"Master Gareth! Master Gareth! I saw something!" The excited voice of Gareth's apprentice reached him half a heartbeat before she came careening around the corner. He was kneeling in front of a perched bird, glove outstretched. The large dark brown hawk he had been patiently feeding quail strips to flared its wings and kicked away from him at the sound of the apprentice's voice. Hampered by the leash, the bird grumbled and stayed at the farthest end of his tether, eyeing Gareth suspiciously now. Sighing, Gareth stood and rounded on his apprentice.
"Paeli, what have I told you about manners around here?"
"Yes but-"
"No buts, I'm never gonna man that bird if you're always running around and scaring everyone."
"'M sorry, Master Gareth," Paeli said contritely, hanging her head. Gareth sighed again and tilted her head up.
"Go on, then, what'd you see?" He said kindly, giving her a smile to show there weren't any hard feelings.
"Well, I was getting more branches to make some perch-outs like you wanted me to, and I saw it! It was huge! The biggest thing I've ever seen. Like four wolves stacked on top of each other, it was. And it was lookin' right at me, then it came up and tried to eat me! Ran as fast as I could!" Hopping from foot to foot in excitement, her red hair askew, his apprentice looked so like an impatient young kestrel that Gareth laughed aloud. "I'm saying true!"
"Paeli, Paeli, it's fine. I'll go take a look. It was probably Haver's mastiffs again. Bring me Faline, she'll buzz them off, they hate her. Then get to work on those perch-outs." A few minutes later, Paeli came staggering back, the diminutive girl looking even smaller with the large red tail perched on her arm. Faline, her scowl ever present, hopped onto Gareth's outstretched arm and the pair was off.
They reached the small cluster of woodland in no time, and Gareth looked around for any signs of dogs, wolves, or anything else. "Hello?" He called out playfully, grinning a bit. "Giant monster in the woods? I'd appreciate you not scaring off my apprentice, she's got work to do." He chuckled to himself, thinking he ought to bring Paeli out with him to show her there was nothing out here. Faline rasped grumpily, shifting from foot to foot and looking around. "What? You want to get yourself a rabbit?"

Karang had been watching the little red haired human, entranced by the fiery shades of her hair. She had seen him though, and when he tried to speak she had run off. Too bad, too.
But now the bigger human was here and he had what- a hawk! Oh, he loved hawks. They made for interesting conversation so long as they weren't hungry. This one seemed uneasy at his presence though, even though he was carefully hidden in the bushes, his golden scales blocked by the dark leafy green foliage.
The bigger human seemed in a much better mood than the little female, and he was quite tempted to slither out and talk to him. But his dragon form would probably scare him away; not many people liked dragons, certainly not the ones he had met. So he stayed in his cover while he thought about how to approach him.
Maybe in his human form? Humans liked most other humans, yes. That could work. He swiftly morphed into a human although he currently kept his huge, multicolored wings for an emergency, flapping them a few times before folding them tightly behind his back, wincing at the rustling sound they made. In this form he had shaggy golden hair and still had those odd kaleidoscope eyes that perplexed many people, along with longer and definitely sharper than normal teeth. He also had his wings but he could potentially morph them back into his shoulders if he needed to.
Feeling slightly apprehensive, he peered around the bush at the bigger human, scenting the air curiously and trying not to be too noticeable. Like that would work well, silly dragon.

"Ugh, Paeli, I'm gonna tan your hide," Gareth mumbled to himself as he poked about in the scrub with one hand. Faline grumbled and shifted from foot to foot on her glove, fluffing her wings and glaring around. She swiveled her head back when she noticed movement in the brush. Gareth, his back turned to it, was oblivious to being observed. His hawk, on the other hand, was keen to investigate the movement she'd sensed in the bushand she plucked at his sleeve in a decidedly ungentle way. With a less practiced person manning her, the action might have caused a release of the hold on her jesses, but Gareth was used to such ploys and held firm to his bird. "Yowch! What, monster?" Gareth asked, glancing down to see if she'd drawn blood.
Continuing to shift from foot to foot, Faline gripped Gareth's hand, her powerful talons sinking through the leather of the glove. "Alright, alright you great beast," he said, letting her jesses go and tossing her lightly into the air. Faline streaked straight for the bush that Karang was hiding in, swiping at the shrubbery and letting out a cry. She landed in the tree, looking disgruntled.
Gareth frowned, knowing she was after something, something that was too smart, or frightened, to bolt from the flush. "What's over there?" He wondered aloud, striding toward Karang's cover.

Karang hissed slightly, crouching down and pulling his wings over his head to protect it, trying to avoid the talons that were dangerously close to his face. He flailed a hand gently at the hawk, trying to shoo her away, although he froze when he heard Gareth start coming closer.
Now what- now what? Quick, hide the wings-
The multicolored appendages had just been smoothly morphed into his shoulder blades and he had caught a stray floating red feather in his hand when the human came into sight. That meant that Karang too could be seen- oh dear. The Amphiptere cowered instinctively in the brush, trying to look as inconspicuous and harmless as possible. A dragon? Him? Oh, no, most definitely not him.
He contemplated running, but the hawk would catch him quickly. Flying was also out since the guy looked reasonably intelligent and would figure out what he was. So he'd just have to wait... Dang it.
