Zoe grinned seeing Rookie trying to cover up the fact that he had been blushing. "Suuure. That is it." She said scaristly with a grin. "Just wait out here, I'll be right back." She said then headed inside the house. She quickly grabbed her things together and grabbed some money to buy lunch. She came back outside and hugged her grandmother bye. "I am working late tonight so I probably won't be back till after you and grandpa are asleep. Goodbye." She said then walked over to Rookie with her backpack on. "Alright. Ready to go."

Rookson had locked up at this point, if he was facing her she would see that his face had turned a complete scarlet. He didn't dare mutter a word in fear that she might pursue the subject. As she told him to wait out here he let out a deep sigh after she left. Rookson always carried money on him so he didn't have to worry about getting lunch money everyday, and he was confident that he wasn't going to be mugged, or loose a fight over his money to say more clearly. He watched as she reappeared from the house with her things and smiled as they hugged, it was nice to see a happy family. When she confirmed she was ready to go he begin walking off, assuming she would follow. He looked at her for a few seconds before saying, "You work late tonight?...", before looking down and rubbing the back of his head.

Zoe looked over ay Rookie and nodded. "Yeah. A coworker of mine had to take the night shift off because he had made plans for his girlfriend's birthday so I am taking his place. Don't worry, I'll be able to handle myself." She said with a smile, trying to hope to put any worries Rookie might have about her safety.

Rookson was alright with her working, he was just worried she might be beat up again. He smiled back at her and then looked back down at the ground. His worries are what made Rookson, Rookson, he was that sweet and kind guy that would protect pretty much anyone if they needed it.

Zoe smiled back at him and hitched her backpack up on her shoulder, she had a one-strap backpack that was old and look like it was starting to fall apart. She has had it since the first grade so of course it was old and a bit small but big enough to hold her stuff in it. She really liked it and held close to her for all the memories it held with her.

Rookson started to pick up the pace, going into a run and looking behind him, he said, "Come on! If we don't hurry we are going to be late!", he had a smile on his face. He looked like he was competing for something, like that time you saw him when he was little when he played kickball. After Zoe left Rookson did nothing but sit at the swings by himself for a while, but he eventually got out of it.

Zoe was surprised when he started running then she looked at her watch then went after him, but she was a bit behind him, she only hoped he didn't try to run any faster or she would lose him. She was glad to see the old Rookie, the one she remembered.

Rookson noticed that she was falling behind, even though it was fun to race he slowed down a bit so he could run beside her. He smiled at her once he got to where she was. Rookson just hoped that he got there on time, he hadn't been late for class a single day. Funny how friends can pull you down with this sort of thing, but he didn't mind, he thought it was more than a fair trade, more of a blessing.

Zoe was a bit surprised that he slowed down some to run beside her but she smiled at him and kept up. She had been late before because of the distance from her home to the school or her alarm not going off. She didn't know if she had any classes with Rookie, she usually just quickly went by through the school day, staying away from guys that looked like trouble.

Rookson was mainly in AP classes despite him looking like a delinquent, which he was, but he probably had better behavior than 98% of the kids in the school. All of the teachers knew that he did bad things, but that also knew that he was a really good kid.

He usually ended school early though, he had 2 classes every semester, and left around lunch time. That might have been why she had never seen him, he would see about staying near the school after he was finished with his classes though, and eat lunch with her.

As they were running, Rookson asked, "What lunch break do you have, Where do you sit?", he didn't seem to be breathing that heavily. He was going to probably hang out with her in her classes after he finished his as well, the principal knew that his gang would probably vandalize the school badly if they heard about throwing Rookson out, even if Rookson wanted it or not, which he didn't want his gang to vandalize. Rookson didn't like partaking in gang events, and his principal knew that, she also knew that Rookson was a good kid and was responsible, and he wouldn't get into any trouble, and would help in a classroom rather than help. She wouldn't call the cops on his gang because she would fear they would pin Rookson for some things, and his gang was actually very organized and quite large, some say that it is a sub-division of the mafia. Rookson is just one of those special cases.

Zoe had mostly Honors class expect for her AP Art. She didn't have a seventh period so she could go to work. She really hoped that her AP Art class would help her figure out what she wanted to do with her life, because she honestly had no clue besides doing something with her art.

She usually sat in the courtyard to eat lunch, she liked the quiet and was able to listen to her music while she drew some little animal she would get a picture of or read a book. She always ate her lunch so that her grandma wouldn't worry about her, even though she wasn't really hungry a lot and it showed in her thin, petite body.

