The flight had taken longer than she remembered. True, it had been years since she had come to this place, but still. As she was getting off the plane, she noticed the monitors on the walls of the airport displaying mundane pieces of information such as the local time and current temperature. It was now the middle of the afternoon and the sun was still very strong, keeping the heat around 90°. That was THE number one thing she hated about this place. All her life she had lived in colder climate and frankly, she could not bear the thought of having to walk out of the air-conditioned space, even just to get to the car. Unfortunately, it looked like she couldn't live in the terminal nor could she turn around and fly back home, so she called the taxi that would bring her to the ranch.
It took another frickin' hour for the taxi to finally pull in the driveway to the ranch. Nobody seemed to be waiting for her arrival, which was not very surprising considering she had been told as much and given instructions on where to find her room. She quickly paid the driver and grabbed her stuff, not wanting to waste one second more than necessary in this sweltering heat. She didn't own much so she could thankfully manage her luggage by herself, grabbing the suitcase in one hand and flinging her duffle bag over the other shoulder. In the text she had received, it said that she would have a room in the employee's building which was located next to the main house. So that's where she went.
The property was huge, with acres upon acres of land and a multitude of buildings housing horses and humans alike. Many people worked here on a daily basis, hence the need for the employee's building, although, she didn't know of anyone living here except for the owners. Which were part of her extended family and apparently, the only persons left that could "take care of her". She was already 20, but the authorities had determined that she still needed to go live with family until she hit 21. That meant that she only had a few months, about 4 to be exact, to suffer the life on the ranch before moving out. To be fair, it was not the ranch itself that she hated, more like everything related to it. She loved horses, always had, and could even ride a little. But the competitive energy that came with some riders made people very bitchy and mean. Plus, she remembered her aunt to be a very strict and severe person. She was fully expecting to be exploited until her last day here. So it's with that kind of depressed energy that she finally found the room she had been assigned, in the attic that had been finished probably in a hurry.

Jean-Luc rested his arms against the top of the railing, watching a pair of riders go through dressage routines. He turned his head slightly as the taxi pulled up the gravel drive. The girl who got out but be his newest employee, the niece of the owner. At the moment he couldn’t recall what she was going to do, but he figured either a groom or exercise rider. He had no desire to let her train any of the horses or riders. As far as he knew she had little actual experience. Yet Jean knew it would all depend on what her aunt decided, she was a force to be reckoned with. Turning back he offered some suggestions to the two riders before waving a nearby trainer over to finish the lesson.
Setting his sights on the staff housing, he walked across the drive. If he could recall she would be up in one of the attic rooms, several of which had just barely been finished. Jean-Luc brushed loose hair out of his face as he made his way up the porch steps. He stood in the kitchen that opened up into the living and drank a glass of water. He would wait for her to come back downstairs, hopefully, she wouldn’t unpack right now. There was work to be done and half the day was already gone.
