I'm looking to do an RP set in a pivotal period in the history of one of my settings. The War of the Exile Returned, also called the War of Reclamation or the Restoration War.

Before I go into specifics for characters I'll just set the scene for it.

Three hundred years ago the Great War ended. For centuries the civilisations of the West; the Republic of Alshai, the Kingdom of Vaden, the Realm of Eiloras and the Kingdom of Gilara had waged war upon each other. Though the 'Great War' was more of a series of conflicts separated by periods of relative peace it was still one of the bloodiest periods for the Western Kingdoms.

The island nation of Gilara, inhabited by warlike humanoid wolves, crushed the Republic of Alshai after a drawn-out campaign and then sent its ships, disguised under the colours of Vaden and Eiloras, to harry the shipping of the two southern states. Eiloras and Vaden shared borders and had long been hated foes. The fake privateers were all the excuse they needed to reignite their many wars, the Seventh Vaden/Eiloras War, the Pirate War, ended in Eiloran victory and Vaden was finally destroyed.

Gilara took its chance and annihilated Eiloras bringing the entire West under its dominion. After consolidating their hold the Gilarans turned their sights eastward to the only safe land route through to the East... the ancient Kingdom of Terelian. Unlike the humans of Alshai, Vaden and Eiloras, Terelian was home to a race of ageless felines, the Children of Terel or Terelains, who laid claim to the title of the Last Elder Race. Their kingdom was surrounded by an impassable mountain range, the Renala Mountains, and the only passages lay at the cardinal points of the compass each protected by an unassailable fortress-city.

For decades the Gilarans hurled themselves against Der'Morlain, Guardian of the West, but to no avail. The ancient magic woven into the very foundations of the city held strong and the Terelains defended this unassailable bastion with terrible ferocity. It seemed as if the Gilaran expansion east would grind to a halt against the walls of Der'Morlain... until betrayal.

No one now remembers the exact sequence of events that conspired to allow the city to fall. All we know is that the gates of Der'Morlain were breached, and many suspect that they were opened by a traitor in the garrison's midst. Whatever the truth, the Gilarans poured into the city and the defenders were forced to retreat to the last bastion of the city. The Citadel of the Dying Sun. For days the defenders stood firm against the invaders, desperate to buy time for the civilian populace to evacuate and for word to be sent to the capital. In the end the famed Jeria Eagles regiment elected to remain behind in the legendary Last Stand of the Eagles to allow the rest of the garrison to flee.

Der'Morlain fell and with it the Kingdom was lost. The Gilarans poured into the unprepared heart of the kingdom. for the first time in twenty thousand years or more the cities of the Terelains lay threatened. The Terelains fought a desperate rearguard action, trying to save what little they could. Eventually the Royal Army made its last stand at Oberoth, the ancient and beloved capital of the Kingdom the most ancient city in the world. The final battle would come to be called the Burning of Oberoth and it signalled the end of the Kingdom. The Gilarans broke the Royal Army and the both soldiers and civilians scattered.

The Terelain Diaspora began. Terelains fled north into the wilds of the forests and south into the timeless sands of the desert and others east to seek refuge in the Free Kingdoms in what would be called The Long March. Those who remained behind were slaughtered or enslaved. The Kingdom of Gilara cast aside its old name and declared itself the Great and Bountiful Empire of Eternal Gilloria. For three hundred years the Gillorians have ruled the West and Terelian. Their expansion into the East is prevented only by the fortress-city of Adriand that remains grimly defiant, the last vestige of a once-great civilisation.

Some Terelains did not feel safe even in the Free Kingdoms and continued their eastwards flight to the shore of the sea, eventually taking ship across the ocean in search of a new land, a place of sanctuary. These Terelains vanished from the known lands, never to be heard of again and thus were called the Lost Ones.

But the Lost Ones did not perish as so many believed, they found their fabled new land and slowly rebuilt, replenishing their numbers. It is now, three hundred years after they were driven from their homeland, that they seek to return across the sea to smite Gilloria and reclaim the land of their ancestors.

The RP would begin in the opening days of the War of the Exile Returned. The vengeful Lost Ones have returned bent on reclaiming their kingdom. The scattered enclaves of Terelain survivors are flocking to their banner for they are led by Nathaniel the Exile, son of the King and rightful heir to the throne. The slaves within the Gillorian Empire itself are growing restless and it appears as if an open revolt will soon ignite and the Gillorians are not above finishing what they began so long ago and exterminating the Terelain slaves.

However, things are not quite as black and white as they appear. The Terelains are vengeful, wrathful, and they plan on repaying genocide with genocide. Just as the Gillorians slaughtered them and drove them into the sea then so too shall the Gillorians be broken. The Terelains are putting any Gillorian they find to the sword - soldiers or civilian, man, woman or child. The Gillorians may have enslaved the Terelains, but they also brought peace, prosperity and stability to the West in the same vein as the Roman empire. The Terelains are also harsh with any others who resist them. The Eastern Kingdoms must either ally themselves with the returning Lost Ones or face their ire.

Hundreds of thousands of people are being caught in the crossfire as three centuries of peace are shattered under genocidal warfare. There is no such thing as neutrality, everyone must pick a side. But which side? The vast empire that brought peace and stability to half a continent at the price of a vicious war and the annihilation of an ancient culture, or the returning refugees bent on reclaiming their sacred homelands and freeing their people from slavery - even if the price is the utter annihilation of any who dare stand in their way?

Anybody interested?

Despite being an outsider (not Terelian), I'd be interested...

There's humans, the wolf-like Gillorians and the reptilian Isthenir who all get caught up in the fighting. It's not a sci-fi tech level though, since this is set prior to the Fourth Era when the Terelains re-start technological civilisation on their planet. Assuming this doesn't turn into an AU and they get annihilated.
