Sterling was trying to be a good father, really, he was. But somehow when it came to spending father-son quality time together, fate was against him every time. Taking his six-year-old son, Hunter, out to ice cream had been a great idea. Up until the vampires showed up. Why vampires were even lurking around the ice cream stand in the first place was beyond Sterling's comprehension.
They'd been sitting on a bench, eating quietly--well, he had been eating quietly as Hunter garbled on and on about school and friends and the new puppy he'd made friends with from someone near the school, when he was suddenly aware that several strangers were lingering nearby. The most noticeable thing about them was that they weren't eating ice cream; and while they ditched the traditional trenchcoat, boots, and wide-rim hats for more general fare of jeans and long-sleeved shirts, Sterling hadn't forgotten the smell of vampire. There was a certain dried-blood smell which clung to them much as cigarette smoke did to a smoker. Sterling had been familiar with the smell in the past, and smelling it now, made his nose wrinkle up, distracting him from eating his icecream to turn and look at the strangers suddenly around him and Hunter.
"-and then during recess, I found a really cool bug that made Ginny freak out-" said Hunter, before Sterling interrupted him.
"Hunter, why don't we go walking and you can tell me more about this bug?" Sterling asked, standing up and offering his hand to Hunter. Hunter paused and looked at him and he could see in his big brown eyes the question of why. But Hunter was a good kid and switched his cone to his other hand to take Sterling's in his sticky one.
Of course the vampires had to attack when Sterling wasn't carrying anything on him. And they weren't so much vampires as they were cronies who worked for vampires. Thus why they were out in daylight while the vampires were safely tucked away. The attack came swiftly and Sterling only had time to throw a few punches, downing two of the men, before he realized Hunter was nowhere near him.
"Hunter!" he bellowed, giving chase after the two who had grabbed his son. Hunter was kicking and flailing and had smeared a good portion of his ice cream against one of his abductors, before a van pulled up from out of nowhere, a door sliding open to pick up the three of them, before driving off, leaving Sterling alone with two of the downed abductors. He whirled on the closest one, kneeling down to grab him by the collar and shake him. Anger didn't even begin to cover what he was feeling. "Who are you? Where did you take my son?!"
----
Meanwhile, Hunter was bound hand and foot, gagged, and blindfolded, before he was unloaded out of the van, roughly man-handled, and then thrown into a cold, cement cell. His bonds had been cut loose at least, and he ripped the blindfold off as he turned and threw himself at the bars of his cell. "Daddy! Daddy, where are you?" His plaintive cry echoed and he didn't even look to see if he was alone--because who else would possibly be unlucky enough to share his fate?

Kali had a worse fate than being capitive. She had been torchered and beaten. Only a few minuets ago, she had been tossed in, her head slamming into the concrete. Now she had a concusion as well asseveral bleeding slices in her back from a whip. With her long, flowing red hair, it almos didn't seem like she was bleeding. She didn't react at first to Hunter but slowly began to wake from her pained slumber. She shifted just enough to sit up slightly and looked over at the boy withher dark eyes , her kind face catching the faint firelight." A-are you okay?" Her voice was scratchy and full of agony but she stayed where she was, the darkness hiding her stained sgirt and dirt covered pants.
----
Emblem had been tracking down this vampires for days, wanting to catch and make them tell her where Kali was. It had been easy since she was an Angel but ard because of the humans. And nw a human was interogating them. She stayed in the shadows of a nearby tree, watching and waiting for the location.

Hunter shivered and turned, pressing his back against the bars of his cell when he heard the voice. He searched the darkness with wide eyes, terrified already and about ready to wet himself.
"Who-who's there?" he asked, his voice catching in fear. He knew he should be brave, but that was a lot to ask of a seven-year-old who had been kidnapped and stuck in a jail. "What are you?" He hoped it wasn't another vampire. Or worse. Not that he was sure how much worse it could get. "You're not going to eat me are you?"
Sterling's prisoner laughed, or coughed rather, and spat at him. Sterling turned his head aside in time to avoid it, but his grip turned painful and the man beneath him winced.
"Tell me, or so help me, I will start dismembering you." He let go with one hand, reaching towards a back pocket with the other.
"W-wait!" the man beneath him cried out. "We were supposed to take him back with us to our master."
Sterling's grip tightened. "Who's your master? Why Hunter?"
The man's large eyes only looked fearful. "Our master has no name, none I 'eard of anyway. And he wants the kid to imprint on 'im or something."
Surprise crossed Sterling's face. "Imprint? Not to be fed on?"
A faint smile crossed the other man's face. "Not immediately, no."
Sterling growled and shook the man. "Where did you take him? Where is this master of yours holed up? Tell me!"
"What, you gonna storm the place?" the man coughed again, wincing as his head cracked against the ground. "No--some warehouse way out. Out beyond the city. Dirt road, gravel path, old abandoned prison, that's where we--the master--holes up. You'll never find it on your own."
Sterling sighed and brought his hand back, empty. "Very well then, you'll just have to come with me." He hauled the thinner man to his feet, easily and shoved him forward towards the car he'd left behind, his hand not once loosening its grip on the other man's jacket.

