As cubs a lion, a tiger, and a bear had been owned by a drug dealer who did not properly care for them. The bear’s harness grew into his skin because the owner did not alter it as the animal grew. They had been abused and neglected early in life, but were finally rescued. The bear's harness was surgically removed.

They had been taken in by an Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary in Georgia, an institution that runs solely on donations. The staff initially tried to separate them due to obvious concerns that the three large predators would fight. During the trial of separation, the animals were uncooperative and behaved poorly. Once reunited, the three calmed down and were well behaved.

Twelve years later, the three friends spend their days playing, cuddling, and eating together. While the sanctuary would prefer to leave them together, new federal regulations on fence height are threatening to separate them. It will cost nearly half a million dollars to update the facility and meet the October deadline. A crowdsourcing donation campaign is going until Sept 24 to allow BLT to remain together as a family.

I thought this was touching and heartbreaking at the same time. I hope this will spread some more attention!

Same here. :(
This really sucks. I wish I could give them each a hug.

And not get eaten.

Going by the videos, they're fairly social with human caretakers. :) I think we could hug them and get away with it!
But the love bites. Oh God, the love bites.

Love hurts, I guess! XD That's a sacrifice I'd be willing to make.
Well, but when you're willing to trade your life for a bit of fun time for petting and hugging a wild animal, you have to remember that you're risking his/her life, too, because if something happens, even if you get minorly injured, they're most likely going down.

Also, I would suggest checking out Big Cat Rescue in Florida. They have interesting website, facebook page, but what could draw you in the most are the many videos posted about their big cats playing with enrichment. http://www.youtube.com/user/BigCatRescue

It's a good thing I was joking then.
It's just that so often people post things like that and don't consider the consequences - I see it on youtube, facebook comments on wildlife involving pages, everywhere - and what's so much worse: someone always, every year, somewhere tries it in one way or another and animals suffer from it. And although it as any other warning is quite fruitless because those who do such things usually don't care about what they're told, it doesn't mean it should not be said.

It's virtually impossible to actually hug a prey animal like this unless you break into their enclosure at night and break the law, since any place with these animals has rules in place to prevent that. Anyone with a little bit of common sense wouldn't get close to them to begin with.

As true as your words are, I'd rather keep the thread focused on the fact that these guys will end up separated and become more difficult to handle due to the separation if they can't raise the funds in time to raise the fences in their enclosure. We had a little banter about hugging them, but it wasn't meant seriously and we wouldn't do it even if we could (without the proper supervision and guidance in the very least).
Alternatively, this banter is about the reason why they're even endangered to be separated, because their cage does not meet new safety guidelines which are to 'keep people from them', but just as much to keep them safe from people. As for supervision and guidance, you often see caretakers and volunteers suffer from attack, because they've grown too confident 'they could hug the animal and get away with it'. Some people, sadly, volunteer and get involved in these carriers for this alone and there aren't enough warnings through their work time that it's dangerous.

As for this trio, I sincerely hope they find a way to remain together. I also cannot donate, but I wish I could. Perhaps, if they can't gather money in time, they could be split for a time, till it's gathered and construction works done. I think that either way, lot of people will hear and learn about them and sanctuary they're at and it will bring the good solution. It tugs at people heartstrings.
Hey everybody, just a friendly reminder to keep this thread on topic. The real issue here is that these people need money to keep these animals from going through unnecessary stress. Hopefully someone will be able to donate :)
If I had money to spare I would totally donate. Something to keep in mind for the future. It would be great if they could remain together!
I've actually already donated to these guys XD

It is upsetting that these animals were bought for pets. Neglected and abused, then shuffled off. Fortunately, they were taken in by good souls that care and want to keep them together. When they aren't born in the wild it has been shown time and again that animals will form packs regardless of species. Separating these animals would be separating a pack and would have horrible results.

These animals need to be taken care of, loved, and kept together <3

Aww really Highjinx? Thank you!!!

I totally agree with you. :) I see it with my kitties, if one of them is kept away from the other two, they get visibly upset and meow relentlessly to find each other. It's heartbreaking.

Update time!

They managed to raise a whopping $362K+ for the cause and got the fences installed! All three are still together and happy as ever. :D
