Whatever plans he kept hidden had to be worth something. " The tribal Nyctorans are the prey. You did say you wanted to give all a chance to follow you. This does mean even they must face the scrutiny of the inspections"

Fear's shadow rushed back in the moment the front doors were opened. He shrieked in protest as he returned to the ring. " Soon, my brother...I hope" Light reflected off Greed's hair in a blinding way as he strode the stairs. " Many cities await. I suggest we get moving"


" If he has a specific location in mind, I would say no" She answered while taking the arrow. So much power in one paper, it was incredible. " At a guess I believe the Beast Continent"

" I know he said out of continent" Travis said stepping closer. " But we can't just swim across the ocean. The distance is bad enough but the Levias will tear us limb from limb for being in their territory"

She gave him a stern look and lowered the arrow. " I taught you better than that. You're smarter than that too"

" Hurry it up with the destruction already! I would be tearing some fool apart by now if I was in that Valra" Rage growled. He didn't want to think of the promises kept. Good or bad he had felt one too many dished out. The fire that burned from wanting revenge prevented him from paying more attention.

Fear looked about at the crowd strung through the streets. A feast of fears and worries that would leave him contented for ages. " All but...the humans have...magic" A shadow stretched out towards a Varvatra. Sensing something, the woman turned around but found nothing.

Seeing the gleaming demon and 'Sonne', the crowd stepped aside and bowed. A path was opened up for them which led to where the first inspections were made, at the clinic within the plant element. Those of 16 yrs of age and under were nervous as they had yet to be tested a second time for perfection.



" I'm aware of the arrow goes" She said stepping closer. " I've been making sure he doesn't run off" Light gathered in her hand until a tiny scroll of lunar parchment appeared. It was offered to Tobi. " Make sure Shinigami gets this. The army will be only so strong. Imperfections in the cities are still kids"

By now Travis had slunk his way down another ally. He pulled another human off the ground and directed them out before using his knowledge of magic to fade into the shadows.

A single human running off was no problem but the absence felt made Kuroi look past Tobi. Missing, but the alleys would hide him. The chill inside told her otherwise. " I'll have somewhere safe for them..." A chain would be put on Travis if needed but the job could still be finished on her own.

Toni took te patchmebt and wt trough the portal and gave it to him without anyone noticing. Shinigami took the patchment and hid it in his skin with the stone, "don't tell me we have to...I fell like the answer is a yes so why bother asking", he said following greed, "so tell me what imperfections you crazy perfectionist are looking for"

Tobi possessed pavol again and made his way back to him

" Best you keep a list" A strip of gold was pulled from Greed's pocket. On it was written extensive info on what resulted in the culling of an individual. General flaws that accounted for every race included being over weight, having an incurable illness, blemishes, scars, and gender specific parts being off in some way. One he would surely overlook.

It continued on with race specific flaws. Eye, hair, horn, and colors could easily rat out those for culling. Heights needed to be within a set range for the appropriate race and so did build. Powerful builds like Kerberol were forbidden from being delicate in appearance but couldn't be too massive. Finer races like the Varvatra or Raixi could not have stocky builds. Horn length and shape was determined for every horned race while finned races were judged by the length, fullness, and structure of their fins. Depending on the race, one could be culled for appearing too masculine or feminine. On average, one third to a half of the young were eliminated with this trial alone.

Oh you really expect me to do all this", he said looking at the lists. Anyway as promised give me the ones you don't want. If they live and die is no longer in your hands. The ones that pass will keep living with you all. Ok, greed pick them out and don't hurt them", he said giving the list to him, "the inspection starts now. Really greed I'm pretty sure you're the jealous one. Fear you can go find Nasr now. Find out where he is and tell us"

Much of the crowd scattered when Fear fled 'Sonne's' side. Their fright made him laugh. It was the scare of the first inspection he truly wanted to witness though.

" I am jealous?" Greed said with a twisted grin. " I desire the world and all it's treasures why would I be jealous when I hold it my very hand" He held it out in a claw shape then turned to sort through the Nyctorans.

Having done this many times before, many were sent to Shinigami in record time. With younger ones being subjected to the trials so soon even toddlers were pulled for rejection. Those of 16 were sent inside for the more questionable portion.



During this time, Kuroi had drawn the bow and aimed it carefully towards the crystal city. A second arrow with a copy of the spell rested at her feet. They had yet to reach the electric city either. When her sights were perfect, she let it fly. Any other arrow would have bounced off the tower but this one sank deep, cracking it partially down the side.