Kali shifted." I'm a human so I'm not gonna eat you."
She pushed herself up and moved herself into the dim light so the boy could see her. Her red hair covered the parts of her face that were bleeding but her black eyes were kind.
"You should get away from the bars. They could come and easily grab you before I could get to you in my current state." She smiled though it showed a bit of her pain.
Emblem swallowed before stepping out of the shadows, her long white hair caressing her shoulders.
"Wait. I might know where that is." Her voice was emotionless as her shiny, emerald eyes watched Sterling.
"They have a friend of mine there too. I can get you there faster than your..machine." She said, only pausing for a moment so she could remember what her friend Kali had told her.
"Please. I fear they are both in danger and whatever's going to happen is going to happen very soon."

Hunter relaxed a little once the young lady identified herself as human. At her comment about being snatched, he quickly took a few steps towards her, away from the bars. It was then he saw her state.
"Are you okay? You look hurt," he offered, his young voice wavering. There wasn't a whole lot he could do; he didn't have any bandaids with him. He shivered; was the same thing going to happen to him?
Sterling spun, nearly losing his grip on his prisoner, when the woman suddenly addressed him. He kept the man between them, as if using him for a shield, though the man didn't seem to know or recognize this woman.
"Who are you? How would you get us there faster?" Sterling narrowed his eyes, suspicious, despite the pressing for time. But upon hearing that her own friend was taken, he relented a little.
"We can still take him, if your mode of transportation will allow for it. We might need some help negotiating past certain...barriers."
The man still in Sterling's grasp quaked.

Kali smiled slightly more.
"Don't worry. I'm used to it. Besides, their only doing this to me to get me to reveal some names." She moved so she could sit against the wall farthest away from the bars.
"Sit near me so I can get to you before they come and get you. I promise not to allow any harm to you." She looked at the bars and rubbed her arm.
Emblem blinked." Forgive me. I am Emblem." She bowed before straightening, the white shirt and light blue pants forming to her frame a bit loosely.
"I am an Angel, sent here to protect who I can." Her green eyes watched Sterling and nodded, agreeing about the Vampire coming along.
"As long as he cannot turn on us, I'm fine with that."

"Names? Why do they want their names?" Hunter frowned and carefully, warily, slid closer to the woman. He realized he didn't even have her name, but he hadn't given his either and given their current situation, he figured that was probably the least of his worries.
Confidently, he added: "My name's Hunter. Don't worry, my dad will find us, he's a champion finder. He'll get us out, vamps or no vamps."
Sterling blinked at the angel when she addressed herself as such. "I'm Sterling, Sterling Argentum. Vampire hunter and werewolf tracker." They couldn't have been a more unlikely duo--but he wasn't going to turn down help now of all times.
Sterling tightened his grip even more painfully on the man before him. "He won't have a chance to do so." The man whimpered, trying to look pleadingly at the angel for help. "Who's your friend that you're looking for? And why did they take them?"

"Because those people are the vamps enemies." She looked down at Hunter.
"Pleased to meet you, Hunter. My name's Kali." She smiled happily at the boy despite all the pain she was in.
"Your dad? I bet he's very brave."
"Her name is Kali. She knows the names of some very powerful enemies to the vampire race and she is a enemy herself." Emblem watched the vampire but turned her attention back to Sterling.
"We should go before they get any more hurt. I know Kali could survive the vampires and if she met your son, she would protect him from them as best as she could."

"Oh." Hunter couldn't help but brighten somewhat. "Then they're like my dad!"
He offered a small smile. "I like your name, Miss Kali." He shifted to snuggle up a little closer to her, the draughty cell making him colder than he should be.
And then at the mention of his dad, he smiled a little. "He's the bravest. He can take on vampires with no problem. And werewolves. And he's not afraid of anything." A soft sigh escaped his lips and he looked troubled again. "I'm nothing like him though. I'm afraid of everything." And he drew his knees up to his chest and wrapped his arms around them, looking lost and scared again.
Sterling nodded. "Very well then, since we know where they are--we should waste no time in finding them." The man who was quaking next to him had no chance to escape either, Sterling was making sure of that.
He looked at Emblem again briefly. "Assuming your friend is still alive and Hunter is with her," he added softly, lifting up a quick, silent prayer for his missing son. "Lead the way."

"I'm sure all that fear will turn into bravery soon." She leaned against the wall behind her.
"I would give you my jacket but," She looked over at the crumpled mess in the corner.
"It's soaked in blood." She smiled, feeling embarrassed.
Emblem touched Sterling's arm and the next instant, they were at a warehouse. She looked at the warehouse then looked at Sterling.
"Are you okay?"

