Saelhil was vaguely awake when Raeliel got up. He moved around the bedroom slowly, and when he went downstairs, he found a plate of food set out for him, and no Raeliel to greet him. But he was feeling a bit ill in his stomach, and he couldn't even think about trying to eat, so he ended up sort of just sitting at the table for over an hour, contemplating what to do with the food. By then it was cold, and his apetite was long-gone, but he still couldn't bring himself to just throw the food away. But he also didn't want Raeliel to know he didn't eat. In the end, he just put the plate over the fire until the food turned to mush, then he sort of just tossed it out the back door; there were enough animals in the woods that it would be gone in less than half an hour. He cleaned the plate and put it away, then went out to walk through the village, and he obviously wasn't looking well, because it just so happened that Mirwen saw him, and had him come to her home so that she could talk with him and find out what was wrong.

(Back! Posting in just one min, moving comp downstairs)
Raeliel was on her way back when she spotted Saelhil going into Mirwen's house. Her stomach wrenched up and her heart dropped. She went right back to the house, feeling numb. Everything was wrong. What seemed to almost be a working relationship had suddenly been dashed upon the rocks. She started to pack. Marriage or no, treaty or no, she was leaving. She took off her ring and put it on the table. He could go off and marry Mirwen now, and do whatever he wished, and be happy with Mirwen. She...well, she didn't know what she would do. She couldn't go back home. Maybe she would just wander off until she came to a nice town that she could settle in for a bit. Raeliel found her eyes stinging with tears as she got her things together. If only it were two days ago, back at the beach. When things had been so...right. Now everything was wrong.
Mirwen and Saelhil had been talking a while, Saelhil oblivious to Raeliel's leaving. Mirwen was trying to find out what was wrong, why he was acting strange, but to no avail. Eventually, she got tired of asking him, and with a lingering glance, she let him get on with whatever he was doing. Saelhil left and headed home. He had no idea what he would do now; he had completely severed his and Raeliel's relationship. It was entirely his fault. If only he knew how she wanted him to act, if he could just know what she was thinking...
Raeliel was making sure everything was packed up of hers. And then she heard the door open. She couldn't believe she'd waited until he came home. If only she had been able to leave. But she still wished that she had the past few days. Saelhil would probably see the ring before anything else. The ring sitting on the table. Raeliel tried to get her things together so that she could possibly get out faster. She took in a shaky breath and let it out. She didn't want to face him. Not after he had been with Mirwen.
Saelhil walked by the table, but froze. He turned to it, and slowly picked up the ring. "Wha-..?" He glanced around. "...Raeliel...?" He felt his stomach sink when he realized what the ring could mean. "Raeliel?! Raeliel!" He ran upstairs, dread filling him. What if she had left? Where would she go? What if she got lost? What if she got hurt? Or killed? He felt sick at the thought.
Raeliel heard him coming up the stairs and she quickly turned her back to the door. "...Have fun with Mirwen?" There was a bitter tone to her voice. She couldn't hold it back any longer. "I'm leaving. We'll just keep the treaty and you can be with the woman whose company you obviously prefer." She took in a shaky breath. She couldn't look at him at all.
Saelhil froze when he heard her speak. She had seen him?...and after he had rejected her last night, she probably suspected the worse. What could he do to change her mind? As she said herself, women were fickle. And so, clutching the ring tightly in his fist, drawing in a shaky breath, he stood back. "...if...if that's what you want...I don't blame you..." He spoke slowly, eyes on the ground, voice a bit shaky. He had told her all along he wouldn't force her to do anything. He backed away a bit more, eyes shut. He didn't want to see her go.
Raeliel felt the tears sliding down her cheeks. "...I should never have made you lie to me back on the beach." Back on the beach when she made him tell her that he didn't love Mirwen. "If I hadn't pressured you to lie...." She took in a shaky breath. "I just can't make you live a lie anymore." She grabbed her bags and turned, walking past him quickly in hopes to avoid her tears being seen.
"I promised I would never lie to you... I haven't broken that promise," Saelhil murmured quietly, but he doubted she heard it, already half-way down the stairs.
{Walking the dog, brb!}
{Walking the dog, brb!}
(He did lie to her though when he said he was feeling okay! )
Raeliel went down the stairs and out the door, tears in her eyes. She started walking. Where was she going? She had no clue. She didn't even know what direction she was going in. But it didn't matter, she couldn't see anyways through the tears that blurred her vision. She walked as long as she could, unless she was stopped. She walked, and walked, until her legs wouldn't walk any more. And when that happened, she sat down and sobbed.

Saelhil backed up against the wall and slid down to the ground, trembling. The ring dropped to the floor, making a quiet metallic sound as it fell. He buried his face in his hands, not crying, but just sort of... shaking. What had he done...? Raeliel had been so determined to make their "marriage" work. She hadn't cared what he had done. He was uncivilized, and immature. She was elegant and stubborn and knew how to think things through. He played back their brief week of marriage in his head, and he realized he had actually broken both of his promises. One, he had lied to her just the night before, when he said he wouldn't. Two, he had hurt her, even more than Miralin had, and he had promise over and over again that he wouldn't let anyone do such a thing. He pulled his legs up to his chest, hiding his face in his knees now. his own ring seemed to burn against his skin under his shirt, mocking him and his poor decisions.

