Raeliel listened to him. "...hmm. Well, we need to start with table manners." She rolled her eyes, but then answered seriously. "I'm...not quite sure. I think teaching him to use his senses will be first. He's already so good at that. He has sensitive hearing, maybe not as good as ours but probably pretty good. We can teach him to use that even more than he's already learned to on his own."

{Dx bye}
Saelhil nodded quietly. "...you know, up north, beyond the mountains, I heard that there was a village that breeds hawks. They're usually for hunting, but they're incredibly loyal, and I've even heard that they can be guides for deaf and blind people navigating the mountains... Perhaps if we could get him a guide like that, he could move more confidently, since it must be hard in the forest with so many roots on the ground and trees getting in the way."

(Ended up not having to work the extra hour! )
Raeliel listened to his suggestion and smiled. "That sounds like a great idea, Saelhil. It'd also give him a pet, a friend. I'm sure that would help him. But how would we get word up north with the war going on?" She sighed softly. Stupid war. It ruined everything.

"I... I don't know. And it's a few days ride there, anyways." Saelhil held her close, rubbing her arm, thinking. "I don't think this is a good time to just leave, so we may have to wait until after the war... But I really think he needs it now." He sighed heavily. "I don't know what to do."
Raeliel sighed softly as well and nodded. "...we'll figure it out. Don't worry." She smiled gently at him and kissed his cheek, then wrapped her arms around it. "For now...let's just relax. You've been through a lot, you need to give your mind a rest for now."
"Mm... Rest sounds good. Thank you." Saelhil kissed her forehead, and took a deep breath. "Everything is going to turn out fine. It absolutely has to..."
Raeliel nodded. "It will, my love. It will." She brushed her fingers through his hair and smiled, then watched him. She would let him sleep, if he felt tired enough to sleep. She herself felt...well, exhausted.
Saelhil indeed was tired, and soon he felt asleep, with her playing with his hair. He kept her close, sleeping peacefully with his lips parted just slightly.
Raeliel lay beside him for a while, then she went to check on everything. Once she was assured that all was well, she laid down beside him. Her eyes drifted shut, and she soon fell asleep right beside her husband. She was just as exhausted.
Soon morning came, and Saelhil awoke with the sun. He inhaled sharply, then exhaled slowly, his eyebrows coming together for a moment before he relaxed. He knew not whether Raeliel was already awake, for he was rather groggy that morning.
Raeliel was up, gone away to take care of things. She had a duty now, and she had to make sure it was carried out. She returned soon after he woke though, to check on him. She smiled as she saw him. "Hey, good morning. Are you hungry? They're serving breakfast now." She would help him get up, and help him get dressed as well if he needed it.
"Breakfast sounds delightful." Saelhil was glad for her helped, and he thanked her with a wonderful kiss before they had to go out in front of other people.
At the breakfast table, Talainna was, of course, talking to Valenthion, who seemed fairly tired of the girl, but he still replied when she asked him questions. Now that things were calmed down, it seemed that the boy really was a mix of human and elf. His hair was thick and a sandy blonde color, though his eyes were a dark brown. His skin was fair, like an elf's, but it was rougher to the touch. His ears were the most elf-like thing about him, besides that his face was a bit thinner and more pointed than the usual square-ish human head. And of course, he was more sturdily built than most elven boys his age, but not nearly as thick as some human boys.

Raeliel came downstairs with Saelhil and smiled. "Good morning Talainna, Valenthion. Talainna, haven't you given the poor boy a break at all?" She sighed softly and sat down. She made a mental note to send Talainna off on chores and give Valenthion some breathing space. "How did you both sleep?" She started eating breakfast, but subtly made sure that Valenthion was doing alright eating breakfast as well.
(Gotta get to bed, sorry! Today has been super busy x.x I'll post in the morning before church!)

{No worries! }
"Mm, morning!" Talainna smiled cheerfully. She giggled at Raeliel's comment.
"M'fine, thanks," Valenthion said slowly, rubbing his cheek for a moment before taking another bite of bread. He seemed to be faring just fine, picking at his food quietly.

Raeliel smiled a little. "Good, I'm glad." She looked over at Saelhil and git him everything he needed, then sat down to eat as well. "Talainna, would you be able to do some things for me after we eat?"
"Of course!" Talainna nodded happily. Valenthion was just kind of eating quietly, listening to everyone talk. Saelhil was watching Valenthion, studying the boy. He couldn't really imagine him being his son... But hopefully he would get to know Valenthion better, soon.
Raeliel finished eating and gave Talainna the list of chores that she wanted to be done. It wasn't too much, and it was all in the girl's capabilities, so Raeliel knew it would be fine. She smiled and watched the girl head off, then looked at Valenthion. "If you ever want time alone, or time away from her, just let me know, okay? She can be kind of clingy. She means well, but it's just how she is."
Valenthion glance up at Raeliel's voice. "It... She's fine," he said plainly. Honestly, it felt kind of nice to have someone that wanted to be around him so much; but he would never voice that, of course. The boy stood. "You don't... You don't happen to have a cane or a stick or something I can use, do you?...I lost mine in the woods, so I honestly have no sense of direction."
Raeliel got to her feet as well. "Oh, of course! Here, you stay here with Saelhil a moment, I'll go get you one." She smiled and hurried off, leaving Saelhil and Valenthion quite awkwardly alone. It'd be a few minutes before she returned, and handed him the staff. It was smooth wood, easy to grasp. "Here, let's check your height with it. I can cut off whatever's extra so it's suited just for you."
While she was away, Saelhil took the opportunity to talk with Valenthion.
"Are you an only child, Valenthion?" he asked, studying the boy. Valenthion glanced at him.
"No. My dad had three kids before he met my mom," he stated. "They all were old enough to move out before the war started."
"...and you were left alone?"
"Yeah." Valenthion sighed. "My dad said he was going to protect us from anyone who hide to hurt my mom and me, but when those stupid humans came..." He huffed. "Humans are cowards. My mom actually tried to defend herself, and my dad just let it happen." He glanced away, sighing.
"I know how it feels, to lose your mother."
"How could you? Humans didn't come and... and kill her." He seemed hesitant saying it. Saelhil stood up and went to Valenthion, briefly placing his hand on the boy's shoulder.
"My mother took in a sick human to nurse him back to health. After he left, she got sick, and so did a lot of my village. She was the only one that died of it."
Valenthion tensed up slightly, then glanced up at Saelhil. "..I'm sorry."
"Don't be." Saelhil waved his hand dismissively. Then, he smiled,though Valenthion couldn't see it. "Your father may be human, but your mother was an elf, so you don't have to identify yourself as a half-elf, if you don't want to. You're either an elf or you aren't; you just have to decide which parent you want to live like."
Valenthion was quiet as he took this in, and glanced up when Raeliel returned. He gripped the staff, holding it in both hands for a moment before tapping the floor lightly with it, to hear its sound. It was a little bit taller than him, but he seemed content with it.
