Nomti looked around the village quietly. He felt very out of place here... Like extremely. He didn't like being this far away from the sands of Egypt. This land, despite the lush greenery and the abundant variety of animals, was cold to him.
The Anubite was dressed in his combat attire, which was a skirt with vertical red and white stripes with a gold waistband. He had a golden pauldron on his right shoulder and solid, steel bracers on his wrists and golden bands around his ankles.
"Why hasn't anyone come yet?" he wondered aloud. He was standing right in front of an inn as people passed by. He had recently posted up a notice that he was in need of a fighter to accompany him... A furry Egyptian probably attracted a lot of attention, but apparently not a lot of assistance.

Daedrin woke up behind an inn, he was glad no one had noticed it all night and taken him away. He needed a way to make money, so far taking the odd jobs seemed to have worked, but he couldn't find anything else. He hadn't eaten in at least two days, although he had managed to find some scraps. He grabbed the sword laying by his side and stood up. He decided he may as well look for more jobs, how else was he going to make a living?

He walked to the front of the inn and leaned on a large wooden plank as he searched it for jobs. People would nail a variety of notices on this plank since it's in a very public place. Nothing in particular had caught his eye until he found one looking for warriors. He wasn't much of a fighter himself, but he'd take the job, may pay well. He took a quick look at the details and it said that an Anubite would be waiting for whomever would take the job. He wasn't much for teaming up, he usually kept his distance from people, but if this guy were looking for a team of fighters, he just had to make do with what he got.

He took his arm off the wall and turned around just in time to hear the Anubite asking aloud why nobody was showing. He was surprised at what he saw at first, the man really did stick out like the sun in a place like this. This might be the easiest meetup Daedrin has ever had. Daedrin walked over to Nomti still holding the sword in it's sheathe by his side. "Are you the man who placed that notice?" He asked as he pointed towards the board.

The adolescent Anubite raised an eyebrow when the boy approached him. Daedrin looked like he could fight... Maybe if he had a decent meal... But he didn't seem cut out for what he was about to embark on.
"Sorry... I don't think you're particularly fit for this..." the black-furred teen said apologetically, "You're also kinda young..." Nomti's voice made it pretty obvious that he wasn't much older than Daedrin, at least in appearance, "No need for you to be risking your life when you've still got one to lead."

"Not much of one, if you ask me. Besides, I can be fairly helpful if you let me be, and it doesn't look like you have much of a following right now. It seems to me you could use all the help you could get. But if you don't want to use me then that's fine, good luck trying to find any other warrior in a place like this. A place full of fools who wouldn't know what to do if a thief were at their door," Daedrin glanced back over his shoulder to look at the board again. Hopefully he could talk his way into whatever this job is, because there wasn't much else to do. Not even a helper's job, for farming, or even cleaning.

"What kind of a job is it, anyways? Your notice doesn't go into much detail about it. Maybe that's why these idiots avoid it."

"I thought these northern lands were supposed to be full of brave warriors..." he mumbled and rubbed his temples with one hand, his large black ears lain back against his head.
"Fine... You can come. I will provide you with food as you need it, but I need to tell you the subject of this mission once out of this village... Too many ears."

"Well, most of those 'brave warriors' have probably drunk themselves stupid before they'd ever have seen your post," Daedrin's eyes quickly look at Nomti's ears as he mentions that. "Food, right! That sounds good, haven't had a good meal in what feels like years... Alright then, maybe we can get some food in here, then?" He immediately starts walking towards the Inn he pointed back towards after he finished his sentence. He was looking forward to this meal, a meal fit for a king- minus the king's poison testing servant, but it's not like anyone there would want to poison a scruffy little 'brat' like himself.

Nomti raised his eyebrow again, "When was the last time you actually had a meal?" he asked the younger boy and followed him into the inn. He tossed a small pouch of gold coins to Daedrin, "Don't get something too extravagant... This place smells terrible," he scrunched up his nose as he said this, "I don't wanna stay here too long..."

"Well you see, this place is going to be about the best meal I've had in forever," Daedrin walked over to the counter at the far end by the kitchen and ordered his meal. Some drunken guy next to Daedrin starts to wake, then falls over backwards off his chair. Daedrin moves off to one of the nearby tables and waits for his meal. Not too long before the meal arrived, and Daedrin began to dig in. "Don't worry, I'm sure we won't be here too long, besides, it doesn't smell that bad, does it?"

After a while of Daedrin basically pigging out over the food, he had payed the person at the counter beforehand, so he got up and basically signaled to leave. "Okay, so it took a little longer than expected, but we'll live to see this mission of yours."

"You're nose isn't nearly as strong as mine," Nomti countered with a frown plastered on his face but he waited patiently.

The jackal boy was more than ready to leave and he was walking away almost before Daedrin had finished his sentance.
"Disgusting village..." he mumbled.

