The Plot
Adael is putting together a crack-team to perform an intricate heist. Barame is the first member of the team - he needs somebody he can trust to make sure the group stays in line. Think Reservoir Dogs as a similarity!

Why Dice?
Dice are FANTASTIC in this kind of game. The best thing about heists are plans going wrong. A door withstands an explosion. The stealth-based character stumbles and gives away everybody's position. All of a sudden, you have to make the best of an awful situation. You have to move onto plan B then plan C. And dice cause that unexpected randomness. In freeform RP, players know not to powergame. Their shots miss, their lockpicks break. But it's not the same as something happening unexpectedly and forcing players to go with the flow.

Which Dice System. Is this Shadowrun?
This game will not use a system such as D&D or Shadowrun. This will be a very simple custom dice system based on the rundown Kim has here https://www.rprepository.com/help/dice-primer In the end, this is not a game about stats and dice. It's game about planning, and I want to keep the dice-rolling simple and accessible to anybody who wants to join. (And Shadowrun is the opposite of simple and accessible)

What kind of characters are you looking for?
This game is highly flexible. The game is set in a modern-day (or sliiightly high-tech) world with commonplace magic. Almost all characters who suit this time setting will be acceptable. Please consider which 2-3 archetypes your character fills
  • Guns Expert
  • Driver
  • Defensive Magic Expert
  • Thief
  • Stealth
  • Face
  • Poisons Expert
  • Blades Expert
  • Computer Expert
  • Non-exhaustive list - add anything you think is suitable.

Overlaps are permitted (for example we can have two or three guns experts). This is just a list to 1) let me know why Adael would hire your character and 2) For players to reference so we can get a diverse team. Your character must be willing to steal and possibly kill for profit. I haven't decided yet on the exact nature of the heist - it will depend on the characters who join! For example, if there's a lot of magical talent in the party, it will be a mission that requires a lot of magical talent to succeed. Adael's going to recruit the right team for the job.

How will the game be run?
I will provide maps and handle NPCs but will largely sit back. Players will have to decide on their mode-of-attack (Will we blow up the large security door or will we sneak through the vents?) Players will also have to consider things like:
- How do you handle security cameras?
- How do you get to the mission (Who drives? What do you drive? Will your numberplates be caught on camera?)
- How do you conceal weaponry in public?
- What do you do if the police arrive?
- How will your characters communicate?

If your characters get into a fight, they will likely encounter both magical and mundane enemies.

I think a group of about three or four more players is about right. Post lengths will be flexible although players should be willing to write at least one paragraph in most situations. Also, you shouldn't expect RP to be very quick-paced. It will require a bit of DM input between posts and I'm not always available.

This will be a one-shot RP. But hey - if the group works well he might recruit them for a second job.

I was thinking this'd be a fun RP to run in the public forums, but if you think it's prone to being too graphically violent or swear-y I'm happy to shift it to a group. I'm open to discussion on that front.

Anyway!! If you're interested please let me know and I'll hash out more specific details such as the skills list. I'm also 100% open to negotiation at this point. If there's something you really want to see or something you want to avoid, please let me know!
Magic 80%
Magic is common.
Technology 60%
Near future, perhaps cloning and genetic manipulation
Combat 70%
More combat than not. The setting may be at war, and the characters will likely get involved whether or not they seek it out.
Romance 00%
No romance at all will be included in this plot, period.

Details: Occasional dice use, adjustable length posts, one-off scene. Will be played with a small group of players.

MangoNekros

This sounds like a good ie=dea, but I have a question! Does the character have to be based off some type of game or show or something? Or are we allowed to use our own character?

Original characters only!

Okay, great! I recently started working on characters that are Mercenaries, that pretty much get paid to do whatever someone needs them too.

Bumping up for 2-3 more players :D
Ember_Wolf

Hmm, might I be able to use a lesser version of my Wolvan Special Forces Operative? If there's no specific race requirements, I think he would be a good fit. He can specialize in guns and stealth, or something. Overall, I would like for more specific details on this if possible.

This is something I was of two minds about. I figured if people wanted to play overtly non-human characters (as opposed to subtly non-human characters such as werewolves or vampires), that'd come with the side affect of giving me full permission to throw some serious non-humanoid enemies at the party. So, take that as you will :D
Hello! I may have a few characters who may fit, and they are humanoid, but if needed, I can humanize these characters.

Sertha Shrike - Blades Expert. Sertha is a tall Aegean-Skinned elf who specializes in blades and weapons containing shadow and (arcane) magic. She loves to tease others, and will get the job done at a cost. She can also disarm traps, but through violence instead of using a hacking technique.
Qorm Storm - Guns expert. He can barely be a stealth expert, but he can shoot through a door pretty well. Otherwise, blow it up against the cops. This is a redneck/dwarf who will speak his mind freely, and may struggle to cooperate with the plan in a constructive way.
Veras Mandosa - This is a dark-green eyed elf who specializes very well in robots, hunting, he can scout, use his creations and its tools for the necessary job. He can plan well as a mastermind, build several robotic spiders, disarm traps, you name it. He can't do everything of course, so no poisons nor encrypting identities and stealing. He'll be able to hack machines, but not really identify users. This is a chill, laid back individual who will round up others if necessary.

P.S. What is face?
Claine Topic Starter Moderator

A face is the charismatic member of the party. The kind to get past security guards with a some good words a few palmed $100 notes.

But I think any of those characters would work well! I'll send the three of you a PM later today and we can finalise the party (I'm minutes away from heading out).

There's still potential for one more character so I'm not going to officially close the topic yet :)

Are you still looking for players?
I didn't know what I needed to add in right now, but I'd love to join in and wanted to leave this before you all moved on.

I have a character that would fit well, but she was originally designed for Elder Scrolls rps, thought I can easily manipulate the personality and skills into a more modern version, I just wanted to make sure that was alright.

Also - you said the dice was simple enough, and I'll be reading the provided link but I just wanted it out there that I don't really use dice at all, so it really is a simple dynamic, right?
Claine Topic Starter Moderator

Sure thing!! I'll include you into the PM too.

I'm going to tentatively close this but may reopen it if people decide this isn't the right group for them and slots reopen.
Claine Topic Starter Moderator

One slot has reopened :D
Hey! Mind if I pop in? I have a vague idea for a character.
Oh, c'mon, my slot was filled right when I was about to confirm, huhuhuh. Guess I'll have to wait for the next time, good luck to y'all.

Don't forget to put the lime on the coconut. >:^)

I have added you to the PM chain, however it will require all other members to approve. You might need to wait a while before you actually gain access.

If somebody else decides this group isn't for them, I'll invite you straight away >:)
Alright, thanks a bunch! I'll be sure to work on my idea in the meantime!