She looked over at Rookie when he spoke then thought for a meant. "I usually sit in the courtyard. You?" She said, she wasn't out of breath yet but she was breathing a bit faster because she didn't run much, unless she was getting away from the bullies at her school. She usually did run away but it wouldn't have been long before she would find a hiding spot or they would tackle her to get her to stop. It only proved that most of the people at her school thought she was a guy. The principle knew she was a girl and her real name but understood why she wanted to hide her gender and name.

Rookson nodded when she answered, "No where...I don't eat lunch at the school", he was going to spend as much time as he could with Zoe now. He was going to see if they dared to even think about hurting Zoe when he was around. Plus, Rookson really liked Zoe, and he wanted to show her that he did, but he was a bit shy so it was kind of hard for him.

He really did think that Zoe was cute and pretty, him admitting that to himself would even make him blush. Hopefully she would understand that his feelings for her was much stronger than just friends, he wished he could just tell her, even if it felt sudden.

Zoe was very smart and noticed things easily, she had a feeling that Rookie liked her as more than friends but she didn't want to say anything for fear that she could be reading into his actions too deeply and was wrong. "Why?" She asked, looking to see that school wasn't too far away now. She looked at her watch and saw they had a good five more minutes before the bell rang.

She was thankful for all the help that Rookie had given her and she did share the similar feelings for him as he did for her but she wasn't straightforward with her feelings as she was with her ideas. She knew how to keep her thoughts hidden, even her eyes didn't whisper the truth of her thoughts.

Rookson couldn't see that she liked him, that's what scared him, he would get real nervous about it if he tried to bring it up. "Well...I don't like school lunch, and I get out of class early.", he smiled at her, "But I'll stay with you for lunch...", that was only half of his plan but it was the truth.

He could see the school in sight andsaid, "Come on we are almost there!", he sped up slightly.

Zoe smiled at Rookie. "That would be great! I usually don't do much so it would be fun to have someone else there to talk to." She said, smiling. It wasn't too hard for her to keep up with him, but her breathing did get deeper; she quickly checked her watch and saw that it was only three minutes before the late bell rang. "We only have about three more minutes."

Rookson's eyes widened in terror as she stated when the late bell was going to ring. He quickly swept her up off of her feet and began to sprint as fast as he could, which was about triple the speed from earlier. He reached the school in at least one minute, and he skid to a stop outside of view from anyone before setting her down, he quickly ran into the school and went to his class, teachers looked at him oddly, knowing that Rookson was usually early rather than late.

Zoe was shocked when Rookie had picked her up like he did and got to the school so quickly. Once she was put down, she quickly went to her class. She took her usual seat in the front near the window, where she liked to get lost in thought when she was done with her work and had nothing better to do. Her teachers never really cared much about her, expect her art teacher. She was very quiet and had good grades so there was never a need to question her.

Rookson sat down in his seat, in AP class there was usually around 15-25 people in it. He sat at the very front and paid attention to every word that the teachers said. Respectfully taking notes and every detail that he could extract from them. Finally the lunch bell rang, and Rookson, rather excitedly, even though it didn't show on his face, sprang up from his desk, and began to quickly walk towards the cafeteria. He bought a tray of food, it was fried chicken with various side items, he didn't much care for school food, but this would do.

Rookson walked to the courtyard, a bit excitedly, but mainly very quickly, along the way various students just stared at him as he passed by. If anyone saw him sitting with Zoe, there would be mass confusion, seeing that he didn't really want to make any friends with people in the school, to the point were he avoided most.

He found a good spot to sit at before setting his tray down, and looking around for Zoe, he wouldn't start eating without her, he was polite like that. Rookson would relocate where she usually sits with no problem if she wanted, but for now he needed to wait and look around for her.

Zoe was glad when the lunch bell rang, she wanted to go ahead and eat lunch, even though she didn't leave school for awhile but she was more excited to go see Rookie. She got her food, it was a vegetarian lunch, she didn't eat meat a lot, she preferred to eat salads and fruits because they tasted better to her. It wasn't long till she found Rookie, sitting down next to him. "Hey." She said with a bright smile. She was glad to see him.

Rookson sat there and looked at the ground in deep thought, resting his elbows on his knees as he pondered. He heard footsteps and looked up to see Zoe, and gave a smile, when she greeted him. He picked up the cup of carrots from the tray, deciding it would be best to not make a mess of himself with fried chicken in front of Zoe. He munched on the carrots rather slowly, and said, "So...Uh...Yeah....", he felt awkward talking to someone at lunch, mainly because he ate alone. Rookson looked at her rubbing the back of his head briefly.
