Achimedeus (played by illantis)

Wadjets. They were so many and his soldiers nowhere to be seen... Petsuchos is patrolling the beach with a compliment of your Hoplites and our spear men. So Achimedeus didn't even have his men present. How to defeat hundreds of serpentine beasts without them? "Where is Petsuhos?" he demanded of Nomti. Had he not said, after all, that Wadjets feared him?

"H-he should be on his way back..." for a creature that fed off of fear, he had a rather startling look of terror in his eyes. "They aren't immortal... Kill them like you'd kill anything else, j-just watch out for their spit."
Achimedeus (played by illantis)

Spit, right. The Egyptian soldiers were not his to command, so he surged ahead of them, drawing a sword from the sheath at his waist. The wadjet nearest to him bared its fangs and flattened its head, hissing. He dodged as it lunged at him and sliced at the neck behind its head and turned without a second glance to face a wadjet that had taken the fallen one's place.

The spearmen and axemen of Egypt didn't function like the Greek hoplites. They were disciplined and well trained, but they didn't form a phalanx or fight in long columns, rather htey fought in small groups of anywhere between four and ten and moved quickly about, focusing on one wadjet at a time and quickly dispatching it byy first cutting off or damaging the wings to prevent the serpent from lifting its head and then stabbing it to death or simply beheading it. Screams could be heard from men who had been touched by the potent venom as their flesh was eaten away and limbs fell off or their entire bodies dissolved.
Suddenly, a bright beam of raw light shot through the mass of snakes, incinerating any part that came in contact with it.
The beam of light came from the crown on top of a massive Nile Crocodile's head. The beast was about 20 feet long from nose to tail and stood at around four feet high. His body was infused with gold plates acted as armor and the golden crown atop his head looked like two horns that were brought together in the middle by a spinning orb of pure light. The reptile let out a loud roar then shot another beam of light into the mass of snakes, causing most of them to scatter.

He observed the Egyptian's strategy as they brought down scores of a familiar enemy. He took note of their method and gradually became accustomed to the loose sand beneath his feet and the movement of the wadjets before they strike.

The light startled and confused him until he saw its source. The crocodile god scattered most of the wadjets and the rest were set upon by the Egyptians. Achimedeus wiped his blade on the sand and found himself approaching the crocodile.

The large reptile gave a small growl from the bottom of his throat, not in anger but a greeting.
"He says hello," came Ornlu's voice from behind him. She dropped a wadjet's wing into the sand and licked some blood from her chops.

"Greetings," Achimedeus returned, wiping the sweat and wadjet blood from his brow with the back of his hand, sheathing his sword and bowing respectfully. "May I ask where my Hoplites are?"

The croc smacked the ground with his tail, sending a ripple of sand behind him and he growled again.
"He says that the armor weighs them down. They'll arrive soon," Ornlu translated.

He nodded once, curtly. "Indeed. After losing the war, hoplites have not been quite as efficient. Skirmishers, you'll find, did play a larger role than some of out historians were willing to credit. You are aware, I am sure, of the plans to travel south?" He glanced at Ornlu.

The crocodile gave out a noise that was somehow similar to a purr.
"Yes. He's more than willing to move that far. It's better than here. He recommends we get on the ships and start sailing as soon as we can."
Achimedeus (played by illantis)

"I agree." The wadjet attack underscored the fact that they weren't safe. "We can go right away, if it suits you. All of the civillians are aboard the ships and we should be ready to raise anchor soon."

The crocodile gave a nod of his big head then started lumbering away, his jeweled body glistening in the moonlight.
Nomti came up behind Achimedus, his head low and ears dropping in shame. "To which ship shall I lead the mummies?"
Achimedeus (played by illantis)

"The furthest along the beach." He pointed in its general direction. "The sight of undead loved ones disturbs the living, so we keep them far apart." He placed a hand on Nomti's shoulder. "You are young yet. Fear can be overcome."

"Our mummies are too old to have any living loved ones... They're just not healthy to be around," he gestured again to the flies and decayed flesh before leading the group of mummies away.
"They are creatures who feed off of fear. It will not be so easy for him to overcome that fear of his as it would be for a human. Each Anubite has a fear that sustains them while not absorbing the fear of others. His just so happens to be an unfortunate fear of snakes," Ornlu said knowledgeably