Hunter looked up at her in surprise. "Your jacket?" he hadn't even noticed the heap of fabric in the cell. And then he scrunched up his face. "We made a first aid kit not so long ago--but I didn't bring it with me." Next time he wouldn't leave home without it.
He trailed off and looked away before coming back to himself with a start. "How-how long have you been here?"
---
Sterling blinked and then sucked in a breath as the world around him shifted suddenly. He looked back at Emblem. "What--what was that? Now where are we?"
He could see they were inside a building now. "Looks like we're inside a building." Could this be where Hunter and Kali were being held? He could only hope.

"About 5 days." She smiles kindly at Hunter.
"Don't worry. I won't let any harm come to you." She rubbed his arm softly. She perked up when she heard men talking, getting closer to them. Kali tensed slightly and pulled Hunter closer, ready to protect him.

"I flew here." She then scanned the area around then, searching through the darkness with her emerald eyes.

Hunter shivered and then looked up when he heard the sounds of people approaching. He didn't resist Kali's gentle pull to move him closer.
Sure enough at least one of the men Hunter recognized as they approached the bars of the cell. This man's dark eyes seemed to know exactly where to look to find his prisoners.
"Well, well, well, making friends are we?" He nodded to the two other men who accompanied him and they stepped forward, one with keys to unlock the cell. "Have we remembered those names yet?" he asked, eyes locked on Kali.
Sterling blinked. Right, he must have just glossed right over that. He shook his head. Stranger things had happened, right?
"A space beneath us?" He rummaged through his jacket and came up with a flashlight. Flicking it on, he made out the concrete floor beneath them. "Guess we better start looking for stairs or a hidden entrance." Under his breath he added: "Hang in there, Hunter."

Kali swallowed and shifted forward, pushing Hunter behind her just in case.
"I've already told you. I don't know what your talking about." Her eyes were stubborn, revealing she was hard to break. She winced as a scab broke open on her arm.

Emblem began to search quickly, knowing the urgency of the situation.
"It might be under a mat." She began searching through items on the floor.

The man standing at the front of the cell grinned humorlessly, revealing a glint of fangs. "We'll see if we can jog that memory of yours a little better."
The two men entered the cell and made a pass for Hunter--who yelped and clung to Kali for steadiness. He didn't want to be taken by these guys! They scared him.
----
Sterling growled and began working his way methodically along the walls, tapping here and there. After a moment the sound beneath his hand changed an iota.
"I think I got something," he called to Emblem, trying to figure out the approximately door-sized hollow echo that resounded. "You got anything that can punch through concrete. I somehow doubt a water gun is gonna cut it. Or an arrow."

Kali immediately put her arms protectively behind her. She stood up, shaking from the pain.
"Touch him and I will kill you." She growled, her arms still behind her to protect Hunter. Despite all the pain and blood loss, she could still stand which was a good thing to her. She glanced at the two that made a pass, her eyes burning with anger.
---
"There are some rods here." She picked one up and held it out.
"This is our best chance to getting through the wall to find them." Emblem looked at if she was ready to kill anything that stood in the way of finding her freind.

Hunter cowered behind Kali, his form trembling in fear. But Kali seemed to be able to protect him. He thought. Until the man outside the cage laughed.
"You might have been a match for them before, but as you are now..." The two men swooped in. One aiming for Kali, the other for Hunter.
Sterling grinned and picked up another rod. Hefting it in his hands he nodded. "Now we're talking."
He tapped the end of the rod against the space where the false wall was and then in a powerful stroke, much like a baseball bat, slammed it into the wall. The plaster crumbled, but a good portion remained. It would take a few more solid hits to make enough space to get through it.

Kali reacted faster. She turned and crouched, her arms going around Hunter protectively. Her body tensed, ready for any damage they gave her.
"It's alright." She whispered to Hunter.
"I'm not letting you go."
---
Emblem peeled away the plaster and looked around inside.
"I think there is a trapdoor." She beat the last part of the wall down and cleared the rubble, looking around for traps.

Hunter balled up as small as he could go--resorting to his usual method of avoiding danger. Be small and insignificant and impossible to reach. He could only hope that help was coming as he tried not to cry out of fear. As the two men tried to get closer to pry Emblem off of Hunter. They seized her arms, trying to force her to let go.
The plaster came down easily enough, forming a small hidden room that was the size of a walk-in closet. The rubble made it hard to see the cracks in the floor--assuming there were any.
Sterling shone his flashlight down and around, illuminating the dust that had been stirred up. And with it, some faint outlines of footprints.
"What about over there?" he called, gesturing with the light beam to where the faint footsteps led--and vanished.
