In a small cave behind a waterfall, a small girl laid curled up her eyes closed and deep in a peaceful sleep. She would appear dead if it was not for the small breaths that made her fragile figure rise and fall. The cave was tranquil due to the rushing of water just outside, and the soft sound of the birds chirping. The woman that guided her and brought her to the waterfall a few days before, and had led her out only to find food or water. The woman had not shown up that day, leaving Karissa to a much needed sleep for the day.
Nearby, a very strange fox was walking around. Her two tails swayed aimlessly behind her and there were two large wings folded against her back. As she walked under the trees, her fur changed color; while in the sun, it was canary yellow, but every time she walked into shade of the trees it became a little bit more greenish-blue.
The vulpine creature, a carbuncle, suddenly froze and she tilted her head up to sniff the air and her long ears pricked forwards. She had just caught the scent of a human, and a little one too. What could such a frail thing be doing out here in the woods so far from other humans? Marina began following the scent and it didn't take too long for her to spot the waterfall and she jumped through it todo d the girl in the little alcove behind it.
Marina didn't want to wake the poor thing, so she just plopped herself down and waited for her to wake up.

Karissa shifted, her senses kicking in but sill groggy from waking up. Her eyes fluttered open and she shifted to see the strange creature by her, looking at her. While other people may have been startled by this, Karissa just stared up at the creature in wonder and curiosity. She shifted to a sitting postition to get a better look at her. She sat there observing her, saying nothing.
Marina just stared into Karissa's eyes with her pink ones before smiling widely, "Hiya!" she greeted and got onto all fours and walked in a circle around her, "My name is Marina~ I'm a carbuncle," she introduced herself.
"Carbuncle...?" Karissa echoed, her eyes not wandering from Marina. Her head twisted as she watched Marina walk circles around her.
She sat down in front of Karissa and smiled a canine grin, "What's your name, little one?" she asked. The strange vixen's tone was cheery and soft, generally something little kids found comfort in.
Karissa pointed a small finger at herself. "Karissa...?" It was more of a question than an answer, being that she had no understanding of language in the first place
Marina nodded, "Oh. That's a nice name," she said and licked Karissa's cheek lightly, "Do you have any friends or family?"
"Family..." The word sound familiar to Karissa, but she shook her head, rubbing the place that Marina had licked.
"Oh... Okay..." she nodded and rubbed up against her affectionately. "Is anyone taking care of you?"
Karissa giggled at the affection, then thought about the question. She pulled out the words that she did understand. 'taking care' and 'you' being the only words she knew, she thought of the woman. Not knowing how to explain it to her in words, she took a rock and started to draw with it on the cave floor. The drawing came out as a poorly drawn picture of a lady in a dress.
Marina understood, "Do you know where she is?"
Karissa shrugged, then looked up at Marina's ears. she reached up and lightly took one of them, rubbing the soft fur in between her figure's.
