Oh dear god... Another suicide.
You love killing your characters, don't you?

No.
Not yet at least.
And I really do not, which is why this is all alternate verse and my characters still exist in the prime verse lol

Is it just me, or do those torpedoes sound a little overpowere? I mean... if I read that right the have two EMP weapons, an anti-armour molten titanium component, a nuke with EMP and mustard gas...
I mean, Terelains have double-layer adaptive shielding and ablative armour and AIs to handle the adaptive shield, point-defence and cyberwarfare...
Hmm... maybe not.

Theyll cancel each other out lol. Theres a reason why we dont have double EMP weapons.
That said, "Downfall" isnt over yet my ally
One of them's not even a pulse, but a beam, so I have no clue what to write about for the effects. Though Adaptive Shielding is specifically designed to counteract beam/energy weapons.
Even though they are "lightspeed weapons", Im assuming they still have a time on target.
I mean they are torpedoes, and if they tried to achieve speed of light, theyll break up, unless they are still in FTL which is not probable since it was stated they were launched in normal space. And the general fact torps are slow.
In any event, the fleet is jumping out the system.

That's what I was thinking. Most FTL works by just ignoring the laws of physics... to shoot such a large, complicated piece of machinery to near-lightspeed would be incredibly expensive and energy intensive. Not to mention if they hit anything on the way there, like grain of dust or something I'm pretty sure they'd blow up. I mean, micro-meteorites can do a heck of a lot of damage if they're travelling fast enough, and even they are nowhere near lightspeed.

And if they just so happen to hit intelligent micro-meteorites...
oh... chaff... I love smart chaff... it stops me going 'blooey'
Hm... maybe I should have put more anti-missile defences on my ships besides the pojnt-defence and the AIs...
Ah well, you live and learn.
Edit: Would th boil-off effect of my ablative armour help in any way to reduce the damage from the nuclear explosion? I mean, it'll release these reflective particle things desgined to reflect heat, and I suppose the ships would have a secondary hull layer to dissipate kinetic energy underneath...

Partially nuclear... I meant something like a FOAB... What's those things called again?
But yes, in real life, torpedoes are overpowered. I mean, with a 1000 pound torpedo, any ship was vulnerable.
Did I say light speed? I thought I didn't. It's... Ugh... Something like half of that.
But you guys want me to fix them up? I can.

Wouldn't they outpace the rest of your munitions?
Yeah. They would. But not my ISBMs. Those are FTL traveling missiles. Very expensive, can take out a planet if I wanted them to, but rarely used.
So, they'd be traveling much faster than everything else I fire. Unless its an Energy or Plasma weapon. Those are freaking fast.

I told you lol our primitiveness will either be our downfall or what keeps us in the game.
Particle beam weapons have quite the power requirement and thus cant do full on energy armaments (thought it been suggested) thus we make sure to have ballistics and projectiles. Hell even now, we're technically have a metal shrapnel shield protecting us with all the flak the Coalition ships are throwing out. And the missile storage are usually made with having 2x the capacity, so that they can be used to throw out defensive ones.

Terelain defenses have been the same throughout history, the exact same principles that they used building their ancient fortress-cities protecting their homeland are used in the design of their ships.
It's all about redundancy and layers; the ships have about three layers of defense; first you have the AI cyberwarfare suite and point-defense weaponry and the fighter/bomber/drone screen. These take out incoming craft, missiles and basically anything that's too fast or too small to hit with the big guns.
The next layer is the shields; an upper layer of powerful adaptive shieding protects against energy and ballistic weapons, deflecting solid ballistics so that they don't drain the shields too badly and negating beam and directed energy weapons by concentrating the power of the shields at the exact point of bisection, changing the sield's configuration at that point to better absorb or dissipate the energy.
Beneath all that is the armoured hull itself, with an upper layer of ablative armour that boils off to scatter and dissipate heat and energy weaonry and an underlayer of armour designed to actually absorb and distribute kinetic impacts.
The main weakeness in Terelain defenses is how energy-intensive their defences can be, and how much computational power they can tie up. Utilising a large number of dfferent weapons and saturating the vessel with fire is the best way to take it down.
It's also why all Terelan ships have an AI - it can keep fighting even if the crew are killed or disabled, it is also why there are multiple AIs aboard capital and Titan class vessels - not only do they handle the sheer amount of data that such vessels need to function, but they also act as back-ups, so that you have to take both down, or all three in the flagship's case.

That does sound energy intensive.
For the Coalition, its pretty simple it terms of the layers of defense:
Fighter/Bomber screen > Flak Screen > EM Plasma Shields > Laser Clusters > Armoured Hull
As far as ECM/ECCM/cyberwarefare thats a must and active no matter.
AIs are pretty much nonexistent with the Coalition, with maybe the exception of Liala when she integrates with a ship. But thats more imprinting personalities, and the fact that Liala is sort of a cybernetic being herself and pretty much the only, she is however considered more human than machine.

I figured that llol
AI technology is very wide-spread within the Kingdom. AIs have completely equal rights as sapient entities/beings/persons. Generally they're utilised in economics, station and habitat administration and all sorts of roles where a vast amount of data needs to be proccessed quickly and efficiently.
It actually took a hile for them to be accepted though, motly because no one was sure where to fit them in the rather complicated socio-political system of the Kingdom... since they wouldn't belong to any Bloodline or be obligated to any family or House.
In the end, the matter was resolved by the 'Doctrine of Intellectual Descent' meaning that AIs are considered part of the 'Bloodline' of the person who designed them, or the perso who designed the AI that designed them etc. Either that, or often with the role they were created for, so that military AIs are considered 'Moralinri' or economic AIs as 'Rishael'.
As for the energy intensive bit... well, Terelains have been spacefaring for over sixteen thousand years. Their power generation technologies are very powerful, mostly cold-fusion in the case of starships, supplemented by Aetheric Energy from the Aetheric Crystals they have on board.

Yeah....AIs arent looked upon too well after an incident that saw to one nearly crushing all life.
And the fact, they are seen as too costly for operation. You can get nearly same level of response from several networked computers, than an AI...without..."baggage."

Wow... You guys got a helluva lotta defenses... I don't know what mine are, but I'm gonna guess...
Bombers/Fighters/Drones/EMP burst if there is one-->FLaK/Extra-->First Void Shield-->Second Void Shield-->Warp Shield/Psychic/Energy Shield-->Adamant/Titanium mixture armor/Kevlar/DU/Kevlar/Steel-Titanium-Adamnt mixture.
As for AIs? I have AIs mixed with human computers. Very complicated, but it creates a nearly impossible computer to crack.
Also, I'd appreciate it if, instead of doing this for two hours, someone actually type up a response...

Just to clarify before I post... you said the torpedoes had a double EMP weapon for penetrating the shields... is that the beam and a pulse or what?
