A young girl stood on a stage in the middle of a town square, people surrounding her and pushing her further and further to the front. None of them wanted to be first picked. The girl was wearing a dirty white dress and her hair hung in two pink braids that framed her small cheekbones. She wore a name tag around her neck that said Lacey in neat cursive writing, and chains at her feet that rattled with every step. She had been a slave since she was very young and had learned not to escape or to disobey. She had actually tried once, that was why she had two long scars across her back.

A man mounted the stage with a microphone in hand, and started the auction. "We have here 29 fine slaves for your needs and enjoyment. Highest bidder gets the slave!" He shouted before the girl, Lacey, was pushed up to the front of the stage where the man was standing. He gave her an evil glare and called a low bid of $100 to start. Nobody raised the bid any higher. The man tried to bribe them into buying her, but to no avail. Finally he called out one more bid, lower then the last at a measly $50.

Dmitri watched silently from the background. These events left a bad taste in the feline's mouth.
The armored khajiit raised a hand and tossed a bag of gold coin to the ground, "75 gold coins for that one," he pointed to Lacey and waited to see if anyone would challenge him.

The man smiled and barked at one of the many men standing by the stage to collect the coins and bring them up. There were no other bidders for a little girl that looked weak. The man counted the coins silently and once he was finished he pushed Lacey off the low stage and proceeded with the next slave. Another of the men came and grabbed Lacey around the arm and escorted her to the man that had paid, roughly dragging her through the crowd. Once she was in front of him, the guard left and went back to the stage leaving Lacey staring at the ground in front of her new master.

The snow-leopard esque man knelt down in front of her and used the key the guards had given him to unlock her Shackles on her ankles.
"Come along, little one," he said softly, with a comforting tone and took her little hand in his big one, "I will take you home," said Dmitri and he began to lead her away.

Lacey stared at the man who bought her, never having seen a man quite like him before. She nodded slowly, oblivious to him undoing her shackles. What really got her was the comforting tone he talked to her in. Gathering up all her courage, she dared asked him a simple question. "Why did you buy me, sir?" She asked quietly, her hand still in his.

"Because you're young. You should not be a slave, you should be a child," he gave her hand a gentle squeeze, "I will raise you as a daughter... If you wish."

Lacey smiled and nodded ecstatically. "I would like that." She said, trying to match his pace so she wouldn't fall behind. "Where you live" She asked curiously, looking up at him.

If he wasn't fully armored, he would pick her up, but he didn't want to accidentally hurt her on the spikes, "I live sort of far away. It will be a few days. What is your name, little one?"

"Lacey." She said. "Why do you live far away?" She asked.

"Because I live in a different city," he answered, "I like that city the most."

"Oh, Ok." Lacey said brightly, practically skipping. She watched the stares of people as they passed by them. She looked down at herself and noticed how dirty her hair and dress was, but she didn't really care anymore.

"We'll stop by at a general store and get you some new clothes too, okay?" he smiled warmly down at her.

"Ok." Lacey said happier. "Whats your name?" She asked. She had a million questions and was choosing the most important ones.

"My name is Dmitri Yashklov," he announced, "You may ask anything you'd like," he grinned, seeing that she was about to burst with questions, "Just... Only ask one ir two things at a time."

"Ok." She nodded, glad she could ask questions without sounding like a pest. "Why are you dressed in armor?" She asked.

"Because I'm a mercenary. People can pay me to fight for them," he said and pounded the chest plate with a fist. The armor was made out of solid dragon bone, from his helmet, which was currently hanging at his side, to his boots.

"But isn't fighting bad?" She asked, gingerly poking the helmet handing from his side with her free hand. They continued down the street, she thought they were going to go to the clothing shop before they left town but wasn't sure.

"Maybe," he shrugged, "But I make it a profit," he said with a shrug and led her out of the town and to the stables, where a white mare was waiting for him. She pawed lightly at the ground and whinnied when she saw him.
"This is, Mina," he said to Lacey. The horse leaned her head down and sniffed Lacey.

Lacey frowned when he said he made it a profit. She was about to say something when the words were lost in her mouth when she saw the horse. "It's a horse." She said with a smile as Mina sniffed her. She giggled and gingerly brought her hand up to pet her, careful not to startle her.

Mina snorted then nudged her snout into Lacey's hand whinnied quietly before raising her head. Dmitri smiled and lifted Lacey up and onto Mina's back then climbed up and sat behind her.