(*SOB* I lost my entire post because of stupid buttons)
Raeliel would soon cry herself to sleep. She was not the best traveler on her own, after all. Not too long after she fell asleep, she was woken by a familiar voice. "...Rae? Rae?? Rae, wake up!" Raeliel opened her eyes, staring groggily up into the face of... "Miralin..?" Miralin sighed. "Yes, it's me. What in the world are you doing out here, and why are you alone and asleep?! Do you know what could have happened to you if I was some shady character??" Raeliel rubbed her eyes, still waking up. "I could ask what you're doing here, too..." Miralin rolled his eyes. "I'm here to check on the marriage for your dad. He wanted to know how things were coming. I'm afraid to ask, seeing as how you've got your bags on you. Did they kick you out?"
Miralin stared as his words produced tears from the sleepy female. "N...no, they didn't...kick me out... I left." Raeliel sat up and hid her face in her hands. Miralin was surprised. Back home, she hardly ever cried. He frowned when he realized what she had said, though. "You WHAT?!" He grabbed her arm and pulled her to her feet. "What?! No, you have to get back there right now! Come on!" Raeliel shook her head. "No, no! You don't understand..." She took in a deep breath, and explained what had happened. Miralin was not satisfied, but obviously the two were having trouble. "...Alright. Come on." He had a plan. He had to make this marriage work. If he didn't, Raeliel's father would probably have his head!
So he marched back with her, walking all the way back to Saelhil's town. "SAELHIL!" he called out loudly. "Here's the deal, Saelhil! You can't just let a high-class elf wander around! She's got duties to uphold! Seeing as you're not going to keep her as your bride, would you be kind enough to lend us a horse? I'm the second to you in our town, so I guess that makes her my wife now. I don't have a horse to ride back with, and I'd be a bad husband to the people's eyes if I made her walk home."
Raeliel stared, horrified.

{Oh my gosh you poor soul ;;}
After a few moments, Saelhil appeared in the road, watching Miralin. Had Raeliel gone to get him? He clenched his jaw. "A shame she has to marry a dead man," he called weakly. "But I suppose even that's better than having someone she hates for a husband. If you were a true gentleman, though, you could have carried her home yourself instead of calling on someone else's horse."

Raeliel looked away when Saelhil came out. She tried to pull away from Miralin. "Let me go. I don't want to go home." He tightened his grip and pulled her closer to him. "You're coming home, Raeliel." He rolled his eyes at Saelhil. "Yeah, well, better a dead man than a pathetic one. Look at you. Your wife walks out and you just let her go. You're pitiful." He gripped Raeliel's wrist tighter and she winced, trying to tug away from him. "M-Miralin, you're hurting me..!"
"She'd be happier with anyone but me; why shouldn't I let her go?" Saelhil watched them uncomfortably. He didn't like watching anyone handle Raeliel so roughly, but he couldn't just swoop in and save her. His anger would just make him look foolish, since he let her leave in the first place.
Miralin didn't let go. "Well then, just give us the horse and I can get her out of your sight. Not as pretty anymore with her hair cut, is she?" Raeliel froze. It was as if he'd punched her in the stomach. Saelhil knew her hair was a very sensitive thing for her right now. "M...Miralin...l-let go. Please." Miralin glared at her. "Shut up! You're going home, and that's final! If you try pulling away even one more time--" He lifted his hand up threateningly to show her what would happen, and Raeliel flinched, tears quickly sliding down her cheeks.
Saelhil needed to see no more. His rage immediately flared up and he charged at Miralin with a furious growl. He ripped Miralin away from Raeliel and pushed the man with brutish, adrenaline-pumped strength. "If you so much as pinch her I swear to the gods you will die where you stand!" he snarled angrily. "I may not be the man she deserves, but Raeliel should never have to be with someone as idiotic as you!"
Raeliel gasped as she was suddenly freed and she fell to the ground, sitting on her rump. She watched as Miralin was shoved at. Miralin rolled his shoulders a bit. "Well it's either she's with me or she's with you. And since you don't want her, then I guess that leaves her to me. And as MY wife, I can do whatever I want with her!" He lifted his hands, curling them into fists. Raeliel felt nearly sick. "No!!" Miralin was a professional fighter. He could hurt Saelhil! Miralin threw a punch right at him, but suddenly Raeliel was there, right in front of him. What Saelhil may have been able to dodge, Raeliel took full-force. The punch knocked her to the ground. Miralin stared in shock. Even HE hadn't seen that coming. "Rae!"
Saelhil was in utter shock. After a moment though, pure instinct kicked in and he tackled Miralin to the ground, fighting to stay on top as he literally tried to kill Miralin by aiming various punches at his face and throat. Saelhil had never really fought anyone before, so of course he wasn't a good fighter, but his mind was in pure shock, watching Rae be punched straight on. His body just took over, and right now instinct told him that someone he loved had been threatened, and so he would do whatever it took to get rid of the threat.