Finding Nasr was simple for the demon with fear of his death. His room was swallowed in darkness and the dark fire around him was in danger of being controlled by Fear. " Give him...to me" The demon demanded as it crept from the darkness. Its jaw rattled in a demented kind of laughter.

Drained and weary, Inei lifted her head to meet the gaze of Fear. " For you to wear him as a skin? No. Now begone before I strike you down!" A challenge? Fear rapidly rose up and charged her, shrieking like a banshee. Her flames were extinguished, leaving them in the chilly darkness.


The number of rejects grew as the hours ticked by. Soon, the first portion of the trial would be finished. For all the silence Fear held, a green flame appeared before Shinigami. It's message relayed directly to his mind. " Nasr...has been under...the care of...the she-bird" The flame faded to reveal Greed escorting the last reject out, a troubled youth of a wind griffin dream form. His only flaw was his throat was a plum color instead of a vibrant red.

How do you..ha. Fear thanks for the info get back here. I need you to control this much people", he said standing up to face the rejects, "well you failed the first time. The next time there's none", he said with a smile, "well I'm going to send you somewhere. Somewhere, well you describe it yourself. The mines, the pits and the waste. That's where you belong now", he said as a light magic spell appeared and swallowed them all. It took them to a temporal space where there was nothing and their minds were frozen

To the rest. Good of you to pass", he said then looked to greed, "tell them what to do next"

" Nasr is...dying without the...darkness" Fear laughed before vanishing from the room. Inei was left lying next to Nasr, lost in her own nightmares. Without her dark fires his time grew short.

Many of the rejects dropped their heads or copped an attitude moments before they were whisked away. Surely death was more merciful than slavery.

With the streets cleared so rapidly of the rejects, Greed held himself with pride. His shining jewels of life were being polished to a form worth keeping in his hoard. " You know the rules! The trials of physical ability is next. The youngest of children are exempt from this portion. Now, all of you to the arena!" He held his hand in the direction of the fire element.

Everyone moved as one past them. Filtering down the streets in a mix of emotions. Within the crowd hid a familiar face, the purple Raixi who had survived from the failed raid on the Cotricikals. She passed by 'Sonne' unaware that Shinigami was the one inside the goddess' body.

It's very obvious he prefers people around him to look less and be less than him. Wanna et most of their categories he denied are things he couldn't have", he said to Tobi

Oh its very obvious. I don't even know if he's hiding it but let's see what's going on", Tobi replied, "so what are you going to do about the hunt. You know they will go after valras", Tobi replied

Valras. More reason to go", he replied

The Nyctorans filled the edges of the arena while those in charge used magic to prepare the various courses and challenges. Some were race specific such as flying, underwater trials, and even lava challenges but many were general.

Once Greed set foot into the place, he started sorting everyone by race. Those too young to participate were handed off to those who were deemed perfect within the past few days. They were sorted into competing groups then brought out to begin the trials.

With everything ready, Greed turned to face Shinigami. " Even you can pick out the rejects here. Obstacle courses are judged by time and performance. Those who are two slow or falter are rejected. Battles are determined by performance and victory. One can lose but show incredible talent. They are accepted. Races are determined by speed and performance. Those who fail to meet the mark are culled but so are those who stumble or hold an odd gait or flight pattern"

Raising a hand, he began to patrol the arena. Each competitor nervously watched for the signal to begin. " Most importantly...heed their breathing and heartbeats. Those who wheeze are culled and so are those who clutch at their hearts or collapse" He cast a cruel gaze over the crowd.

Every year varied how many were eliminated here. With prized tribal blood being dragged in, he hoped the numbers would be small. The city of light was massive though, and many families were still pure enough that genetic weaknesses could potentially remove another one fourth to one third.

UT would be faster to kill them all won't it", he said signing, "ok then start the competition. Once again you're in charge"

You just do t want to do anything", Tobi said

" Getting lazy in your old age, my lady?" He sneered. For Sonne, it was a morbid delight to pick out the imperfect ones. He turned to face the others and dropped his hand. Every competitor sprung to life instantly. Speed, agility, and power were put on fully display and even revealing sides to certain races one would never know of in the cities.

For all their power, Kerberol displayed amazing speed and dainty Solxienix showed a violent side fit to rival Rage. The elimations were slower due the nature of the trial, allowing the sun to dip.


More time, more moved, and one more city. Once again Kuroi took aim at a city, the city of lightning. A true risk with the nature of it's element and residents. When the arrow was loosed. A violent storm raged across the sky, stretching far and wide. The arrow was struck down and denied it's place.


