Raeliel didn't drink the water. She knew what was wrong now. There was no doubt about it. She nearly cursed. The timing couldn't be any worse. She couldn't tell Saelhil, he'd send her right back to the village and then they might never rescue their village, and he might get hurt. When she was able to settle her stomach, Raeliel kept running. This was going to be interesting.

It was about the afternoon when the mass of humans and elves paused for the humans to rest and replenish their water at a stream. Saelhil was now having to distance himself from them, not wanting to do anything too rash; it would be useless if he got captured. It wasn't long until Raeliel would join him, and he called her name softly to get her attention. "Raeliel... Raeliel. I got a good view... There isn't enough of our warriors here. There may be two groups, or the others may have been killed. I can't find my father; he may be kept somewhere separate, or..." He shook his head slightly.

Raeliel frowned. "They may have split into two groups to keep them from trying to rebel and break free. How many humans are there? If we can overtake them, we can leave a human or two alive to question until they tell us where the other group is at."

"Maybe ten or fifteen," Saelhil said, glancing towards the group. "I could perhaps take out five with my bow before they reach us... Are you well enough to fight?" Even as he spoke, he took his bow from his back and held it firmly.

"Yes." she lied. "And once we get some of them free, they can help fight." She pulled out her sword. "Get them from the trees. They won't be able to defend as easily against it, that way you might be able to get more than just five. I'll hold off as many as I can with the sword."

"Most look sick... But the humans seem to want them alive, so they aren't useless." Saelhil moved to get into the tree. "I'll start in just a minute. Keep yourself hidden until they get too close." And so he notched his arrow. After a moment of relaxing his grip, he loosed his arrow, sending it straight through a human's back. The man gripped his chest, choked once, and fell into the river. Of course, the others saw, and brandished their swords, looking around. Before they knew it, two, three, four more were picked off, and they spotted where Saelhil was. He continued shooting as they charged towards them, shouting in their harsh accents, spewing out curses and battle cries.

Raeliel dashed out from the shadows when they went towards Saelhil, and they didn't stand a chance as she came at them from behind, slicing three down. Then their attention was diverted, and Saelhil would be able to pick off more. Already between the two of them they'd killed eight, so the remaining seven shouldn't be too hard to get down. Hopefully.

Saelhil did manage to get two more before he dropped to the ground and plunged his dagger into the heart of another, ripping the blade out of the man's chest and kicking him back. Four left. He glanced them all over quickly, looking for any that may look weak-willed and would talk more easily.

Raeliel looked around carefully and noticed that one was hanging back a little. She smirked, glanced at Saelhil, and nodded towards the one man. She waited until Saelhil made a move to distract them, then took down another man with her sword.

Saelhil nodded in reply, then finished off the last two. Finally, he turned to face the remaining one.

Raeliel grabbed him and put her sword to his neck. He was younger, more of a fresh warrior, so he was perfect. "Where are the others?" she growled quietly. "Tell us or we'll kill you. If you help us out, we might just let you go."

The young man stared at her, eyes wide. He gulped a bit, seeming to weigh his options. "...they...they went ahead," he said. "There are too many of them for you to fight... Even if you managed to get these elves healthy enough to fight."

Raeliel frowned. "How far ahead?" She narrowed her eyes. She wanted to just cut off his head and throw it at the next human group to warn them of what was going to happen, but she managed to hold back. "Don't worry yourself on what we'll do or how we'll do it. Just answer."

"At least a day ahead." The man glanced at Saelhil, then back at Raeliel. "Through the mountain pass."

Raeliel looked at Saelhil. They would be heading right towards the other elves. Was it purposeful, or did they not know about mountain elves? "Why are they going through the mountains?" She turned back to the human, pressing the blade a little more against his neck to give him incentive to keep talking.

The young man's eyes widened a bit. "I-I don't know! I was just following orders. No one tells me anything. All I know is that they're heading for the mountains, to go further north."

"Well if they go any farther north than the mountains," Saelhil said to Raeliel, "they will hit orc* territory."

Raeliel frowned slightly and nodded. "Alright. Saelhil, get some of those ropes(or chains, whichever it was), for our friend here. We'll leave a note and let the others find him." She would tie the human to a tree, leaving a note on the bark about where they were going, and that the human should be knocked out and taken to a town. Then she looked at Saelhil. "You go on ahead. I'll help the others here. We should have the next group catching up to us soon."

"I don't want to leave you," Saelhil said, watching the human sit in silence. He sighed. "I know you can take care of yourself, but I don't want anything to happen. If I lost you..." He shook his head. "I'm not leaving without you. There could be other humans lurking about."

Raeliel frowned. "Saelhil we are going to lose them. And if both of us go then this group here could die. GO. I'll catch up as soon as the others get here." She felt her stomach churn suddenly and she had to turn away quickly and try not to gag. If she stayed with him then he'd be finding out soon what was wrong with her. "Saelhil, go. Or else I won't forgive you."

Saelhil's eyebrows furrowed slightly, and he clenched his jaw, but he nodded. He did kiss her forehead quickly before sprinting off, taking to the trees once more to move through the forest, though he knew that soon the cover of trees would disappear into flat, rolling plains, and he would be rather exposed. He pushed the thought aside and kept moving, determined to catch up to the humans, though he suddenly felt very lonely without Raeliel by his side.
