"I don't think we are supposed to take all of it, and we won't need to much." Being an orphan from the streets, Casus knew you didn't always need a lot to survive. "If we bring the rucksacks instead of the backpacks we can hold quite a bit, especially if we use the belts and sashes that hold things, but that could get very heavy. I think we should carry the bear minimum, or at least only what we need." Cacus wasn't that strong and wasn't looking forward to hauling a lot.

Nychta Skotadi (played by Sage-Thorne)

Nychta nodded slightly, taking a belt and sash, along with two leather pouches, and placing them on the little pile she was collecting for herself. When she came across the parchment with words and a hand, she picked it up and glanced at Casus. If he could see what the brooches were for...

"Casus... Do you think you can see what this is for?" She walked over to him, holding out the paper to the seer.

"I think so. I'll try." He took the parchment and closed his eyes when nothing happened from touching it. Once he closed his eyes the information came in a wave as it had earlier. "That's a spell," he exclaimed. He turned the paper over, "two spells!" He smiled, this was amazing. He had never seen a spell sheet before. "The way it works is you place your hand here, or here," he pointed to the hand print on both sides, "and the paper will disintegrate and you will have the knowledge of the spell. There's a catch though. You can only have the spell from the side of the paper you put your hand on. This side, the one we first saw, is a sort of electricity spell, I think. You can basically zap things, like when people touch and they get shocked, but a lot more powerful. It can stun small animals, if you are quick enough to touch them. I saw that when I closed my eyes. Other than that it just hurts a lot."

He turned the paper over. "This one lets you create a small blue ball of light in your hand, it looked the size of an apple. It doesn't give off a huge amount of light, it's like a single candle but has no fire. In my vision this adventurer used it to temporarily blind someone by shoving it in their face." He looked up from the paper and at Nychta. "Storm touch or summon light orb? Your pick," he said and handed it back to her.

Nychta smiled, taking the parchment back. "Amazing..." She turned the paper over a few times, mulling the decision over in her head. She had never tried to hurt anyone before, and she didn't think she would be able to get close enough to someone to make the storm touch effective. She decided, therefore, to go with the ball of light. She turned it over to the proper side and pressed her hand against the drawing. After a moment, the paper sort of vaporized into a plume of smoke. Suddenly, she heard whispers of some language she had never heard before, and she could recall how to produce a ball of light. She was pleasantly surprised, grinning. It was an amazing feeling, suddenly learning a spell. She looked at Casus. "I guess that's what it feels like when you see something," she said with a broad smile.

Casus gave a small smile, "probably." Casus turned and picked one other pair of clothing, then picked a pair of leather gloves out and put them with is other items. He then decided to go and check out the belts. He chose a leather belt with areas for pouches, dished the two leather holders and three cloth pouches out from the mess of pouches, and put them on. The two leather pouches had slits that the belt went through, he tied two of the leather pouches to the belt, and put the third in his pocket. "There's so much around here," he mused.
Markal (played by Tolora)

Markal grabbed a rucksack and a clean pair of clothes. Better get the essentials out of the way first, then start in choosing all the weapons and extras. He picked up a pair of boots, a water skin and a dark green cloak that fit him well enough. There was so much in here, so much more than he would've been able to have living his life as a poor orphan. He gathered other essentials like the blanket and rope before coming to a stop in front of the weapons on the wall.

They all seemed to gleam at him. He touched the blade of one and drew back his hand to suck on his cut finger. They were well sharpened too. He looked over them and saw the strange chain weapon. "It looks like a sickle farmers use." He picked it up and tried a few test swings. It wasn't very heavy, and he decided he'd take it. He decided he'd need something that could do a farther range though too. He glanced between the bows and the throwing knives, finally deciding that the knives would be easier to carry or hide if he needed to.

The stone with white markings on the table caught his eye. "Casus, do you think you can find out what this is?"
Nychta Skotadi (played by Sage-Thorne)

Nychta glanced back at Markal's question, then continued on to gather other supplies. She collected a dark blue cloak and a brooch, putting on the cloak and pinning the brooch to it. Similar to Casus's, it glowed blue for a moment, then faded. She went and put on the belt and sash, hooking the pouches to her belt, then reached for some gloves. They were too long in the fingers, so she took a nearby knife and quickly cut off the fingers, before slipping them on, smiling with satisfaction. She would have to change out of her dress and into the travelling clothes when she had a bit of privacy from the boys. She put her clothes into her rucksack for now, and began looking around some more.

She went on to choose out two water skins (in case one broke), five empty vials (who knew when they would need to carry liquids other than water?), a bedroll and blanket, and a leaf blade from the wall and its sheath, hooking the knife onto her belt and putting the other supplies into her rucksack.

"Sure thing." Casus walked over and picked up the item, closed his eyes to learn, and then put it back down. "That's a rift key," he said. "It opens a rift to a destination, in this case, where we need to go, when its put into the slot in a rift stone." He looked at the weapon, "that looks cool, if it is light enough you might want a short sword or dagger, that way you have a secondary weapon." Casus himself fetched a waterskin and then, reluctantly, a short sword. "Iron," he said. "Hopefully we don't have to use these." He meant it in more than just not getting into trouble. He learned, upon picking it up, of the quality sword iron made, and it wasn't the best. They bent rather easily, and could be by stepping on it and bending. "I think all the weapons in here are iron." He placed the two with is collection and thought of what else he would need.

