Hello! This is going to be a little long and sappy, so apologies in advance!
I've actually been on here since maybe... 2012 I think? 2011? I only have a single non-anon character on my profile so far and was using rp repository as a character profile bank (you can tell how well that went, because I only have a single non-anon character up on there—). This was because for the longest time, there were really only two groups of friends I was ever brave enough to rp with. Some have drifted away, and some I'm still very good friends with, they just lost interest in rp. I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss our shenanigans and stories, as well as the sense of community, but it happens!
Plus, I really want to get over my shyness and take the risk of meeting and talking to new people. I had tried before, and had some bad experiences with toxic rp chatrooms.
I'm not sure why now in particular after all this time, but I'm so glad I did though because I've encountered nothing but kindness and an extremely welcoming community so far. Nemo was meant to be a "well, screw it" character as they are an extremely self-indulgent idea and part of an even more self-indulgent project. It was just like "Idea? okay, throw it at Nemo. Weird dream? Throw it at Nemo—", so the fact that some people actually liked the character even though I've only been playing them in forum games was so encouraging. I even got my first ever character kudos on Nemo's profile this morning and this whole day I've been basically been like:
The mods have been nothing but extremely helpful and kind, taking the time to explain things with so much patience. I have heard so many awful stories about gatekeeping and favoritism in other communities, and experienced a few toxic ones myself, so oh my god??? I won't go into too much detail so I don't give myself away, but I recently asked with help for something with my non-anon character and they were SO nice and encouraging. I was honestly expecting an automated message but they not only took the time to reply themselves but checked out the topic I had posted.
I continue to see this kindness, patience and welcoming between other players and new members, and it gives me so much hope.
Maybe one day I'll add Nemo to my non-anon characters, and maybe I'll add new ones! I have a friend on here (at least I hope they consider me a friend as I look up to them and their amazing stories and art) who has a group, so one day I might be skilled enough and brave enough to create a character for it. For now I'll be hiding behind Nemo. c':

I just want to say that you're making great bounds to conquering your shyness by writing such a thoughtful message alone. That's a good first step in the right direction.
Toxicity is always going to exist where there are people, but it's good that for the most part you've avoided in, give or take those few instances. It may be rough, but keep on not being discouraged.
I agree that the kindness here outweighs a lot of the negativity and the community is pretty solid in my experience.
My own TL;DR: "Officially" welcome to RPR! I hope you're able to continue to grow more comfortable and your shyness levels at a point you're happy with. I hope I have the chance to come across on of your characters, anon or not.
