Jinx walked along the narrow roads of the city, not destination in mind. She wore light clothes, a tank-top and a pair of jeans with some boots, even though it was Autumn. She turned a corner into a narrow alley way with little light and saw a poor excuse of a man huddled in the corner. "Out." She demanded, hand on the small knife at her hip. She didn't want any mortal men interfering with her work or hiding in her alley. The man left the alley and she sat down on the rags that was her bed, stretching her legs out in front of her. She grabbed a pan that sat beside her bed, full of water, and put it over the fire for a while, heating it up for some soup.
After a while of sitting there, she got bored and smothered the fire. Jinx got up and walked out of the alley once again, the low in the sky. She looked both ways and fixed her shirt so it was covering her lower back once again and walked aimlessly towards a fruit vendor at the end of the street. She threw a rock near the cart and carefully stole a couple yellow apples for breakfast. Jinx knew she wasn't perfect, but she only took what she needed. Once she had her apples, she walked towards the center of the town carefully avoiding the police and other pedestrians.

"I don't think that's yours," came a voice from behind Jinx and a black, furry hand rested on her shoulder. The appendage pulled back on her, forcing her to come face to face with a wolf boy of the same age. He had a small smile on his face, though not one that was malicious or tricky. It wasn't one of someone who would rat her out for their own benefit.
The wolf was well dressed, not in a fancy way, but it was obvious he had more than one pair of clothes. His current apparel was a pair of jeans that went down to his toes, which were sticking out the bottoms, a plain, grey t-shirt and a red, white and black plaid button-down which was open.
"Here," he said and put some money in her hand, "Go pay for the apples."

"I don't need help from others." Jinx said ruefully as she was turned around by the boy, but she took a couple steps towards towards the fruit stand nevertheless and discreetly put the money on the counter. Even though she stole food to survive, she didn't steal in huge quantities, or things she didn't need. "I was just hungry." She retorted back at the anthro, taking a bite out of the apple in her hand. She tried to step around the boy and tried to continue her way to the center of town.
"Sometimes it's better to grovel and beg than to steal," Andrew countered, "I understand what you're saying though..." he sighed, "Would you like to have a warm meal? I'm a decent cook, if you're interested."
Jinx sighed and continued walking, pretending to not hear his first statement. When she hear his offer however, she turned around in the street and crossed her arms over her chest. "Are you messing with me?"
"Nope," he shook his head, "I can make some pretty good hamburgers," the canine smiled and wagged his tail.
Taken aback she agreed. "Ok, I'll have a hamburger." She said unsure. Nobody had ever offered her a free meal before and she was curious why this boy did. "So why you in the market?" She asked, trying to keep the conversation from hitting an awkward silence.
"Just looking around," he shrugged and led her away from the area and towards a main street then to a gray, 2001 Toyota Camrey. He pulled the keys out of his pocket and unlocked the doors, allowing her to enter then slid into the drivers seat.
Jinx slid into the front seat and rested her head against the headrest, savoring the feeling of the leather. She stayed silent as he got in, and glanced out the window at all the people in the street.
He started the car up and started driving down the road, "So, what's your name?" he asked with a kind tone, "I'm Andrew."
"Jinx." She said, not offering a last name or any other info. She watched the scenery to by and crossed her feet under the dashboard.
"Pleasure to make your acquaintance. Wanna listen to anything on the radio?" he asked, "Tube it to whatever you want... As long as its not rap, please."
"Ok..." Jinx said unsure as she changed the dial to a country station. "So...." She started awkwardly. "Where do you live, Andrew?" She asked quietly.
He probably should have denied country as well, and his ears flattened a bit as the music reached his ears, but he didn't really show it.
"I live in a house about an hour from here with two brothers, a sister and both my parents. They're all visiting my grandparents for the weekend though."

"Oh." Jinx replied, still staring out the window as if she wasn't even listening. "Are you sure it's alright?" She asked again, curious of why he invited her in the first place.
"Well, it's alright as long as my parents don't find out," he chuckled, "But they won't be back until Monday and it's only Saturday. You could probably stay the night too, if you need a place to sleep."
Jinx was startled when he said she could stay, but recovered. "I'm ok, some people are expecting me somewhere tonight." She replied vaguely.
"Really?" he asked with a raised eyebrow, "I don't intend to sound mean or rude, but who?"
"Some...... Friends." She replied sounding like she was lying. Truthfully, she didn't know whether she could call them friends after all the times they ratted her out to the cops. "I'm supposed to be going somewhere with them." She told a small lie. She wouldn't be going anywhere with them this time.
"For some reason I don't believe you…" he said quietly, "But I've got no control over what you do," he shrugged, "If you wind up needing a place to go, you can come to my place, but you and only you," he cautioned.