After a moment of thinking Casus gathered the rest of what he wanted and started packing his things. Among what he grabbed was a quiver, short bow, and ten iron arrows. He didn't have any experience with shooting a bow but he thought that it might be good for hunting if any of them learned how to use it, that and he would rather shoot arrows than slash and dash with a sword.
Markal (played by Tolora)

Markal nodded and grabbed a belt and a sheath for a short sword. He wrapped the green cloak around his shoulders and kept it in blace with the last brooch which glowed slightly and faded like the others. He put on the boots and gloves and left the other clothes in the rucksack, waiting like Nychta for a moment of privacy to change into them. He sighed and looked over everything.

If he could've he would've taken everything in preparation of this dangerous adventure, but it was starting to feel heavy as it was. Would they be leaving anything behind that might save their lives in the future? It was too hard to decide and he went back through his things to make sure he didn't forget anything.
Nychta Skotadi (played by Sage-Thorne)

Nychta pulled on her rucksack, testing the weight. She could easily put more things in there, so she glanced at the two boys.

"Do you think we'll need to take lanterns or torches?" she asked, then hesitated. "I don't know if my spell would be of any help... at least not yet." She wondered vaguely if she could just pull up the orb of light at any time... Even if she could, she had just received her powers; she didn't know how long she could even keep a ball of light lit, anyways. In any case, they could need light at night and if they had to go into any caves or caverns.

"Have you tried your spell, does it even work?" Casus asked, pausing on his packing to look up at her. Preparing for this quest had a very surreal feel to it. He picked up his clothing he was going to change into, the fresh ones, a thing he had not had in a long time, and waited by the door to the previous chamber. For now, things seemed to be going well. He slipped out, changed in the other room, out of sight from the door, and slipped back in.
Markal (played by Tolora)

Markal nodded. "I've got room for a few torches." He picked up some cooking utensils too, putting them in the sack. He would've liked to keep the sickle and chain on his belt along with the sword, but he didn't see anything that would attach it. He shrugged and put that in the sack too after wrapping the blade in cloth. At this point he'd probably fight better with a sword anyways. He'd have to practice the other weapon, and the throwing knives too. He grabbed three torches and put them in too.
Nychta Skotadi (played by Sage-Thorne)

"Um..." Nychta glanced down at her hands, trying to think of what she needed to do. After a moment, she sort of just cupped her hands together and concentrated. She waited a bit, then a flicker of light appeared above her palms. She jumped a bit, then cupped her hands again and concentrated harder, closing her eyes this time. A small, dim ball of blue light hovered above her palms, and when Nychta opened her eyes, she gasped. "L-Look! I can do it!" She was grinning from ear-to-ear, ecstatic that she was using magic for the first time. True, it was very weak, but it was still magic!

"What'd I miss?" Casus asked and then looked at her hands. "Excellent!" Casus smiled and fetched two torches himself, putting them in his pack. "So... uh... is everyone almost ready?" He did not actually want to leave but he knew he had to. He picked the stone back up and turned it over and over. He already had knowledge on it so he didn't bother closing his eyes when a random burst or intellect did not shoot through him.
Markal (played by Tolora)

Magna nodded and lifted the rucksak onto his shoulder. "I'm ready as I'll ever be." He was nervous about what was to come and the armor he was still wearing felt strange to him. He suddenly felt impatient to go, ready to discover this land and calm his fears of the unknown.
Nychta Skotadi (played by Sage-Thorne)

Nychta looked around one last time. She was a very practical person, and wanted to take many more things. However, she ended up just grabbing a lantern (if they found a way to light it, it could be reused many times) and some cooking wear (people need to eat!). She put them into her rucksack, then nodded.

"I'm ready, as well." She lifted the rucksack to her shoulders, and walked to the door. Her fears had turned into impatience, like Markal. She was very ready to start their quest; there was no reason to be scared, since there was no backing out of it. "Let's go."

Nodding, Casus walked towards the stone. With each step closer his stomach turned a little more. By the time he reached the stone his stomach had turned into a complicated Celtic knot. He pressed the rectangle into the groove of the stone and stepped back. The white markings let up and a crack seemed to open up in thin air in front of it, like it the air had suddenly turned to glass and someone had hit it in just the right spot. The crack grew into a portal, showing a light forest on the other side.

Casus stepped back. "I'm not going in first."
Markal (played by Tolora)

Markal smiled wryly. "Guess I should. I'm all armored up and all." He drew his sword and hesitantly stepped through. It was a lot like stepping from a cave into the forest. He blinked in the bright sunlight and looked around. He didn't see anything and after waiting a few moments, nothing attacked him. He turned to beckon the others out.
Nychta Skotadi (played by Sage-Thorne)

Nychta watched warily as he stepped through the portal. After he beckoned them, she inhaled deeply and slowly followed after him. She raised a hand to shield her eyes against the intense sunlight and gazed around. What a strange feeling, stepping out of a dark cave into a cheery forest. After a moment, she glanced back at Casus, smiling a bit, waiting for him to follow.

Casus sighed and followed them both through. He was surprised to be in a cheery forest, the quest they were given made it seem like they would be in dungeons. The seer looked around. "So... what ne-" He stopped and took a step back as he was attacked by information. He saw a highlighted trail and their destination. He blinked a few times and kept his eyes open when it was done. "I hate that..." He rolled his eyes. "Anyways, I know where we have to go." Casus pointed through the forst, where the crest of the hill winded into the distance. "We follow the hill top and eventually it will take us to a grove of trees. The gem is somewhere in there."

GAME OBJECTIVE: Follow the hill to find the first gem in the grove Casus mentioned.
