Good idea, honestly.

I actually haven't seen shrek in a while... That's sad. It was a good movie.

It's a cute show in my opinion. I wanted nothing to do with it at first, but one episode led to another. I blame Ross though, a bribe went wrong. What's your excuse?

I have none except I was on YouTube and I was bored, so I watched one of the people I'm subscribed to do a commentary on one of the lasted episodes but I couldn't hear the show itself, so one thing led to another.

It's like crack cocaine- you get one taste and you want more e.e

The show isn't for everyone, but it has some funny moments and the characters are pretty likable once you get into it. :) The fandom can be quite terrible though, but that's true for a lot of fandoms of shows. Annoying as the fans can be sometimes, they're generally harmless. I know Bonebag and Ross are pretty chill about it when talked to.

I didn't get to watch the original MLP show much (from way back in the mid-late eighties, around the time I was born) because they stopped airing it when I was still young. I remember bits and pieces, but it's hazy. :( That didn't stop me from collecting the toys though! I think there are still a bunch in my parents' attic somewhere.

I've actually been meaning to try and get my hands on the original show again. It has a very different feel to it than the new series though. XD

The expressions are funny. Pinkie pie reminds me of myself O.o

I have a couple of little ponies too... Not a lot, maybe four or five, but I know I have one of the original videos somewhere. I loved watching it when I was little.

Ponies are an abomination and should be scorched from the face of the planet. Bronies are holding back humanity as a whole and need to be purged.

I was in the same boat you are in currently and I ended up really liking it. I'm not as hardcore as some guys, and I don't really go around shoving it down everyone's throats, but I was just getting started when I first joined here. I had a season 2 Luna avatar, I think.

Honestly, its just like any other show and has good points and bad points. I don't really take it that seriously when I watch it, so for me its always nice to watch it, but if its not your cup of tea, that's totally fine, man. I a fairly hardcore brony, but I'm not touting it as gods gift to the earth or some [RADIO EDIT] like that. Its good for a fun watch, and has a really interesting community that has grown around it, especially the music.

rolled 10d100 and got 599
1000 gets me a title of RPRs official brony mascot.

The show needs no defense and admits none. Sometimes, a thing is popular simply because it is well-made.

However, the fandom - like all fandoms - is an atrocity visited upon us all by a wrathful deity.

*Sigh* I've never seen any of the shows... it seems like a concept right out of a five year old girl's show (Not to disparage anyone who enjoys the show of course but... talking magic ponies? My Little Pony? Even the fans have got to acknowledge that...)

I'm now actually tempted to pull up a couple of Youtube videos and see what all the fuss is about... will this be a mistake on my part? Hopefully I won't die from overexposure to sweetness and light...

Please explain why any of these are intrinsically bad.

I'm also unclear on what we're supposed to acknowledge, that sentence isn't semantically connected to anything else in the post.

I have to be honest that I had a similar mindset, but for me it was mostly "This isn't something I'm interested in, so I want nothing to do with it". Which is absolutely fine, everyone has stuff they're not interested in.

But once I got to watch it, it wasn't terrible. If you don't take it and yourself too seriously, it's enjoyable and even pretty funny. It's a show intended for children (I dislike saying it's for little girls because boys should be able to watch & play with pony toys just like I got to play with race cars and legos!) but it has a lot of themes that still apply in daily adult life, which also makes it something we can relate to as well.

In short, if it's not for you, then it isn't. But it's not comparable to Dora the Explorer. The label 'kids show' is pretty irrelevant. I still enjoy watching cartoons that I watched when I was 8, so why not watch a new cartoon that came out when I was in my 20's? :)
For a show that is targeted for young children [mostly girls] ages 3 to 10, it has a lot in it that older viewers would enjoy. A lot of references and little jokes about things that are not usually intended for children. Parodies if you will and that makes it amusing.
