Nychta listened quietly to Casus, then looked to where he gestured. She adjusted her pack on her shoulders and nodded.
"Alright, let's start going, then." She smiled at her two new partners and began walking. She was grateful for the cheery forest; honestly, she had thought their entire quest would be full of damp tunnels and dangerous caves. But the Forest was bright and cheerful, which she liked very much. Even if the rest of the gems were in terrible places, at least the first gem would be relatively easy to get...she hoped.

Markal followed, his sword still in hand. "Well, this seems easy enough." He'd been expecting a dangerous land to look more...dangerous. This forest was actually pretty calming. Maybe the other gems would be in worse places, but it seemed they didn't start out too bad.
Casus stayed in the back of the group. "Until who knows what tries to make a meal of us," he responded negatively to Markal's comment. He didn't usually get out of the city for fear of not being let back in so this was a new experience that kept him on edge, even with with cool breeze and warm sunlight. As they continued down the path he waited for other to initiate conversation, if anyone would, before they were able to spot the grove of trees.

Nychta sort of led the way up the hill, following no path. She was quiet, just focusing on their task now, not too interested in talking, unless one of the boys would strike up conversation. They had a job to do, and she wanted to get it done.
Markal grinned back at Casus. "That's what I'm here for." He followed Nychta, keeping a wary eye out for anything. It stayed calm though. He'd be able to see more once they topped the hill. Perhaps then they'd see what made this land dangerous.
{Since no one has posted, I suppose I will~}
Nychta led the group up to the top of the hill, and began gazing around. She surveyed the area below, looking for any signs of danger, if there were any at all. She looked back to Markal and Casus. "Come on, boys."

Markal followed her up. "How's it look, Nychta?" There was a note of nervousnous in his voice. Hopefully, the task ahead of them would be as easygoing as their walk in the woods was, despite the valkyrie's gloom and doom description.
((My apologies. I was occupied with some stuff in the disgusting realm called life. I am now done dealing with that filthy would and shall continue in this one. Now where were we... Ah, ye! There we are.))
Casus followed closely behind them, only uttering anything if they went a little of course. After what felt like hours to Casus, but was probably actually only one or two, a ring of trees seemed to be illuminated by some sort of light in the distance. The trees were thick and gnarled, not in an ugly way, but more ancient of sorts. "That's it," he said in disbelief that they were still alive and already had found the first gem.
Things would change when they reached the grove, however, and after crawling through large, low lying branches, the trio would stand in the middle of the grove with a large stone circle before them. Intricate lines worked through the stone circle and from the inside the trees seemed to resemble large pillars.
Knowledge flashed and Casus understood, although he didn't say anything. He looked around but didn't see the gem. Broken branches, loose stones, and a small amount of rubble lay across the area. The light itself seemed to come from something under the stone, and lit up the area through the cracks. Casus desided to ignore inspection of that.

{Life? Ugh! I try my best to stay out of there... It's a terrible place.}
Nychta wasn't quite so constrained as Casus, and immediately went to the stone circle, inlaid in the ground, inspecting it scrutinizingly. She squinted slightly and crouched, touching her hands to the cool stone. Assuming nothing happened at her touch, she leaned down towards a crack in the rock and tried to peer through, attempting to see what was inside. However, the light would just blind her momentarily and she would step back, rubbing her eye before looking at the two boys.
"I can't see what's in there," she stated matter-of-factly. "Do you think it's the gem?" She hadn't remembered that Casus could tell them what the orb was, and thus was trying to get information out of either of the boys based solely on brief ponderings.

Markal looked around the area. This place looked pretty old with all the rubble laying around. He circled around the edge, looking at the pillars. The forest may have been nice, but it was strange not to see any animals get. Were they avoiding this place?
He stopped on the edge of the circle, looking towards the inside. He didn't know anything about magic or what this circle might mean. "Probably." He said in answer to Nychta's question. He looked at Casus. "Are you seeing anything?"

Casus shook his head at the gem comment. "I don't think the gem is under the stone, it's too old for that. This is some sort of ancient portal. Been inactive for a long time it looks like." He kicked at a small pile or debris. He looked down inspected the contrast of colors now showing. Those pieces of debri had apparently been there long enough to shield the spot under it from some weathering, leaving a faint tint where they once covered. "So, uh, where do we start looking?"

Markal shrugged and looked in from where he was standing on the edge of the circle. "Maybe it would be easier to see all this if we moved all the debris. Would we need some kind of key again, for the portal?" He moved some of the debris off the circle as he talked.
