Raeliel listened to him, smiling softly. "Hmmm. Well, I don't need hundreds of mirrors if I just have you." She touched his cheek, then nuzzled into him. "It would be wonderful. We would go through the trres together, nothing would stop us."
Saelhil smiled at her. "Hopefully one day that will actually happen," he said, brushing some hair behind her ear. "What would you want, in a perfect life?"
Raeliel smiled softly as he brushed her hair with his fingers. She nuzzled against him as he turned the question on her. "Hmm...in a perfect life, we would be able to do everything together. I would help you with breakfast, with cleaning, with your duties as chieftain... We would always be together. Maybe, in that perfect life, you may not even be chieftain. Maybe we would live on the coast, in a cozy house, and a room to watch the stars. You would work in a nearby town, and you would love it. You would always come home happy and smiling, with fun stories to tell about your day. But you wouldn't be made to work too much, and we would get plenty of time to spend together." She kissed him softly. "..my perfect life would just be being with you always."
Saelhil smiled and closed his eyes, imagining it. "That sounds absolutely wonderful." He returned her kiss affectionately, continuing to thread his fingers through her hair. "Perhaps after this war, we can make that come true." He smiled at her gently.
Raeliel listened to him, and she smiled softly, nuzzling against him. "...that would be nice." She kissed him again, a soft, gentle, sweet kiss. She just wanted to be with him as much as she possibly could. It was so painful to think that he would be leaving soon, so she just stopped thinking about it. "Saelhil." She opened her eyes to look at him. "...if we do have a child some day, what would you want to name it? A boy's name and a girl's name. Have you ever thought about it?"
Saelhil closed his eyes briefly for the duration of the kiss, but looked at her as she asked him. "Names?" he repeated thoughtfully. "Well... I never really thought about having a son, but I always wanted to name my daughter Belathiel," he said quietly. "That was my mother's name. I think it's kind of pretty."
Raeliel listened to him and she smiled. That was unusual. Usually men wanted a son, a strapping young boy like they had been in their youth. "...it is a pretty name. If we have a daughter, one day, we will name her Belathiel." She touched his cheek. "It is a beautiful name, and I am sure your mother would be honored to have her grandchild named after her." She kissed his forehead, then his nose, both his cheeks, his chin, and finally, his lips.
Saelhil smiled, happily allowing her to kiss him all over his face, and once she was finished he kissed her forehead. "Mm. Thank you." He watched her for a few moments. "...what do you think you would be doing right now, had we never have gotten married? What do the women in your town do in times of war?" He couldn't help but be curious, as the women of his village sometimes fought alongside the men, but often the women stayed home (but they were all trained with some sort of weapon, be it a dagger or a bow) to protect the village while many of the men were away fighting.
Raeliel looked at him and sighed. "Well...I would be kept in the house. Possibly under guard, but most likely just having some of the other women making sure I was safe. I would help them with taking care of the children and elderly, and help prepare things for when the men returned." She sighed. "Women can't go to war. They aren't considered suitable fighters, and the risk is too high. If we get captured, we supposedly are more susceptible to revealing secrets during torture..." She looked away. It wasn't a pleasant thing to talk about.
"Absolutely no women are allowed to fight? What on earth happens if someone attacks the town while the men are away?" Saelhil scrunched his nose up in distaste. Sure, he wanted to keep Raeliel safe, but if it came down to it, he would want her beside him; he would trust her with his life.
Raeliel looked at him. "...well, then we're allowed to try and protect ourselves, but..." She sighed. "We're not allowed to go out into battle..." She leaned against him. "It's terrible, it really is. We're left so vulnerable..." (Sorry it's short, afk for food!)
"Do you even know how to use a weapon?" Saelhil asked, surprised. He thought that, even though her village didn't treat women very highly, they would at least know how to defend themselves, should the need arise.
(On for the next hour and a half, then I'll be on some more during work lol)
Raeliel nodded slightly. "..I do. I learned self-defense because I am the lord of the town's daughter. I don't know how many of the other women do, though. Because it's always thought that a woman's place is in the house, not out on the battlefield. Leave the hard work to the men, just sit quiet and raise kids and take care of the house." She frowned a little.
Saelhil nodded. "Good." He gently kissed her cheek. "Just in case anything happens, there's a dagger downstairs, hidden behind the fireplace," he told her quietly. They rarely ever used weapons, so of course most houses had hidden weapons, just in case of surprise attacks. "Has anyone told you where to go, should the village be ransacked?"
Raeliel didn't like talking so seriously. "..alright." As he questioned her, she nodded. "I learned of all those places today." She looked at him, sadly. "...will you be able to find us if that happens?" She reached up and touched his cheek. The last thing she wanted was to be separated from him just because the village gets attacked.
Saelhil nodded, then softly kissed her. When he pulled away, he smiled. "I'll come find you as soon as I can. I'll convince my father to let me stay with you." He rested his hand over hers. "If anything, I'll tell him that you and the others will need protection. But if you're here, he will think you're too safe to need anyone else."
Raeliel held his hand, returning that kiss happily. "Alright. Just...stay safe, Saelhil. No matter what, stay safe. Alright?" She was worried. Of course she was worried. She looked at him for a few moments, then leaned in to give him a soft kiss. After the kiss, she wrapped her arms around him and just held him, nuzzling close to him. Their last night together. She almost couldn't believe it.
"I will. Don't worry too much." Saelhil gently stroked her hair, nuzzling her forehead. "These are humans we're talking about. This will be over in no time, I'm sure."
Raeliel laughed softly. "Yes...they aren't the smartest of creatures. I'm sure the attack from above will take them completely by surprise. However, it is a one-time trick, so unfortunately it will only work the first time. Hopefully that will be enough, however." She leaned in and kissed him again gently. "...What should we do for our last night together before everything starts, Saelhil?"
Saelhil chuckled, and returned her kiss. "Whatever you would like. I will happily do anything with you." He entwined his fingers with her hair behind her ear, his thumb grazing her cheek gently.
