"Looking at him won't break him my dear," Katherine said softly to Edward, holding her hand out for his to beckon him closer, looking at the little boy who was now rested in the crook of her other arm, fidgeting beneath the woollen swaddle he had been wrapped in, his face still red from his crying. Katherine couldn't help but beam down at him and then back to her husband.
She could tell he adored him already. What father would not adore their son? When he was closer she sat herself up only a little. Katherine knew it was no customary for the father of a child to hold their newborn, but Edward and her were different, she felt. She knew he would want to know the feeling of having their son in his arms. Delicately, the auburn-haired woman lifted the newborn off her chest when Edward was nearer, passing him across slowly.
"Mind his head," the woman whispered softly, keeping one hand lightly against the blanket that he was wrapped in, unwilling to filly part contact with him just yet, her jade eyes lovingly lingering - "I know it is custom for father's to name their sons but.....I like William if you would consider it," she commented, glancing across to Emily and motioning to the chair beside the bed for her, not wanting to leave her out of this.
Family. That is what they were now. Regardless of what anyone said or whatever rumours spilled out in society. They were family. Edward made her feel more loved and happy than she had ever felt in the past and Katherine knew he felt in a similar way. They completed each other. Now, they had a son who could follow in his father's footsteps and a daughter who Katherine loved almost too dearly. In her eyes, they were all perfect and content. She hoped she and Edward would now spend a long time growing old together. Maybe have another child or so when she had recovered. Then, she would have to coach a nervous Edward through Emily's official seasons and her future courting, when she was ready to marry. There would be much to teach their son too. Katherine smiled to herself at the though, leaning forward so she could rest her head against Edward's arm lightly - content and at peace.

[And they lived happily ever after]
