Her head hung to the side, her eyes heavily dilated as she stared up at the man. Long red lines began cutting down her cheeks from eyes. Her hair seemed to grow down a few inches and the cracking of chains became much louder.

Leliana's hands clenched as she turned her gaze to the judge once again, the sound of swords being drawn as this was noticed.

The judge seemed as calm as ever, even as he watched her slowly loosing what little control she had left from sitting through days of endlessly waiting for him to sit in his **** chair.

When he finally spoke she calmed slightly, turning her gaze down completely as she listened. Their fate in the hands of the judge.

Sam looked at her and smiled as much as he could, his swollen cheek made it hard for him to do so "Don't worry" he said looking at her with calm eyes.

"As you all should already know, these two are, a hybrid if you may" The judge said out loud as he spoke to the Jury and audience "What we're here to discuss is not a crime but an to discuss options" What a strange thing this case was, if not to evaluate a crime, why hold this in a court room?

"This case however was a matter of urgency, these two hybrid are either the bringers of quick extinction. Or the two most valuable things to happen to us, rays of hope that we all need" he said looking down to his Jury.

"Sir! do you believe these two nature's outcasts are hopes of our freedom?" The opposing lawyer asked the judge.

"I do not know what to believe" the judge replied looking down at both of them "From first sight they look mere children, made from flesh and bone"

"You're honor" Ben took a stand for Sam and Lily "These two are just as you say, Human children born and raised. In fact, what i saw showed me these two have more humanity than any of us in the room"He approached the centre and looked up at the judge "you may think they are only monsters but i have grown up with Sam. We played together and laughed together since we were 4" He exclaimed

"Preposterous!" yelled the opposing lawyer "These beasts destroyed half a town"

"But they defeated more titans than any of our units could, They did it without losing their own lives and risking the lives of others" Ben glanced back at Sam and Lily Before continuing "We have never had such a high success rate... ever"

Leliana calmed at the sight of his smile and seized tugging on her chains. The lines disappeared from her face and she look up at the judge. Her head turned as one of Sam's friends stood up for the both of them.

"Your honor. There is something I must say."she said once Ben had stopped talking. She paused for a moment before saying,"Before I first shifted I belonged to the survey corp. I ranked as one of the best and even became a Corporal. I still have that same...loyalty to our future and the fire to kill all those damn monsters!!! Even if I must become one of them myself..."

"Please, put your trust into me...into us! So we can leave these walls and claim what is ours. As ourselves we are too weak...we get crushed and devoured but if we use these powers to their full extent. Nothing can stand in humanities way! That is all."she said, her voice filled with confidence.

The judge did a small nod indicating he took what she said into account "This may be true, it doesn't change the fact that she 'WAS' a corporal. If she was the best of the best, nwhy isn't she tee wit them now? dead of old age as they're now?!, why is she not remembering anything after coming out of that titan body of hers" the Lawyer Explain to the judge "your honor, it's clear that when we saw this...Beast... she didn't know different from the others, in fact, your honor, i have witnesses"

The lawyer gestured his hand to the guard to bring in the witnesses, it was the child Lily saved and her mother. "These two were attacked by It" he pointed at Lily in disgust.

"I Object!" Sam yelled, anger peaking it's limit

"OVERRULED!" The judge yelled back "Wait for him to finish!"

"Thank you, sir" The lawyer's smug smile engraved into Sam's brain as he looked back at the lawyer with daggers in his eyes "As i was saying, these two beautiful ladies witnessed the horrifying acts That monster did"

The girl stepped forward but her mother pulled her back and held her hand over her mouth "Your honor" the mother began to speak "It's true, she was about to eat my darling baby. she pulled her from me" the woman's fake tears were easily seen through by Sam, Lily and his team "If it wasn't for the survey corps my baby would be dead, their sacrifice will always be remembered..." Sam's anger peaking as she spoke, he looked at Lily and saw how calm she was being.

Sam let himself calm down and breathed deeply getting rid of his anger "as you can see your honor" the lawyer continued "She did, in fact be a Corporal, But that was Way back when her humanity was actually with her. Now she is just as mindless as she was when she was a Titan"

"And where exactly did you get the idea I remember nothing? Honestly, if you suddenly came out of searing hot flesh your mind might be a bit scrambled for a good while but I can tell you right now. I remember. Every. Moment. From when I first turned to the second I met Sam and his squad."

