to be perfect when he himself was anything but? He was childish, and impulsive, and he didn't know when to tell a lie to spare someone's feelings. To be honest, he didn't even want a perfect wife, as she had put it. He wanted someone who could be his best friend, who could be the embodiment of his love...someone he would take pride in being the mother of his children. He didn't want someone who thought they had to lie and put on an act in order to make him happy. How could he make her see these things without hurting her or making her feel insecure?
Raeliel slept in his arms, unconsciously cuddled up against him. He was warm, and he smelled good. It was nice to fall asleep to, and to stay asleep in. Her dreams were happy, peaceful dreams. Sometimes she moved around in her sleep, but it was always to snuggle closer to him. Completely unaware of her husband's troubled mind, she slept through the entire night. When she woke, she woke slowly. Her eyes fluttered open, then closed again. Then she yawned. She felt well-rested for the first time in a while. It must have been how she had let out all her feelings to him, even if he had been sleeping (or, so she thought).
Saelhil had dozed off sometime during the night, but even in his uneasiness he had slept very still with no dreams, but no nightmares either. He awoke just a few hours later, watching the sun rise outside the rundown, remaining in bed, while he waited for Raeliel to awaken. He noticed her beginning to wake up, and took a small breath. "Good morning," he greeted quietly.
Raeliel opened her eyes, only to find herself looking at him. Well, that was quite a sight to wake up to. She smiled a little and yawned again, covering her mouth as she did so. "Good morning..." She blinked, then woke up a bit more with her surprise. "Oh, have you been awake long? You should have woken me, Saelhil, I need to make breakfast." She got out of bed and took a quick bath, changing into fresh clothes. "Go ahead and bathe, breakfast will be ready when you're done!" She hurried downstairs to get it started.
Saelhil watched her leave, remaining quiet. He took a bath, lingering a bit longer than she had, before changing into new clothes and trotting downstairs. He had spent a good portion of the night wide-awake and thinking, but he wasn't tired. He was feeling uneasy now, watching Raeliel closely for any signs of forced happiness or anything of that nature. Was it strange of him, to care so much? After all, she was right... Husbands didn't have to care about their wives. As long as the women were respectful and obedient, the husband didn't really need to interact with them. Saelhil had never really understood why some societies just completely belittled women, making them think that they were merely servants for men to use. But now he had a wife from one of those societies, and he was beginning to realise that he would have to do something to change her view of herself... But what?
Raeliel had made well on her promise, and she was just setting everything on the table when he came down. She sat down with him and let him eat before she would start as well, eating quietly for a time before speaking. "Is there anything I can do to help prepare for our departure?" Yes, she was certainly being more formal with him, and she was offering her help much more than usual. Raeliel liked to help anyways, but she usually asked in a more casual manner, or just followed his lead. As soon as they were done eating, she took care of the dishes, washed them and put them away like usual.
"Mm? No, no. I've got everything under control." Saelhil watched her eat, then clean up without even giving him the chance to help. As she was cleaning, he went upstairs and began to pack their things, and make sure they couldn't leave anything there. He was tugging his hair back rather roughly (it had been a bit too damp to put up properly before breakfast, so he was just now fixing it). And as he watched himself in the mirror, he felt his stomach boil nervously. He felt guilty about Raeliel's hair; he really should have been there to prevent it, but there was nothing to do now. There was no sense in sacrificing his own hair if Raeliel insisted he didn't. But he still felt as if he had to do something to make it up to her... He shook his head slightly, deciding to think about what he could do about that later.