The lightning reached across the entire continent; darkening the sky with dark clouds. Many contestants, even Greed, looked to the sky as the light show and its roar spoke of the slight made against the city. " Well, well...someone has been busy. Good thing she had them work overtime" He said softly.

By the time the second portion of the trial was over, the sun was setting. The final reject was dragged over to the others. One of the Caladrius dream form. Though she held stunning beauty, her tendons were too weak and were damaged in the trial.

Well they would make for....I don't know just", he said and used the spell again to put them in the space as the last time. Frozen with no idea what was happening to them, "greed lets take care of the rest quickly. Your brother is getting tired of waiting"

Te spell went to their places and created a magic circle that disappeared

It's done", Tobi said

Shinigami gave a smile, "very soon guys. Very soon"

Careful consideration was taken as Greed pondered over how to speed things up. The last trial was final for a reason. He chuckled and began walking towards the exit. " Very well then. I believe we can forgo the final trial for now, the trial of magic. None are culled but their place in society is determined"

He stopped by an arena master. " Get everyone home. The High Luminary will determine their stations later" The arena master nodded and ran past him to get started. " With that cast aside, you should join the hunts. Every tribal captured will be judged by appearance and their will to assimilate. Those who are imperfect or refuse to bend knee will be slain"

Slain. OH I thought we agreed on making them useful by which we mean giving them to me", he said eyeing greed

They're demons. You expect them to keep their end", Tobi said using pavol's voice like he did before


"Well thought they would have done pride. Seeing how he destroy those with what he can't have im not so surprised. Anyway tell them to make a spell enough to bright to the night sky. Those who can't fail. It's not to late so they have time to rest and no excuse if they fail", he said walking down to te arena edge, "rage do you want to hunt. Promise not to kill them they're useful after all"

" You are funny" Greed said raising his head. " What good are the tribals to you if they won't bow to you? Even under forced labor those who refuse to assimilate will not do as their told. The imperfect ones who will obey..." He inhaled and held a prideful light in his eyes. " They will serve wherever you put them"

His gaze grew cold with the trial given. The scales were far too unbalanced for the demon's liking. " Trying only the most powerful of the elements? I will hand out others for not every element is capable of producing light" Dragon teeth showed as he turned away.

While Greed returned to the center of the arena, Rage manifested next to Shinigami. He peeled his lips back to reveal a molten smile highlighting dark teeth. " You and your pathetic mercy. Be happy the hunt is designed to capture"

Now in the center, Greed raised his hands. " The final trial will be held here this time. Light producing elements are expected to light the sky. Elements incapable of producing light...I expect you to touch the sky. Infants are the only ones exempt from this trial" They were motioned to step into the center as he backed out.

One by one they made their attempts. Every Nyctoran of the day, night, electric, crystal and light elements were able to light the sky with ease. Even the young ones, though some barely obtaining it, made the goal. Fire and magma with the limited range of their light had a harder time. Nearly one half of those elements failed.

The elements that could not produce light got creative. Stone, metal, and plant created massive spires that vanished into the clouds. Many of the young children struggled to touch the clouds and were rejected.
Wind elements displayed their power with towering tornadoes. They were judged by the control they held. If a twister got out of hand, they were rejected.
Water elements produced geysers to touch the sky. One third were rejected due to the hot plumes failing to reach the clouds.
Three fourths of the soil element was rejected. Dirt was never meant to touch the sky without the aid of other elements. Some even passed out from exerting so much mana.

Touch they sky. Come on. You really have them believing that they can't do it. Well those who failed come to me", he said waving to them

Are we killing them", Tobi asked

It would be rude to. Better to use them as batteries. Nene rail refining need mana to work you know", he said smiling

The ones that had passed out were carried or dragged over to him by those who had failed and were still standing. Each one waited with heads down and bated breath for whatever fate they would face.

The had vanished completely now to reveal the diamond dusted sky. With the trials completed, Greed dismissed the perfect ones then returned to Shinigami. " Night is perfect for starting the hunts. Dark tribes will be active now"

Ha. Ok then", he said as the spell appeared again and took them to the silent realm( what I decided to call it)

Why doesn't he admit that he hates those with what he doesn't have", Tobi said

He's.a demon embodiment of greed. Of course he won't admit it", he replied walking back where they came from, then opened a portal to donned room, "anyway I'm tired and wants to rest so let's do this hunt quickly. If I postpone it then they will get suspicious"