"...And mindless you say? Let's see...someone who is mindless acts on no emotion and stumbles its way onward correct? That's what a normal titan is referred to. But something mindless can also act on only one emotion. For yourself, it's the need to watch others be helpless at your feet."her eyes were steady on the man who was against their existence. She turned her gaze to the child with a soft smile,"If you are trying to shove the idea of me having no emotion down the others then you are a monster yourself. But that's fine. I know I saved this girl and I don't regret my actions."she turned her eyes to Sam.

She sighed deeply though a smile still on her lips,"Do with me what you will but this boy has so much potential. And if you need evidence of his emotions then I'll happily give it."she sat back on her heels, waiting for the judges opinion.

Jack's eyes quickly turned to her "what..." He whispered looking at her with serious eyes. "I won't let you touch her!!" Jack yelled turning to the judge "I'd rather die than see anyone hurt my friends" his eyes fixed on the judge.

The judge listened carefully, she spoke true at the very end and it seemed they both would fight for each other's lives "your right" the judge shifted his gaze to Lily "but you're both in this. Any decision I make will be for both of you" his calm voice was surprising, he wasn't pressured at all.

"Your honor" Nicole said standing up "please, if you choose to end their lives... Then I do not wish to live also" she said sitting down besides Sam.

"N-Nicole..." He muttered looking at her with sad eyes.

The little girl was able to free herself from her mother's grip, she ran to Lily and stopped opposite her before smiling softly and giving her a kiss on the cheek and a tight hug "thank you" her little voice whispered. The girl turned and looked up at the judge nervously "mister white haired man?" She named the judge after his white wig "she didn't try to hurt me... She saved me" with that, the little girl sat beside Lily implying that she was against Lily and Sam's execution if the choice ever came to that. Ben, Jenice and Clease also sat down besides the other 4 "we will give our lives for each other" they all said in sync.

"...guys..." Sam looked up at looked both sides at his friends. All of them willing to fight for his and Lily's life.

Lelianas eyes widened at the little girl as she was hugged tightly and broke into a smile, giving her a gentle hug in return. She felt something wet drip down her cheeks and instead of wiping her eyes let herself silently cry. She couldn't remember the last time people had stuck so firmly to the shifters side. She turned her eyes up to the judge, smiling softly up to him.

She was prepared for whatever decision they were presented with, whether it be death or a chance to help humanity,"Well what is it judge? Kill all of us or another chance?"she said once she had calmed odwn, confidence evident in her voice.

Sam turned raised his head and smiled softly, taking Nicole's and Lily's hands "would you kill teenagers?" He looked left and right at his friends then back up to the judge "that's just be a massacre"

"Yeah" the judge took in a deep breath "I guess your right mister Bartowski" he took a sip of his herbal tea and stood up "I guess we're done, you're all a assigned to the recon corps" he put on his black robe and headed for the exit "don't make me regret my decision Mr Bartowski" the judge said stopping along side him. He helped Sam up and walked out of the room

"Unbelievable!" The opposing lawyer said in a relieved tone, he loosened his tie Waved his hand in front of his to cool down "Mr Bartowski, lailiana, I am SO very sorry for that..." He said as he approached them all "I was paid by a client whom I cannot mension to fight against you both, I truly am VERY sorry that I did that" Sam wasn't happy but be took the benefit of the doubt

"alright I guess"

"Thank you" the lawsuit said shaking Sam's hand with excitement "all the best"

Leliana gave his hand a soft squeeze as she broker put into a wide grin as their case was closed. She the little girl another hit, thanking her softly before she gently ushered her back to her mother,"Stay sweet darling."she said as she waved good bye to her.

The shifter wiped her eyes with her sleeve and sighed thankfully as her handcuffs were removed. She rubbed her wrists as she stood to her feet. Once settled she looked to Sam and couldn't resist giving him a high,"Thanks, kid. You saved the both of us. You guys too."she said, tilting her head high with pride as she used to when she was still a corporal but that didn't stay long since she was surrounded by friends.

Leliana accepted the green cloak with the wings of freedom sewed to the back, slinging it over her shoulders "Ah, I can't wait for more fights with you Sam.next time, let's compete."she said with a wink.

Sam's smile was soon to dissappear, his eyes looked to his friends, their eyes filled with sadness as their smiles faded. Nicole began to tear up and quietly sobed on Janice's shoulder who was comforting her as much as trying to deal with the pain herself.