"Yeah, I couldn't agree with you more. Anyway, you were saying you wouldn't tell me anything until we made it out of the village, but where outside of the village are we going, exactly? Oh, and if you have any better swords than this here, I would greatly appreciate that and may be more effective in battle," He held up the dinky shortsword and unsheathed it a bit. You could see it was slightly cracked in certain spaces, and was covered in dried blood and dirt.

"I found someone had thrown this sword out, so I have been using it for a while. It came with the dried blood for free. Someone didn't take good care of the thing," He placed the sword back in it's sheathe and kept it at his side. He hadn't bothered to put a belt on to strap the sword to today. He said he stays away from people a lot, but it really seems more like people stay away from him.

Nomti remained quiet until they were about a hundred yards out of the town proper before speaking, "I'll give you new weapons. How good are you even with a sword and shield?" he asked, "I'll tell you my mission if you can prove that you're even of any help."

"I'm not too great with a shield, but I can handle a sword well. I tend to throw quick blows at my opponent before backing out of range. When or if the enemy tries getting back into my range, I can act and finish the job," He stared at Nomti for a bit then looked away. "Are you going to test my with words, or test my skills and see for yourself?"

"I full well intend to test your actual skill," Nomti smirked, "Hit that tree five times as fast as you can," he pointed to a large oak.

"With the sword, I take it," He said in a very sarcastic tone. Daedrin walked over to the tree and unsheathed the sword. He threw the sheathe to the ground and once again wondered if this is the day this piece of crap sword will break. He started with an upper diagonal slash from his right side and finished the rest of the blows in quick succession. This left more damage to the sword than to the tree, the sword was blunt as well as bloodied and short.

His speed wasn't legendary, nor is it bad, but it wouldn't make sense for a random person who doesn't have any fighting skills to want to join on a dangerous mission so badly. Daedrin picked up the sheathe on the ground and brushed off some leaves. He sheathed the sword and walked back over to Nomti. "How was that-? Uh... You never gave me a name, and I haven't given you mine. That's a fine start to an acquantainceship, isn't it? I'm Daedrin."

"You're slow... Probably partly due to the blade, partly due to your lack of experience," he said with a sigh. He muttered a few words in Egyptian and a purple orb of light appeared in his right hand. He set the ball of light onto the ground and it dissipated into the earth. The solid dirt became mud, which Nomti shoved his hand into and from the earth pulled out a steel scimitar with a hilt made of a variety of light metals.
"Here. Now try," he handed the new blade to Daedrin, "My name is Nomti. It means strength," he said.

Daedrin is surprised when you pull the scimitar out of the ground, not as surprised as you'd think he would be, though. "Well, thanks for the sword then, Nomti. I've never... Used a weapon like this before," Daedrin states while he gives the weapon a few swings at the air. The weapon has weight, to Daedrin at least. He runs toward the tree again and starts with a swing from his left side that ran horizontally across the tree. His second swing hit with more power and flew diagonally downwards from the right side. His last three hits managed to be faster than the first two.

"This sword... Is amazing. The curve fits for fast movement, the weight is mostly in the tip. It's nice," Daedrin holds the sword at his side, trying to find a place to put it when he isn't using it. "Does this have a... Sheathe, or something?"

"That was faster, but not fast enough," he said, "and you typically just keep those at your side. The way the blade curves would make a scabbard... Impractical," Nomti said.
"In any case, you need to learn how to balance the weight of the blade with your own weight. Watch," the Anubite said and took two sickles, one from each hip, and ran at the tree. After five strikes, the large oak creaked loudly then toppled over, crushing a couple other trees.
"Granted, these are slightly magical, but it was about the form. The better your stance, the better your counterweight to the blade will be and therefore the faster your swings."

"Okay, so all I have to do is be in a fancy position while I fight. Shouldn't be too hard now, right?" He said as he dashed toward a different tree. The next five attacks make nice gashes in the oak tree, and his hits were faster than before, but only by a little bit. Daedrin's stance had changed, but it wasn't as good as it could be with practice.

"Magic, eh? I know a little bit of that, you could say." Daedrin said, sounding slightly out of breath. He turned around and walked back toward Nomti, awaiting his approval of the new strikes at the tree.

(Nomti would make a killer lumberjack... Sorry, continuing.)

"Better... We don't have too much time for this. You'll get better as we go..." he turned and called out, "ESHE!!"
After a couple seconds, a female Anubite jumped down from a tree.
"Are you about to go?" she asked with a frown, "With only one companion?"
"Yep... No one else came," Nomti sighed.
"Well, good luck..." she smiled softly at them, her light blue eyes showing a deep concern, "And here you go..." he handed Nomti a rather large vial and then gave a large bag of fresh, still warm bread to Daedrin.
"I'll see you in warmer sands," Nomti gave her a quick hug.
"In warmer sands..." she nodded and after they broke the hug, she ran off, quickly disappearing into the foliage, headed south.

"Uh, so I take it she's scouting ahead, or, has she departed to a different area? You still haven't told me too much about the mission, either. May as well, we're far from the village now," Daedrin states. The warm bread is in his hands and he looks down at it. "I don't have anything to keep this in, I knew I should have gotten a satchel of some sort."
