She followed behind him. Even if he scared her, she knew that he didn't mean to, and he was also strong, so she didn't want to be too far behind him.
"I-I didn't think we were friends at all..." she said sheepishly, "I don't have any friends... I'm too afraid of everyone..." she admitted. Her ears were drooping and her head was low. So far, she wasn't displaying any signs of confidence, much less ability to fight simply due to her state of mind.

Chaos frowned. "You don't have to be afraid of me! I wouldn't hurt you. I don't hurt people unless I need to!" He smiled at her reassuringly. "I don't have any friends here either. All of my friends kinda went away..." He glanced at the ground, his ears drooping.

He sat there for a moment before glancing up, trying to be cheerful again. "Anyway, let's finish this dungeon so we can start a Rescue and Explorer Team!" Chaos grabbed the door handle and pulled on it. "Don't worry," he grunted as he pulled the heavy door open, "Electric and Grass types are easy. We'll get the treasure in no time. Who knows? Maybe we'll see a shortcut or something."

"Water and grass," she corrected him and stuck close, "I-I guess we can be friends... Promise you won't yell? Or... Pounce on me?"

Chaos tilted his head to the side before grinning sheepishly. "Right, that's what I said; Fire and Grass!" He teased before walking in the door, making sure Sasha stuck close. He stopped when she mentioned being his friend, though.

"You... Y-You mean it? You'll really be my friend?" He could have exploded from excitement had he been a Voltorb. "I'll try not to be too rowdy!" He said, cheerfully.

Instinct dictated a hug, but prior experience said to just smile and then move on. Chaos picked the latter option- Reluctantly.

"So let's look for this treasure. I wonder how many floors there are?"

She was relieved that he didn't approach her and she felt a little bit more confident for some reason. Now she actualy helped Chaos to fight, even if it was from as far away as possible and she picked up as many items as possible.

They finally reached the end, but nothing was there. Just a room similar to the end of the last test.
"Alright. You have one more test to go," Lucas's voice called, "Are you ready?"

Chaos was bewildered. "Hey! You said there'd be treasure!" This was disappointing. He sighed, and then looked at Sasha for a visual cue. "Um... Are you ready, Sasha?"

"It was a test. Just to see which you would choose," Lucas explained.

"Yes..." she nodded nervously.
"Alright. It's very simple: get to the end. Then you will have to make a choice."

Chaos huffed. "Well, I was expecting treasure."

But Sasha seemed okay with it, and Lucas was already moving on with instructions.

He sighed. "Alright. We've been pretty much just doing that anyways." The door, with some effort, was opened again.

"Alright, Sasha! Let's go!"

She nodded and scampered after him. She didn't fight at all this time and only helped him by retrieving items.
When they finally reached the end, Sasha's eyes went wide at what she saw. On the left side of the room was a group of mightyena surrounding an espeon. On the right side was another Pokemon, who was pinned under some smaller rocks and there was a larger rock balanced precariously over it's head.
"You only can save one of them. Who do you choose? You have 30 seconds until both are killed," Lucas' voice called.
Sasha remained fixated and unable to move no matter what, one of these "pokémon" would die, and she could not handle the pressure. She began to sob quietly, her whole body shaking.

Chaos' eyes widened as he realized the decision ahead of him.

This wasn't fair. Rescue Teams didn't have missions that required 30 seconds to complete. If they did, they would all be failed.

He sighed and took two seconds to think:

Okay, Sasha's not going to want to help this time, which means I'm on my own. If I can run fast enough, I can hit the stone above the pinned Pokémon under the rocks with an Iron Tail, at least removing the imminent danger. Then I can Volt Tackle one of the Mightyena, causing their attention to divert to me and attack. Sasha can help the other one while I help protect Espeon, and then we can get out of here!

"Okay, Sasha! I'm gonna save them both- Watch."

And with that, he executed his routine: Having already used Agility a few moments ago, the strong-willed Pikachu ran at high speeds, jumping up and slamming his now-Iron Tail into the stone above the pokemon's head: Hopefully smashing it into a million pieces. Using the momentum he had built up from the run, jump, and smash, he pushed himself off and jumped at the Mightyena, using Thunder to electrocute one, causing the electricity to run its course between them. He landed in the middle of the circle and grabbed the Espeon, dragging it along as best as he could to safety between the Mightyena.

