" You did what!?" He roared, whipping his tail towards Shinigami. It hovered before his face until the light of the heart faded from its cold metal. Vaulkar had closed his hand around the heart as he sat upright. " Fool boy. Be grateful it was I you did that too..." He drew his own blood and strung it out in the air before him. It scattered within red mana when touched and took the shape of DNA.

" Hide the heart in a blank dimension? You speak of a void" The DNA strand was turned and adjusted as he looked for the damaged strain. " I will keep the heart here until she can perform such magic again. You may be given the key to the realm...guardian"

The damage was finally located. He touched the spot and it lit up, healing the solidified portion. " Yes, I agree. I have tasted that demon's power in the past" Once the blood returned to his body, The wing membrane receded and his hide appeared to burn away. " I will not allow her to suffer the same torment"

He watched the chain form. Rage he dared not trust and kept the heart close. " Make the heart immortal? You are a mortal yourself. It shall be amusing to see"

Returning to his blood form, Vaulkar vanished into the darkness. " Bring your own friends and we'll show you what part of our job we truly love. We'll make it a game and the price will be just a vial of blood from each of you"

A fresh set of covers was being put on the bed when he returned. Kuroi, well wrapped in the bandage, clung to a bedpost while waiting. The covers were dropped when Averin heard the question. " My lady is weak from the lack of blood I'm afraid. The boy is awake and causing trouble already. I believe he's begging Nasr for some new tricks..."

The covers were smoothed out before he helped Kuroi back to the bed. She sat down and waved her hand and Averin. " I'll rest soon..." Lifting her head, she held a solemn look. " Yuuma is still asleep...We have no idea when he shall wake"

" Nor will we know when you'll wake if you don't rest" He lifted her coat and carefully draped it over her shoulders.
She chuckled and looked to the carvings in the ceiling. " I'm immortal. I shall be fine"

Well it's one thing to be fine and it's another to be sick. Being immortal doesn't make you perfect, you still need to sleep. You should rest. We will take care of Yuuma and tell him the news", he said as the board went went to him and he began writing on it, "the luminary that attacked us let us go for a reason. She's not a fighter I think. She has plans, making her very dangerous. She's not like the rest, she is but special", he said standing up and began to draw on the board a barrier circle, "this spell will probably make me pass out so I will be quick with it", he said activating the spell and a wife barrier appeared around the town covering the town to the top. At the bottom was a circle that flowed brightly then became invisible, "guess I wasn't going to pass out then. More time to work", he said taking out his notebook and opened to the last page

She crossed her wrists across her lap and lifted her head in pride. The earlier conversation kept her from arguing. " You targeted a primary city this time. More skilled Luminaries would be put in charge"

While he drew on the board, she struggled to her feet. A step forward nearly dropped her but a ghostly hand held her up. " Your stubbornness never ends"

" Just this once...he shall need his bed...should he pass out..." The way she slumped over Averin's hand gave the appearance of some evil specter. She lifted her head when the spell was activated. Its light burned at her brain. When it ended was the one to drop.

Averin picked her up and placed her back on the bed. " Ever for others and never yourself, my lady...He is fine" He had placed her so she could watch. Strength obtained through the hell, it made her smile. " You wouldn't wake...while I'm hurt...tell me how that...works..." The light faded from her eyes as she drifted off to sleep.

" Well now!" he said turning back around. " What else are you planning with this spell?"

There are two parts to it. One defends the other attavks. The barrier protects while the circle let's you create mans beings that attack enemies that enter. Created it myself so I'm not sure how strong it is", he said as he bagan another spell, "so you didn't tell me about the heart. Very not cool in your part. What else do we have to worry about so no more surprises"

His focused shifted to Shinigami when he mentioned the heart. " Even you don't desire your weaknesses to be known" What other secrets could prove a problem? He stared out the door as he thought about it. " I believe your Valra friend has already found one, that book he had. If you recall he said no word could be read. He's right for its written in a language not of this world. The odds of someone translating them are very slim"

He began writing in the last page where it was black and swallowed all colors, "done", he said then closed the hook, " not good enough"

Obtain the book? Surely he remembered Kuroi's rampage earlier. " What could you offer that would be worth her fury?" The chandelier tipped when Averin looked over the bed towards her. " She may be asleep now, first in so long, but a blizzard awaits when she finds the book gone"

The crystals on the chandelier sang when he turned to Shinigami. " What's not good enough?"