"Yeah we can sometime" he gave her a broken smile "But i have a funeral to do..." he stuffed his hands in his pockets. His hair shadowing his eyes as he made his way towards the door. The rest of the crew followed after him, Nicole sniffling as Jenice tried to comfort her a little. Clease placed a gentle hand on Leiliana

"Come with us, we have a place for you to stay" he said giving her a small, almost smile and followed after the rest.

Sam made his way home, his squad lived in the same house as him, they all bought it together to survive when they were young. Ben opened the door and felt the cool air nip at his skin as he entered. The others followed after him, not a single word from them as they watched the broken, hidden and miserable Sam slowly head towards the wooden table. He pulled up a chair and fell into it, putting his elbows on the table and his head into his hands, making sure his face was hidden from the rest

"I needed to be strong for you guys... so i pretended like it never happened... I'm a monster..." His voice was broken as spoke. He was morning the death of his beloved "Jennifer trusted me with her life... I couldn't protect her... she joined... because of me..."

Lelianas smile faltered as soon as Sam's did. Her eyes glossed over and she slipped back into her shell. She glanced to his friends with a slight nod, following after them hesitantly.

Her fingers played at a golden band on her her wrong finger, she gazed down at it sadly before she took a deep breath and looked forward.

She was silent the entire walk as well, entering timidly. She looked around, feeling as though she was intruding on others lives. That faded quickly when she heard Sam.

"What...oh..."she mumbled, piecing things together by what he said. Leliana walked over, sitting across from him. She slipped off the golden band and placed it on the table across from him,"If you'll listen...I'd like to try and help."

Sam didn't move at all, all they could see was the rise and fall of his chest. A tear streamed down his cheek and circled down his forearm. His sredded sleeves soaked up the tear as it streamed to his elbow.

He continued to stay quiet, not wanting to say a word, his breathing was calm but he felt like dying. Finally after shedding some silent tears, he walked off into his room, ignoring everybody icluding Leliana. He turned to shut the door slowly, his fist curled into a ball. Seconds later the door clicked, he'd locked it from inside.

Behind his door the group could hear smashing and banging, Ben was silently crying himself but he kept a straight face, he slowly shook his head at Leliana saying 'Not yet'.

Sam eventually ran out of things to break and throw, he let out the last bit of rage with a scream.

Leliana didn't even flinch at his actions as she listened to sounds of breaking objects and screams. She plucked the ring off the table before she got to her feet,"I understand how he feels..."she stroked the ring with a shaky hand before her hand curled around it.

She turned away from his friends, wishing she could offer them some words but all she could mutter was,"I'm so sorry..."before she herself broke down. Her head slumped forward as she pressed her clenched fist to her heart, dropping down to her knees. She let out a choked sob, a hand quickly covering her mouth to prohibit anymore.

This grief hurt like a sword through her heart, she knew just what they were going through. Losing a loved one they never got to fully love. It was the worst pain a human can go through, and she wished desperately they didn't have to go through that pain. It broke her heart to see them lose a friend, so young and full of so much hope and promise.

The crying in Sam's room became evident. His tears streamed out just as hard as he tried keeping them in. His left hand rubbing his eyes and a picture of him and the team... "I... I did this..." He said to himself, Jennifer looked so happy in the picture... "I would give my life... Just to see you smile one last time"

Clease and Nicole got on their knees trying to comfort Leliana "shh, hey don't cry. It happens" Nicole whispered. Nobody said anything about what Nicole just said, it was the honest true.

Eventually Sam opened his room door, his hair was messy and still covering his eyes. He walked out into the living room and sat at the table once again, his head hung low "Lily..." His voice was quiet

"Thank you for everything... Could you please help me and the gang bury her?... She'd want that, you're part of us now..." He looked up at her, his right eye wasn't completely covered. They were still cloudy and... Broken...

Leliana's shoulders shook and she nodded slightly at Nicole's words. She just needed her own time to mourn, for the lost love she never got to marry...nor say goodbye to before she turned into a monster.

When she managed to pull herself to herself together she wiped her eyes. Her fingers ran back through her hair so she could look Sam. Her lower lip quivered at his words but she forced herself to calm down,"O-Of course...I would be honored." She patted both her friends hands before she stood, slipping her engagement ring back on, enjoying the friendly weight.

Sam nodded and wiped his tears. He got ready into an all black suit, as did the rest of the gang. Nicole lended one of her black outfits to Leliana. Sam went out alone for a while, he needed to get something's together before he'd bury whatever they'd found that was once Jennifer.

