She didn't seem the last bit embarrased. "I'm not admiring your face, Nelis, don't flatter yourself." She joked with a smile and then pointed at his food. "Just eat the pancake already." Kenzie wondered for a moment how old was he, really. Old enough to have owned the house before they moved there?
"Ah, well I'm flattered," he grinned as he took the bite. Evidently she wanted to see his reaction to her home cooking. Once he swallowed it he savored the taste, looking as if he were pondering over something then he smiled, "On a scale of one to ten... I'd say.. Eight."
Kenzie scoffed. "You hurt my feelings, you know." She took her plate and went to the living room, and turned on the TV , to watch reruns of CSI. "I won a cooking contest last year with my pancakes!"
"They are good, just not the best food I've tasted," he chuckled lightly as he followed her to the living room and took a seat. "Besides it's only my opinion." He brought another piece into his mouth.
Kenzie smiled a little. "Okay, fair enough." She lifted her feet onto the small table near the couch. "Now, why don't you tell me why your fight with other Trait Wielder happened in the first place? I'm very curious about that, you know. I'd have thought your kind was more... friendly with each other."
Nelis then placed the plate aside, thinking of a good way to put it, "First off, we're all human. I really don't like the term 'kind', but if you feel comfortable doing it, then do so. Second of all, it's not that we're not friendly, many of us just tend to be territorial and I happened to be at the right place, but at the wrong time.. With someone I'm not particularly fond of." He then lifted the glass of orange juice to drink before he added, "It was nice to battle someone who was a challenge though."
"I know you're all humans, silly." She hugged a cushion to her chest, yawning. "I don't know how I'll explain you to my mom. Even though she doesn't spend a lot of time here, she should know. She'll probably freak out." Kenzie frowned and turned towards him. "How old are you anyway? For real. Your parents? Friends?"
The Trait Wielder leaned back in his seat, folding his arms over his chest and sighed, "You ask many questions.. I'm twenty four, Vanille and Charles though I doubt they remember me, and I have acquaintances, but friends.. Not much at all besides Gerald. I can't really rely or relate to anyone."
"Well, I have to ask questions, you're in my house and I don't know you." She got up suddenly because she felt there was something there she'd sit on. Kenzie picked up the clock-like artifact. "Hmmm... I don't remember this being here." She turned it around in her hands, examining it because she truly didn't have the slightest idea as to where had it come from.
Nelís's eyes scanned over it, knowing it was familiar, but couldn't wrap out around his finger. He stood up and made his way over, his eyes still observing the object then he grinned, "I haven't used that in forever." It was when he first started time traveling when he had that. He had made it to keep current time of London while he was away.
Kenzie looked up at him and then back at the clock. "This?" She held it up for him to see, wondering what did it do, peering at it curiously. "It seems like just an old relic to me." But it felt like something more. She pushed a button and something inside clicked. What had she done now?
The wizard also waited expectantly. He hadn't recalled placing a button on it and didn't know who would, but whatever the cause he hated being unprepared for these sort of things. Not knowing what to expect was his vulnerability. Whatever it was, he did not see it coming.
The first thing she noticed, was that her house looked different. Her pancakes where gone, and the Smart TV her mom had bought the month before was gone too. In the blink of an eye, it hit her that it didn't feel like her house anymore. She glanced down at the clock she was still holding. "Ummm... I think I'll go upstairs..."
The Trait Wielder almost grinned at the familiarity and his eyes scanned over the features of the room, every item to recall the old days though he still hadn't a clue of why there was a button on the clock, but he wouldn't complain. It seemed to be his home again, almost like he remembered. He then turned to Kenzie and noticed her slight unease, "Sounds like a plan."
She gave him a weird look and ran up the stairs to her room. The pictures from her childhood with her mom were not on the walls like they used to be. She opened the door to her room and almost closed it because it didn't look at all like it; but then she saw it. A hole in the opposite wall that when she moved she'd had to cover with a painting. "Where is all my stuff?!"
Nelís called from downstairs, stationary as he leaned against the wall, "It's here, just not in this time." His eyes flicked to the hearth that glowed with a new fire, or rather, his old fire. He folded his arms over his chest in content as he took in the old house.
Kenzie came running down the stairs, making as much of noise as possible. "Not in this time?!" She stood next to him were her arms crossed as well. She wasn't very happy, even though, technically, it'd been her fault. "How can I fix this? I can't stay in another time. When are we, anyways?"
The Trait Wielder outstretched his hand with a light chuckle, "Give me the clock. I know we're at least forty years behind your current time." He was a bit glad that in the end he could still call it his home. Nothing had really changed drastically since he'd last seen it, maybe better..
Kenzie stared at the clock critically for a minute before dropping it on his open palm. "Your house now, right?" She could tell by the way he felt more at ease now. He'd mentioned he'd been a previous owner and well, here they were. There was simple furniture and the wallpaper was nice. It was a pity it didn't exist in the present. Then it finally hit her. She was in the past. "Hold on a second." Kenzie ran to the door and opened it, looking outside.
The house across the street was in construction. The toys that usually littered her next door neighbour's yard were nowhere to be seen. She was a tiny bit dissapointed. She'd been expecting something more... drastic.