Her being immoral, she can still die", he said putting he book away, "how about I make her immortal fully", he said looking away from the board and showed him what he had been drawing. It was a circle and at its cabter was a heart, "I need that spell"

" A mortal offering a god full immortality?" He scoffed. " How do you..." Even without the knowledge of magic Shinigami and Kuroi had; the circle gave off a presence unlike most. He sighed and closed his eyes. " You won't find spells within the book. Magic and plenty more but no spells"

Memories of the boy she had granted immortality to flooded his mind as he stood. So much power was needed for what she had done. Could a simple circle take it all? " Very well. The only thing you have to lose what hides in the book. She has eternity" the cold breeze rushed out the door and scattered loose pages.

Ok then", he said standing up then fell to one kneel. He stood up quickly and dusted his kneel, "one thing about that spell is it needs a power source. I've given it enough for a month", he said then looked to where averin was, "so where can I find the spell. She doesn't have long"

He became as a shadow, making him visible, with the weight of what was said. " Immortality is not something to be taken lightly. The spell sleeps before you" He said removing the pendant off her neck. " Do you not agree that magic is best left unrecorded?"

The pendant was held out before Shinigami. Its silver danced with an unknown power. "This is apart of the spell. How much time do you believe she has?"

Not long if someone finds out about it", he said looking at it, "all because her parents couldn't do one job right", he said looking up straight, "there's a way", he said as the board came to him, "thanks tobi", he said as he bagan to draw a soul binding circle one the board then erased parts of it then added what he needed in the spaces, "be glad my speciality is soul magic. I found a way for her to live even if her heart is killed", he said then sat down, "we link her to a someone. Their heart will keep hers beating even when damaged and will provide it the power to heal itself again. So she can die but she will never be gone", he said looking at averin with a smile, "ok then, I need to know if there will be a problem"

" A shared heart and soul?" The shadow parted to reveal a smile as he looked over the spell. " Who will you bind her too? A ghost would be futile since we have no hearts" He spread his wings to each wall to expose his chest of empty shadows.

The smile given made Averin chuckle. A hazy claw reached up to touch Shinigami over his heart. " Or have you made that choice already...guardian" He rested his hand on the ground and sat up. " Whoever you bind her too consider the risks. Will they share pain, strengths, weaknesses? If either is hurt will the other bare an extra burden until the one has healed?"

Well I won't feel a thing", he said then harmed and stood up, "let's do it now then. Oh should we find out if it all works yet but no need", he said making a portal, "since she's sleeping in my room i will go to hers"

" Her room!?" His tail swung through the portal to no avail. It was a bitter reminder that spirits could only do so much. He looked over at Kuroi and sighed. She had always known time was running short. " Very well...you...have your reasons" He stood up and floated through the portal with his head down.

The care given to her guests and books she denied herself. What she deemed a room was enormous but a ruin. The only light came from one wall which was destroyed, allowing wind and rain inside. A ledge, perfect for sitting on, reached out into the air from this hole.

Tucked away from the elements, in the darkness, was a dry and clean area. No bed was to be seen in this place filled with rune carved crystals, blood vials, and many other magic related items. Notes carved into the floor and walls resembled something of a madman's rumblings. If one took the time to sort through them they would find thoughts and experiments. Some notes held claw marks through them leaving few words visible. Imperfection, trials, echoes of things she sought to forget, and echoes of things she desired to find all resided here.
