Unless you're a complete hermit or something of the like, you've probably heard about the big lab near the edge of Death City. It stands tall, with practically no buildings around it. It's covered in stitches, and even some black arrows can be seen. The place known as the Patchwork Lab is great for horror stories told at slumber parties or things like that, one of the stories most told near Halloween is about the man who lives there. Even if you don't have that many friends or even no friends, you've probably heard this story somewhere. Even just eavesdropping on people around Halloween, you'd hear it once or twice. It goes something like this, though varies from person to person;

"You've heard of that lab, right? Have you heard of the guy who lives there? I heard that if you go to the lab late at night, you can hear noises like someone typing. If you look through the window all you'll see is the light of a computer and the silhouette of a man. A man with a screw stuck in his head. They say if you go there on Halloween it's very dangerous, they say the place is haunted by him!"

Another story is the one time a kid got into the house. "He crawled through a window that was open and fell into this room. He'd seen a man. A tall man with grey hair and... A screw in his head! But the worst part was that when he turned around, his chest had been pulled open! Like he was preforming surgery on himself!"

The story goes on for a while, and this time --even if you don't have a friend to persuade you-- you somehow got wrangled into going with a group of kids to the lab just to see if the rumors are true. As you approach the place, you felt a shudder go down your spine. Even if you try to leave, the ring leader of the group would coerce you into getting to the window to look inside...
Though, you could suggest actually knocking on the door...

"C-can we please get out of her the cat girl asked nervously, a very fearful tone in her voice, "This place creeps me out..."
"What's wrong Mariah? Finally found something that scares you?" one boy asked.
"Y-yes... And that should bother you all too!" she huffed and stamped a foot-paw indignantly on the ground. She usually had her whole tough girl act up for just about everything, but she was honestly terrified of this place. She had only moved to the city about two months prior and there wasn't a lot she liked about it. "Death" City isn't exactly what you might call an inviting name. "Let's at least just go in the front door, please?"

After much groveling you'd probably get them to go to the door instead of looking through the window to see whatever 'horrors' lay inside this mysterious lab.
The doorknob is frozen, and the lights flicker slightly as you approach the door. "You knock!" One girl suggested, clinging to her bag of candy. You don't know, maybe this guy is just really into Halloween or something, maybe he'll give you candy for your troubles. After all, it was a long way here just to see a single haunted laboratory.

A wind blew through and rustled the candy-filled bags, an odd silence was all that was there. Though if you get close enough to the door you DO hear someone typing on a computer.

Xeron was in the middle of the crowd of kids, he was supposed to be watching over them, but he was mostly here for the candy. Apparently it's seen as strange for adults to go around trick or treating by themselves. So this was the only way Xeron could get some candy, and he was stuck in this small crowd of kids who came up to his knees or maybe even his waist.

He heard two kids in the front talking about the house and shuddered. Even this was getting on his nerves. It was the house alright, with the stitches. It's so hard to tell what stories are real in a world like this, he thought. As they inched closer to the door, Xeron tried to block off those thoughts with other thoughts, more like daydreams really. Dreams of Reeses and donuts and Milk Duds, Oh my!

The 16 year old cat looked at the other girl and her sharp ears indeed picked up the sound of typing. Her eyes went wide and she took a few steps back, "No! No way am I doing that!" she protested, "I-I can hear the typing... Someone is typing..." she whimpered, "Someone else do it."

"What? No way you're that scared!" She frowns, rubbing her head. Shakily she steps to the door, coughing "I-I'm not that scared, see? I'll knock!" She lifts her hand, ready to knock, then pulls her hand back and hides behind you. These children seem quite scared just to knock on a door.

Xeron sighed, because humans let every little emotion get to them. Especially the small ones. He walked straight up to the door, despite his own fear, showing clear as day due to the fact that he was shaking all over. Wait, never mind, that might just be all the candy he's consumed. Xeron starts rapidly knocking with both hands on the door. He kept doing this until the door opened.

It takes a while but the door opens. A tall man by the same description as the stories was behind the door, staring down at the floor. "What..."
He looks old. Creases beneath his eyes, grey hair, tired eyes that are hardly visible behind his glasses, and a weary voice. The man looks exhausted, like he's never slept a night in his life. You've probably forgotten why exactly you're there in the first place now.

Due to Xeron's spazzy brain, he noticed and hesitated for about two seconds before yelling, "Trick or treat!" right in Stein's face. Xeron was about as tall as Stein, but looked about an inch taller with his boots on. Xeron had decided to go trick or treating as something he hates more than anything, and thought it'd be the perfect thing to go as. Because fear and hate are the same thing, right? All Xeron had that was different than his usual clothes were these cat ears they usually sell in stores on his head.

What the... He thought, staring at the cat-person oddly. "Uh... I don't give out candy.." He runs a hand through his silvery hair, grabbing a cigarette from his pocket and looking for a lighter. The cigarette hangs in his mouth while he searches, and with a couple flicks, he lit it. He starts to close the door "You kids can go someplace else, I don't want you here. I'm very busy."

"No candy? Really? But, it's Halloween! Y'know, Trick or Treating and stuff! Costumes and scary stuff and more!" Xeron goes on to list many different parts of Halloween in excruciating detail. He states too many things than I care to write at this moment.

"No. No candy. When you experience things that are scary to other people so much that it doesn't scare you, you tend not to like things like this. Commercialized pieces of shit.." He mutters begrudgingly.

"I've had plenty of scares in my life, that's why something like this is so amazing! I mean seriously, humans take something completely horrible like ghouls, ghosts, and reanimation, and they balance it out with candy! They make these experiences for their kids, so that when they grow up they'll be scared of less, right? No, I don't really know... It could just be a meaningless holiday chock full of candy, but who knows, really!"

"I still don't have candy... So if you don't mind I need to get back to my work."
He turns towards his computer across the room, sighing. "Sorry , kid."

Mariah's tail went between her legs and her ears went flat against her skull. Her eyes were wide with fear, which gradually diminished as the man spoke, "What... What exactly is your work?"

His reply was short. "Reanimation.."

"Like... Raising the dead?" she asked worriedly.

"That would be the definition of reanimation wouldn't it?" He glares at you slightly.

The cat whimpers and looks away under his gaze, "B-but why? That's... That's not right..."

"It's an experiment. Now won't you leave? I need to get this done.. It's very important to me that I do..!"
