I always wanted to try this. Any of you got experience? Tell me about it!
I just started a group for WW2 fans on here, hoping there are people here who'll take an interest ^^

I do primarily historical roleplay with some minor fantasy elements -- the AU that all of my characters come from is accurate Earth merged with fantasy. While Hramn is technically futuristic (post magical apocalypse), I may give him a WWI/II continuity branch if there is potential for it. I've also got an Ancient Roman, Archaemenid Persian, Ancient Greek, English Regency Naval Captain, American Old West WoD-based Hunter and Early Medieval banished angel amongst a buttload of others but those are what come to mind first.

I try to avoid post-1900 for the most part, but if it's well done and does not primarily revolve around Nazism then I see no issue with it. Some variety in the genre would be welcomed.

Hmm, that's pretty cool! I tried to write an AU thing as a book once but lacked the patience and it prolly wouldn't have gone over well in publication, but the idea is always floatin' around somewhere in my brain
And no worries - while I *am* a NS girl at heart (if you didn't already guess from the nick ), it would simply be bad manners and ruining the game for others if I tried to make it an exclusive 3R thing or something like that. Variety is essential in creative activities. If that continuity branch thing works out, I'll enter my character Tiedjen =^..^=

I have had almost 9 years worth of experience with role-playing in historical settings; some more realistic than others but historically-based nonetheless. I have extensive experience in playing in a WWII setting, both realistic and with fantasy elements. For any historical role-playing, I find that going beyond the "typical" history tends to add a very enjoyable and refreshing element to this type of role-playing.

Even if one is not asking the "what if...?" questions ("What if Hitler's plan worked?" "What if the South would have won?" etc.), going outside of what is typically taught in history books can add a very "real" and yet "outside of the box" feel for the role-play and plot in general.

What has probably been the most interesting WWII-plot roleplay that you have done if I may ask, Letztearierin?

@Hramn: Uhh, sorry for the abbreviation-proneness, I'm too used to talking to a few people only, lol! The two terms meaning Nazi and 3rd Reich, respectively.
@Kawmra: Agreed! Accuracy is important, but only to a point; where it hinders the fun it's clearly allowed to deviate from the "official narrative". The most intriguing story I've been involved in was a pretty personal one, set mostly in Prague (it lasted nearly two years in real time, if I remember correctly). For the most part, I played Heydrich's secret fortune-teller girlfriend, who tries to warn him about the assassination plot, and gets told to shut her mouth and made believe to be unheeded, but then it turns out that her warning had indeed been listened to, and her love was only pretending to be dead. (A low-ranking officer, who is in love with her despite her lack of interest, tells her about this on June 5 to prevent her from committing suicide.) Then they are working together for a while but, courtesy of a "dream invader" (a person who can enter into people's dreams and alter them, including divinative dreams), their plans are thwarted and they have a beautiful dying-together scene in Berlin. (For reasons I don't remember the details of anymore, I also had to play Lina for a while, which was interesting given her miffed reaction to the presence of my OC ) I know, girly romantic garbage, but hey, that's not the only style I do

@letzearierin: Aah I am so used to not abbreviating it due to University - you had points deducted for using terms such as 'WWI' and so on. Lengthier but, ho-hum.

Gaaaaah IKR!!! I'm so glad I am done with those 3 years in Hell! (Well, just signed up for another 2, but, yeah.) I spent more time on DeviantArt and such than writing assignments though.

Ah, I'm waiting to start my second year. I want to do Battlefield Archaeology, so for me it's another two years then another three on top of that then however long it takes to specialise. I did not mind the ancient history modules, but after two years at sixth-form then another for first year it's safe to say that the more modern time periods rather lost their 'freshness' at times.

Hm. That's a pretty awesome job if you finally get to do it, though. I was on a boring EngLit track, now starting the translator/interpreter MA so I can finally get my mom's old job and in the meantime do fun things and/or brood over not deserving to be alive (due to bad eyes [=ergo can't enlist], wrong gender, & wrong period). Sometimes the fun and the "brooding over" parts are done simultaneously, and when other people are participating, that turns into RP, lol.

Have you considered looking into re-eancting? World War Two is pretty common, depending on your location. Most groups these days permit cross-dressing, although the majority of the more credible ones do not support or permit people to join if they have political afflations/sympathies to Nazism.

Conidered, yes. Found, no. The "depending on your location" part is key. Hungary had a few reenactor groups but now they all seem to be defunct. (Similar deal with the Society for Creative Anachronism, a Renaissance reenactor thing - some people tried to get it started but it fell victim most likely to lack of interest.) As for the politically active groups 'round here, I tried to get along with them but they are deviating way too much from the real thing (like, when was being a Christian required for NS affiliation? ) and even delve into flat out lying/denial (and aside from being averse to dishonesty, I can't wrap my head around the logic of denying what actually was an accomplishment ), so, staying away from them for now.

In the early years it was - it was only in the later years that Hitler seperated off it. Accepting/tolerating the Church was more or less a propaganda cover as the majority of his voters were still (and remained) Catholic.

Is it not a good thing that they are deviating from the real thing however? Given today's society, being homophobic and racist isn't socially acceptable. The main point of re-enactment is to educate within a safe environment or as one WWII Nazi re-enactor I've spoken to said, "It's ensuring that people never forget." Which is primarily why there are two main focuses, on the civilian aspect and the military rather than the really nasty stuff which most (if not all groups forbid). Isn't something better than nothing?

Accomplishment... matter of opinion I am afraid. Like every attempted Empire it had its pros, but an awful lot of cons to go with it as well.

Tl'dr; It is and will be likely impossible to find a group that recreates what you are looking for. I am saying this from a (to be) re-enactors point of view. The goal is to educate, and to replicate but not to relive.

And you have a point, "Isn't something better than nothing?" - of course it is.
Still, I'd rather live then than now. And if they are a political group intead of just a reenactor one, they *should* be sticking to the real thing. With reenactor/educational groups of course it's different. But I can't seem to find those here.
