I've dipped into playing female characters a small handful of times, but I'm frequently anxious that I'm somehow 'doing it wrong'. Oddly enough, those few times the fem character has been awfully similar, and I've come to think of them as variations of the same person in different universes with different moral alignments.
I haven't run into the same problems as others playing opposite gendered characters. I suppose that's because I've only done it in groups where people are familiar with me and know who I am, who don't tend to get weird about that sort of thing.

I should clarify what I was talking about before. It's not so much any one specific behavior, as it is a general atmosphere or attitude, I guess. It's the way everybody is self-absorbed, both about themselves and their characters. It's worse in some communities than others though, so I don't think it's a universal condition.