The zorua remained frozen in place, her mouth closed in a firm line and her eyes wide with terror.

The stone didn't break, but it got launched into the wall. The mightyena were also in fact distracted by Chaos' attacks and turned to him with a growl.

Chaos was still surrounded by the Mightyena who he began to realize weren't just dolls. Oops.

Sasha still decided not to help him. He was okay with that- She was scared and she'd learn to be more brave as time went on anyways. Even so, he called out to her. Maybe a little nudge was all she needed?

"Sasha! You can help by getting the other Pokémon to safety! I'll handle the Mightyena!"

Chaos sent another Thunder at the Mightyena, hoping they'd back off and let him go or faint. He hoped his high level was enough to do some heavy damage, although he wasn't sure.

His already high Spd. stat combined with his Agility hopefully helped him make up for the dragging Espeon doll.

Unfortunately, Sasha had completely gone into shock. She didn't seem to hear or see anything. She just stood there paralyzed, unable to handle stress like that.

The thunder attack scared off the mightyena, leaving Chaos, Sasha and the two dolls.
"Excellent job," Lucas called and entered from above, "You have completed the challenges. I'll take you back up to the common room," he picked one of them up in each of his mouth hands and took them back.

Once they returned, Sasha collapsed and started silently crying. She dragged herself to a corner of the room and just curled up.

Chaos looked over at Sasha: Was she okay?

Before he realized what was happening, he was being picked up by the Hydreigon and brought back to the main room.

He was set down soon enough, and looked around at everybody. Did he do a good job? Then he noticed Sasha dragging herself over in the corner and crying. Oh no!

He ran over to the corner, and- keeping his distance, he tentatively asked her if she was okay.

"Sasha? What's wrong?"

Sasha shook her head and couldn't even form words. She stood though, and walked towards him then cuddled against Chaos' chest

After all the pairs were done, the three faction leaders appeared and began to call out names of whoever would work in their faction.
Chaos was the first name to be called, by Lucas. Soon, a majority of the other Pokemon were called up, but Sasha's name was never called. When everything was said and done, she walked out with her head hung low, tail between her legs and ears flat against her head.

Chaos sat down, hoping to cheer her up while they waited for everyone else to go through their tests. When she cuddled up to him, he looked down, a bit confused, but immediately got the idea. He put his small paws around her in a hug. "I'm sorry if you got scared. Don't worry, you'll get better."

When Chaos' name was called, he did a little fist pump. "Yess! I made it!" He smiled down at Sasha. "I think I need to go up now."

Name after name was called, and Chaos kept expecting Sasha to be part of the faction, but she never was. That was frustrating- He looked up at Lucas with his arms crossed. "Hey! Why didn't you call Sasha's name? She helped me out with items and stuff!"

"Items is not important," Lucas' middle head countered with a cool, yet apologetic tone. "You saw how she reacted. Her mind could not take the strain of of being in such a dire situation. Imagine if those were real Pokemon. They would be dead," Lucas explained, "Whether she was with you it not, her paralysis in the face of danger or any kind of tough decision could prove fatal. So, unless you can prove me wrong, she cannot join."

Chaos rolled his eyes and groaned.

"Of course she's going to react that way when you put her in front of such crazy dire circumstances! Rescue Teams have ranks for a reason! Unranked Rescue Teams start small, Bronze go bigger, etc. She's not even a very high level and you're having her face multiple Mightyena at once, having her lift gigantic boulders, and having her fight high leveled pokemon!"

He crossed his arms. This wasn't fair. "You're not giving her a chance to grow. It's not fair to expect her to be a high level when she's just starting."

Chaos' determined gaze met with Lucas' middle head's calm one.

"But we can't predict everything that happens. Whether or not you're a low rank, anything could happen. I don't think she can even look at blood without getting paralyzed, and you'd be surprised at how much there is. Pokemon are picking sides with the legendaries, and they are killing each other."

Chaos huffed. "You're telling me that high-level legendaries are just going to be hanging around small-time dungeons? What're they gonna do, command an army of Weedles?"

Chaos just shook his head. "You should have at least given her a chance."
