Snow blankets the lands as winter rages on. Bleak skies and cutting winds, not to mention the difficulty in getting food meant most birds would have migrated far south, to the warmer kingdoms.

Which was one of the many things that made the crow, cawing loudly in the middle of a snow-covered field, so strange. “Many things” because this was not the usual size of a crow, perhaps more like a medium sized cat. Could be mistaken for a raven, if you didn’t know your bird types well enough. And again, besides of the faint glow underneath the bird that signaled some kind of light source within.

It cawed loudly, hoping to catch the eye of a curious passerby, bouncing around before picking at a hand, nearly buried in the snow.

—————

After finding a stranger buried in the snow on the outskirts of a small town (somehow not crippled by hypothermia, a slightly jarring fact), you come to find he is a traveling merchant. A worshipper of the old gods, he claims his pacifist nature leaves him open to attacks on bandits- and his status as a famous potter means he’s quite the target.

And despite hardly knowing you, the stranger suddenly presses that you must be his escort- assuring you’re paid well, and claiming he has a very valuable item that must be delivered safely to the hands of the royal advisor in the capitol of the Kingdom.

Of course, there’s more danger than the stranger is open to admitting- but you’ll find that out soon enough, won’t you?

————

Seeking 1-3 players for this little prompt- I decided to start with something a little smaller as I inch my way back into serious literate role play.

If you want it to just be 1 on 1, dm me. Otherwise, just comment below.

Open to most positions- be it a traveling band to escort Regis, a mercenary overhearing and deciding they want in, or even rogues and thieves sent to hunt to treasure. The more the merrier! Just let me know what you’ve got in mind.
Magic 70%
Magic is fairly common. Players and NPCs important to the tale may have it. Mistborn.
Technology 20%
Iron age
Combat 50%
Combat is expected as part of the storyline but it won't dominate the plot.
Romance 30%
Some romance is possible, but the overall plot is more important.

Details: Freeform, adjustable length posts, Will be played with a small group of players.

Hey! Long time no see! Hope you've been well.

If you'd be up for it, would you mind me tossing Rick or Kekoa into this? Either of them would be more than happy to help a stranger on the road, and be willing to stick with them even if things took a turn for the weird and/or dangerous!
Oh my gosh! You are back!

Put me down for whatever positions need filling in :)

I got a few new characters to throw at it like Simon the ruthless tax collector?

I mean Regis is a merchant, a renowned merchant, and we all have to pay dues.

Nobody can avoid death and taxes, right?

It’s been a while for sure haha! Life’s been rough but it’s nothing I can’t overcome.

And I would be absolutely THRILLED to have either one join in!

I’m back! :)

And I think that’d be QUITE an addition to the story for sure! Given Regis’s antisocial nature, I imagine he’d skip out on taxes a few too many times purely out of a loathing for the interaction with Simon that would result.
Hoooooo man am I glad to have checked Rpr today, it's not often I'm on here.

Count me the hell in, I may be on a different account (was kaleidoscope), but it's been way too long since I've rped with you lot. Still need to figure out which of my characters to go for, but I have a few in mind.
He comes with Sir Pentre in tail. The let's say the 'persuasive' corrupted lord knight that accompanies him to make sure citizens pay up or get locked up by the end of the journey, if they are still alive ;)

Oh man, with Theo in tow this is really looking like a stellar bunch! The whole gang is here! I’m already imagining how uncomfortable Regis is going to be with all these people, this is gonna be a wild ride for sure.
I'm feeling so nostalgic now, getting the old band back together. I really missed you lot.
Is there room for 1 more? <.<

Perhaps one of these?
  • Rivka - a goblin healer/shaman who talks to the spirits of her ancestors. She's a bit cowardly and I'm not sure if I'd trust her to be the one left to guard something valuable that could be easily slipped into a pocket, but she's not evil and would like to endear herself to a group of adventurers.
  • Dulirn - a human wizard with an odd sidekick. Originally created to be antagonist, he's fun to play in his early days, before he went too far down a dark road. His magic can be ... a bit unreliable. (i.e. roll the dice and see if things backfire spectacularly!)
  • Peasants - Glenn, Emma, Olivia, & Sohn are your every day, fairly average humans. But they are young enough to be hungry for an adventure. (And if the story calls for killing off a character or two... well, one of these may be a good candidate)

Feeling is mutual Kaleido, welcome back too

So totally!
Oh gosh Rivka!

The ever so helpful and cowardly wannabe healer who messes up 8 of 10 times

She is so gonna wear Pentre's patience thin with her excessively wanna help attitude that often just makes things worse... When magic fails/backfires

Throw into the mix that Simon is extremely superstitious

"Now, now, Pentre, do as she asks, we don't want to be angering her spirits, do we?"

What a crazy combo before we even start!

I would LOVE to have you on board! Regis himself is a believer of a very obscure religious belief system, which comes along with some lovely spoilers about his backstory. I think he and Rivka would be an interesting pair, he’d definitely find her the easiest to trust of the bunch.

Plus if she manages to keep Simon in check it’d be a perk for him LOL

Thanks! :)

And I find the whole idea of the goblin being the most trustworthy one of the bunch pretty funny.

Lookin' forward to it!

Well Pentre is not the trusting kind... especially towards common thieves

"Simon! She is a goblin, for crying out loud! A fake street peddler that will steal your pouch of gold the moment you lower the guard or sleep! Can't you see her... spirits... are just a ruse?!" * growl *

Can't wait for Theo to join the party like good old times!!!
When are we going live with it?

Well I work a very early morning shift today, but I’m hoping to launch the OOC tonight. Just to give us a little time to discuss plot if need be and let Theo have a moment to retrieve a character they’d like to use. I’m off Friday and Saturday so I’ll have plenty of time to get the IC launched one of those days.

Sweet! I'm leaning more towards Rick right now, and I'm excited to see how the little liar fares in this group.
