I've recently been doing a lot of thinking on one of my favorite characters, Sethalith. The half-demon/half-devils story has change quite a bit since when he was first created on a D&D sheet. Over the past month I've redone his whole back ground, breaking it down then reconstructing it. I can't say I regret that choice either, but what I do regret doing is asking myself one question (and in my opinion answering it too well, or rather too detailed); Why is he evil?
This question I answered with a page of typing and made that connection I had with Seth even stronger. The story I came up with for my character makes me feel like I can't play the character correctly, or effectively, if I officially post it on his character page. And on top of this feeling I also feel like I don't want to rp with him as I fear him meeting his end, much like every villain does.
Here is what I had written:
When Seth was still a young man he had lived in an elven society, in his years of growing up there he was never fully excepted by the others. except by one, a female elf named Solana. She had long black hair and bright green eyes. As he grew older he realised that he loved her, but that's not all he noticed. Each time he saw her she had bruises, which she blamed one her own clumsiness. Seth knew this to be a lie though, he knew the cause of her bruises were because her father didn't want her around a half-breed. One day though her father went to far, when they next met Solana had a cut down her arm. Seth went and killed her abusive father of his love. He spent the rest of the day with her, his last day with her. When the guard came he went willingly hoping to not make things worse for her in the city. Getting hanged for this, his love watched him "die". Seth had asked her not to watch, but she did anyways. Every one thought he would die, hell even he did. however, when he would have died he appeared in a chaotic world of the plane of portals ( having disappeared in a cloud of smoke every one assumed he was dead). Seth had tried going back to her, but when he finally got back to her he found that Solana had killed the ones who had hanged him. In the end she was hanged as well. Seth arrived soon after her hanging and took her from the tree and buried her below it, upon the tree he carved:
'Here, beneath this tree, lies:
my love,
my care,
my mercy.
My Solana.'
After burying her he sat below the tree and wept. Eventually one of the villagers passed by and, upon seeing him alive, ran for the village. Seth chased after the man, the whole while he swore that he was innocent and every one else wanted her dead as they thought her influenced by him. After killing the man Seths assault on the city began.
Adding this to his character story kind of changes him from pure evil to evil with good intents, after the initial rage he calms and it turns to more of a trying to get her back kind of thing rather then a god complex and a search for "pointless" power. This change I can see making it so he is a more "sway-able" character and making him more susceptible to manipulation.";

Hello?
Oooh, I like it. I suppose the question would be, if you want to keep him alive a little bit longer, what sorts of methods are there for bringing his love back? Is it a spell or a magical object he must acquire? Maybe convincing a certain elusive person to help him? What would happen if he fails? What about if he succeeds?
Just some questions to get the ideas rolling...

Well the original goal i have been trying to accomplish with him has been to get the Heart of The Abyss, a crystal that lays in the center of the sea of blood below the blood rifts in the abyss. Any one who posses the heart controls the infinite layers of the abyss, but any one with the Heart is compelled to destroy the astral sea (another plane of existence). Asmodeus the ruler of hell in forgotten realms D&D has a shard of the heart and with it and his pre-existing power created Hell and its nine layers. Once seth has the Heart he plans to take over hell as well as the abyss and then connect them by creating a plane between the two. After that, as souls are a currency in hell and the abyss, he hopes to find her soul there. if not then im pretty sure seth would storm heaven once he stopped the wars between the demons and devils.
Ooooh that's awesome! I can see how and why people would want to stop him then.
*ponders*
Perhaps if you needed a twist, he kills off an important character's significant other and then tries to convince them to help him get the crystal instead of fighting him? Likewise he could just be making promises to bring back other people as well if people help him...