He'd made his way to a nearby garden and felt the cold breeze hit him as he approached the tulip bed. He plucked a few and put them together then wrapped then they her with some string

From his pocket he pulled out A plain gold ring and placed it inside a lone rose which he put into his blazer pocket. That gold ring was a 3 year long process to get, they weren't rich and before getting into the recon corps they had to do odd little jobs to survive.

He took in one last deep breath, the sweet scent filled his nostrils one last time. He remembered how Jennifer and him used to come here whenever they were alone together. He made his way home shedding silent tears Before wiping the last of his tears as h e got to the front door. The squeak of the door made everyone turn their heads "ready?" He asked quietly

She accepted the clothes silently, walking into the bathroom to change. She thought back to when she had last attended a funeral, thoughher memory was still fuzzy. It was a comrade of hers from an expedition, she remembered. Something that still made her heart hurt from the thoughts.

She fixed her hair in the mirror, sighing softly before she stepped out of the bathroom and rejoined them. In a way, it felt strange to attend a stramgers funeral but...if she is one of them like they said then she would respect their wishes and join them.

Leliana turned her head as Sam entered, her eyes falling on the strange flowers in his hands but kept silent. Her head turned down as she followed them outside. She took a deep breath of the night air, a few memories stirring. the shifter followed a few steps after them as they headed off to her burial, her mind lost in old memories.

Sam was leading them to them to the flower field where he was just at, he took them to one side where there was a freshly dug grave and a shovel resting besides it. The grave was underneath arching trees that circled around it, the tree's were beautifully arched enough to seem like they'd keep out most rays of sunlight.

Sam stood buy her grave stone which had her name engraved on It and something underneath "love not those who have left, love those who're with you now and the memories they'll leave" that was her favorite quote, she'd say it all the time when she'd think about something upsetting.

Sam saw the carriage with her coffin approach the grave, one of the guards stepped out of the driver's seat and bowed to them all "I am truly sorry for your loss" he said, his face indicating that he'd seen the same thing happen too many times for one person to handle. Sam nodded his head and slowly made his way to the back of the carriage, the flowers resting on the tomb stone.

"Let's get this in there" he said, broken, to the others. They all lifted the coffin and placed it inside the grave.

Each of them placing an item of value and meaning on her coffin. Sam placed the bouqet of Lilies and a photo if him, her and the gang on the coffin the. Slowly placed the rose onto the coffin as well "I wish I'd asked sooner" he whispered as the ring tapped the coffin from inside the rose.

Leliana kept at the back of them, looking over her shoulder as she heard the soft noise of a carriage pulling up.

Her eyes dimmed as she helped then lift the coffin. How young had this girl been? What hops had she hard for the future with Sam? These question woke something inside her.

As it came time for each to leave a parting gift she walked over last. She got down onto her knees, a hand gently touching the top of the gravestone,"I'll keep them all safe, I promise you...rest for a while now. You've done your duty."she stood, placing her fist over her heart in salute to the fallen soldier.

Leloana joined Tue others afterward, a spark of confidence in her eyes as she looked at them. She wouldn't allow any harm, not even of her legs are broken or her arms are torn. They will live, she vowed it.

The sky darkened above them, it felt like the sky was reacting to their sadness and their loss. The sky started to thunder as rain started. The rain hit floor hard as it came down heavily.

All except Nicole and Jenice were shedding their tears silently whilst the two girls cried on their knees at the foot of the grave. Sam looked over at them and walked up behind them then placed gentle hands on their shoulders, soaked from head to toe he knelt down besides them and sniffled.

"I...Im sorry..." He whispered, the thunder grew louder but the tree's only let in a little bit of rain enter the grave. Nicole and Jenice didn't say anything, instead, Nicole turned and hugged him tightly as she wept. Jenice leaned back into him and wept also. Sam kept his composure as much as possible, his tears blending in with the drops of rain. Ben and Clease watched them 3, Ben placed a soft hand on Leliana's shoulder "thanks, She appreciates it. we all do" he whispered.

The rain didn't let up, in fact it started to fall faster. Eventually everybody cried their eyes out, all except Sam decided to return home. He picked up the shovel lying besides the grave and started to cover the coffin

"I... It was me...." He wept louder as He was alone

"You died... Because I was selfish..." He continued to shovel

"I didn't listen... It was my fault..." He continued until it was fully covered, his eyes were a light shade of red as he sat in the wet sand puddle, his black clothes were stained a light brown. He let out one last scream into the darkness of the sky, it echoed all the way home...
