Raeliel was relieved when Thortharion denied Saelhil of going, but when he made the jab about common sense lacking with Saelhil, she frowned. But no words would come out. She wanted to explode, she wanted to tell him that Saelhil had more common sense than half the people in her town! But she couldn't. That deep, ingrained fear of authority kept her mouth closed. She looked away, ashamed that she couldn't stand up for her husband. The words boiled in her stomach, but wouldn't rise to her lips.

Saelhil sighed heavily, but squeezed Raeliel's hand, continuing to watch his father. "...yes, I apologize. I just wanted to help lead the people, since I will be chieftain someday."

"But that day is not today, Saelhil," Thortharion said firmly. "Someday you will be able to do what you think is best, but you need to learn to think things through." He stood and gestured towards the door. "I will send the party out in the morning. No need to worry yourselves during your party. Now go along." He shooed them out.

Raeliel just gave a bow of her head as farewell, and left with Saelhil. Well, her party mood was already ruined, so there was nothing that could be done about that. However, the emotions struggled to burst out, and she ended up pulling Saelhil aside, away from the eyes of people. Then she slapped him. After she slapped him, though, she caressed the injured cheek gently. "How could you do that to me? Sael, I nearly died hearing you volunteer like that! Volunteer to go talk to humans! This kind of situation...it's just...no! It's dangerous, no matter if there's back-up! Anything could happen!" She sniffled softly and rubbed at her eyes before tears could come. "Didn't it ever occur to you to talk that over with me first??"

Saelhil winced as she hit him, but listened to her words without any retaliation. "...no, I'm sorry," he said finally, once she was finished. "I wasn't thinking clearly." He looked at his shoes, not wanting to see her disappointed face. "I was hoping I could stop this war before it begins rather than sit at home and let it happen."

Raeliel felt selfish as she heard his reasoning, but still...She caressed his cheek gently, then pulled him into a hug. "It's not you alone who can save the village, Saelhil. Others can do just as well. Nobody wants a war started...everyone will do their best." She held him tightly. "I really don't want you to go to negotiations." She took in a soft, shaky breath. "It's another place where I wouldn't be able to be by your side..."

Saelhil sighed, quietly hugging her in return. "I'm sorry," he said once more, kissing the top of her head. "But I'm not going. We should just go and enjoy the party, hm?" He hugged her tightly. "I want everyone to see how beautiful you are." He smiled a bit.

Raeliel wondered if they really could enjoy the dance after this, but when he spoke of showing her off, she chuckled and smiled. "Thanks...yeah, let's go." She started walking with him, going over to where the dance was taking place. (Afk class)

Saelhil smiled at her and led her along. It was just a big potluck of food, and the band playing cheerful music. It was relief from the stress of the war.

Raeliel walked along with him, smiling as she began to hear the music playing. Did Saelhil really want to show her off? She felt a swell of happiness at being a wife who he could be proud of. She walked with him, arm-in-arm, and her smile grew as she saw the turn-out for the dance. Everyone looked like they were already having a great time, and things had just begun!

Saelhil watched the dance, as it was just ending. He glanced at Raeliel. "Feel up to the next dance?" He asked curiously, smiling at her.

Raeliel looked at him and smiled. "...yeah. Let's go for it." She chuckled softly and walked with him to the dance floor, blushing a little. Maybe she was still self-conscious about her short hair, but she felt like eyes were on them. She hoped it was her imagination. Raeliel found herself having a little bit of stage fright.

Saelhil smiled as the next dance began. "Alright... This one is mostly spinning. A lot of the songs are mimicking your partner, so just follow my lead, alright?" He waited a moment, the followed the others to begin the dance.

Raeliel smiled and took his hands. "Yes...I'm ready." She gave a nod and started dancing with him as the others did, following his lead. She wasn't too graceful the first time around, but she quickly started getting the hang of it, and all the spinning was fun with her flowy dress.

Saelhil was impressed how quickly she caught on. Soon Raeliel was twirling along as if she had been doing it her whole life. He watched her, taking in the spinning fabric of her dress and the way for short hair swished as she twirled around. He couldn't help but smile and be reminded again of how lucky he was to have such a beautiful wife.

(Babysitting done, homework for the rest of the night xD)

Raeliel was having the time of her life, really! She was surprised at how fun it was to dance around and twirl around, and to be held close in his arms. It was wonderful. As the dance ended, and slow music took its place, she moved a bit closer to him and blushed. "...shall we keep dancing, or should we take a break?"

{Yeah!}

"How about one more dance?" Saelhil suggested, pulling her close, as was the usual position for slow dancing. He smiled charmingly at her, noting her blush.

Raeliel took in a deep breath, noticing the scents that he had used from his last bath. He always smelled good, all the time. She watched him, her eyes locked on his for a few long moments as they danced so close together. It was so much more wonderful than when they had danced at the wedding. She wasn't afraid of getting close this time. In fact, she was drawn to him even more as she had been the last time they had danced.

Saelhil danced with her, effortlessly gliding among the other dancers. He twirled her around once, watching her dress spin out in a flourish, then he pulled her back in. He managed to sneak in a quick kiss, with a playful but loving smile at her. Something in the back of his mind nagged at him, making him nervous. What if this was one of his last days together with her?..no, that was preposterous. The war wouldn't escalate that quickly.

Raeliel blushed as he stole a kiss between the middle of the dance, but it made her smile happily. She would dance around with him, close and personal and happy. She rested her head on his shoulder, breathing in deeply. These were the moments she wished would last forever. The moments that would just stretch on and on and never end. Maybe they could just run away, back to the coast in that cozy little house with the star-gazing room. She sighed. She hated having to be responsible. It would have been so nice just to be there with Saelhil.

Unfortunately, after a while the dance came to an end. Saelhil slowed them to a stop, and smiled a bit, taking a breath. "Shall we go browse the buffet and take a bit of a break?"
